I was born on Oahu but was trapped in a wildfire in California over twenty years ago . In a split second the entire mountain blew up and I am going 80 plus on the road. I got out of there but our rental car was an oven. I thank GoD I can tell you this. I am crying right now as I type. I love Lahaina and the rest of my state and the rest of my country.

Californians know it very well too. From the Camp fire to the fires in Malibu, it doesn't end with the fires. When the rains come, the mudslides happen. Which also did some damage in Montecito.

First thing I thought of upon hearing this was Australia a few years ago. Actually forgetting about the wild fires from Alberta a few years ago as well as the ones that have been going on over the last few months this year here in Canada. And the ones that happen in California too. My heart goes out to all of those affected and I wish that I could just hug the world til its fires stop burning and save all of the people, animals and plants and set everything right again. Hearing Billy speak of this overwhelming devastation in Maui was overwhelming. However its times like this when people come together and the human spirit is truly amazing. Yet what if we all came together like this everyday and helped each other, and did acts of kindness all the time and not just during a disaster. Wouldn't that truly make the world a better place for us all? Once again my heart goes out to anyone experiencing loss to due fire, flood, war, famine, hurricanes, volcanoes, mudslides, accidents, or illness. Please know that you are not alone and that there is always someone thinking of you, even if they can't be there with you.

I worked as a wildland firefighter for 15 years in Idaho, Montana, the Dakotas, and Wyoming, including Yellowstone park, and altho I've seen fires with 200 foot flame lengths and many hundreds of thousands of acres burned, I've never seen such devastation as this, with such a horrific loss of life and livelihood. My thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by this tragedy. And may this serve as a reminder to all of us, to do good to those we cross paths with everyday while we have the opportunity, as life is so fragile.

And these people, like the rest of their racist democrat puppets, hate your guts if you`re not the right shade of the rainbow. Ask southwest Louisiana about the hurricane aid Biden never sent. When I got my stimulus the first thing on my mind was hurricane preps like enough solar power for small fans, simple cooking, a dorm fridge and freezer, the cheapest backup gas generator sold, a tiny air conditioner it could power, water filters, and very sensitive radios. But I saw New Orleans after Ida. It was all about "racism" and blame games again. Nobody could even charge a phone and I saw NO BATTERY POWERED FANS! But that`s WHOSE FAULT again??? MINE? After all that free cash and unemployment? There were people getting unemployment with scrap yard receipts for 5 bucks worth of aluminum cans! Where did it go?

Julian? Nah. I don't know him. We got Subs to take care of to wage war with China.
And, for all you over there in Hawaï: Only Australia is able to understand your loss.
Nowhere else on this globe has there ever been such a devastating fire, you see.
And now on a more serious note:
The people who are actually people and act like people all understand your loss.
Doesn't matter if they live in Alaska, China, Timbuktu.
      They all understand your loss.

The more first-hand stories I hear, the more horrifying it gets.
I listened to a story about a man with an 8-month pregnant girlfriend. They and their neighbors had stayed home through the day because it was believed it would be like in the past; the wildfires wouldn't be able to jump the width of the highway into the town. At 5:45 PM he took his scooter toward the highway to take a look. He discovered the fire had indeed made the jump and entire neighborhoods were being engulfed in less than five minutes each. He raced back, grabbed his wallet, passports, threw a few things into the car and told his girlfriend they had to escape that moment.
But the neighbors they had spent the day with told them that trying to leave via a car was foolish. They explained the only way out of town was to go North along Front Street, because officials had closed off the highway for many burning power poles had fallen and were strewn on it, (I tell you this so you can find Front St. and follow it on Google Maps) but Front Street was bumper to bumper of stalled traffic so if that method of escape was attempted, you would be stuck with cars blocking you on all sides as the flames engulfed you.
The man thought about it and realized this: the fire was coming. The only thing between them and the fire was a few blocks comprised of wooden houses. And the fire itself was made of other wooden houses. In other words the only thing between him and the fire was basically lots of fuel for that fire. He turned to his girlfriend and said, "We can't stay, we have to try."
So imagine being that young woman. Your neighbors, good friends whom you trust, have just said that being trapped in a car on Front Street guaranteed death. And the man whom you imagined having a family with says the fire is coming, and there is nothing that can stop it, it may be there within seconds, so you need to escape that moment.
So what do you do? Whom do you trust your life with?
She trusted him. And one of the neighbors trusted him also. They raced to the car, tossed out the infant-seat they intended on using when the baby came, jumped in, and drove off. The boyfriend crashed through a gate at the back of the neighborhood, took back streets and alleys to bypass Front Street and escaped through flaming neighborhoods like in a Hollywood movie.
Their neighborhood is gone now of course, reduced to ashes, and they have no idea what happened to their neighbors. As of Saturday night, officials had gone through just 3% of the town and have already found 89 bodies.
And the fire did come to the north end of Front Street. It is impassable, jammed with burnt-out cars.

It is heartbreaking to see the damage and the devastated lives who survived and the tragic loss of lives who were not able to get away in time. The tragic story of the family of 3 who were cornered by the flames and were found burned alive was truly horrific. I cannot imagine ! Lord, have mercy upon this great tragedy. Thank you for the donations and the prayers that are going toward this horrific disaster.

Devastating. Heart wrenching and so painful to even hear. We experienced this during the Camp Fire in Paradise, CA. All of my family ancestry and history is from that town, and my heart burned with it. Paradise CA is still not recovered. It’s completely different and no one I know who lived there in the past 59 years lives there now. The whole island will be affected by this for years from homelessness to outrageous home prices across the state and devastating pollution from burnt cars and toxic ground water. Prepare to inundated by massive government operations for years.
Our prayers and thoughts are with all of you.

    Reported from a whistleblower::
"What your not hearing from our local government
I just got out of a meeting where I was informed by someone in the Mayors office about developments that are being kept from the public. I am not a conspiracy theorist and I don’t want to make trouble but here’s what I’ve heard.
The amount of fatalities is expected to be more than 500 but less than 1000.
Many of the fatalities will be children who were at home because they canceled school. Parents worked and were not there to evacuate the children. Kids had no idea they needed to leave and by the time they noticed their homes or apartments were on fire, it was too late.
The government is worried about how we will react when we learn that the fire department left the fire earlier in the day and claimed it was 100% contained knowing that the winds were expected to be 70mph by the afternoon. This is against all fire control protocols. The fire department should not have left the original fire unattended. They are scared that the public calls for accountability will be more than they can control and protests and riots will occur.
They plan to lock down Lahaina for several months. It will take months to clean up the hazardous and environmental contamination. They won’t have enough housing for
    All the displaced.
There were 2,000 unaccounted for this morning. They have a list where they are trying to keep track. They found 700 today. But there are still 1300 missing.
They are very worried that the community is going to freak out when they find out how not a single fire truck responded to the fires. The emergency sirens were not activated (hurricane sirens) and loss of life could have been kept down by better emergency management which utterly failed.
I’m not trying to make waves or stir up problems but I was so angry and sad when I found out how many children are dead that I knew I had to post this and let everyone know what I have learned.
It’s time for our officials to stand up, tell the truth, and face the music. They failed Lāhainā guys. Our government is full of incompetent nepotism. The fire chief is the son of the former fire chief. We need to hold officials accountable for the mistakes they made.
Please don’t hate the messenger. I’m just relaying what I learned today."
God bless Maui and Lahaina! Pray for all the victims.

@WookieStomper808 Thank you for sharing this -you have a lot of integrity ! My thoughts and well wishes are with everyone in pain and desperation...I really wonder about the true cause and ask myself whether we'll ever find out....In Europe(Spain ,Greece, Sicily,Korsika,Sardinia etc.)there have been raging, devastating fires all summer long already also with strong gusts of wind that have destroyed very large areas of land with houses but hardly any calamities...This was so vehement like nothing to compare with.🦧Aloha nur loa🏵

Is it not strange that on July 17 (just 22 days before fires broke out), they had just granted the Hawaii Governor powers to suspend housing laws for rebuilding in the event of an emergency? Now people of Lahaina are following up with their homeowners insurance and meeting roadblocks about zoning laws having changed, as a result of these laws being amended, so they cannot rebuild! Coincidence?
    These are crimes against humanity!

The terror of this situation had to be unimaginable. The fire moved so quickly that even if people were able to get out of their homes, they either ended up stuck on the one road out of town as the fire engulfed them or they had to jump in the ocean which was hazardous because of the hurricane hundreds of miles offshore. It's like the classic tale of Scylla and Charybdis. You can be certain, though, that the people of Maui will rebuild. Lahaina will not be the same, as many of its historical and cultural markers have been destroyed, but as a resident of the state, I can tell you that the people in Hawaii are fiercely resilient. Broken, but not beyond repair.

The state’s vaunted integrated outdoor siren warning system is the largest in the world, with about 400 alarms but (not even One) was not activated during the fires. WHY?
