This was the 80s, this show had good prizes for the time even the money was great. Mind you I know a guy who won a speedboat and I am not joking it sat in a car park in Allershaw place (In Gowkthrapple) for years, untouched and unused. He couldn't sell the thing either - not because of rules, because nobody wanted it and it was costly to move to people would buy it.
So sadly it sat and rusted away.

The star prize was usually a caravan or a boat - the people that won the boat invariably lived nowhere near a body of water big enough to sail it on - the municipal swimming pool or the boating lake in the town park were too small!
The prizes on gameshows in the 70s were fairly cheap usually carriage clocks or Timex watches - the biggest cash prize rarely exceeded £1,000 and the “star prize” was usually a foreign car (the budget wouldn’t run to a British one) - over time, the budget has increased - but most of today’s gameshows tend to give away cash!

Rewatching these again on Challenge each weekday evening (and Sunday mornings). You often see the non dart player get a good score, and the dart player absolutely blow it. Even though some of these episodes are close to 40 years ago, it still leaves you feeling sick. More often than not too, it's a 'Holiday of a lifetime' type prize, just to rub salt into the wounds! (though my favorite gamble win was the two guys who won a Vauxhall Nova and then told Jim that neither of them could drive!) The nostalgia value of the old pros like Cliff Lazarenko, Bobby George, Maureen Flowers, Bristow and Lowe etc is good fun. Plus the prize board is like a sociological study in and of itself. You can see how certain things like Microwaves, stereos, TVs and computers became more and more common. Plus it's always a thrill when you see a prize that you actually had in the old days. My dad had the Chinon 35mm camera that's been a prize a few times. The big old Ferguson TV my nan and grandad had, my Commodore 64 and even the Nicam stereo Goodmans VHS (with flip down front control panel) my dad had. I also saw the identical JVC video camera that Marty McFly had in Back to the Future!

@@klawlor3659 I was born in 89, and I started smoking around 04/05. I can remember paying well under a fiver for twenty Lambert and Butler back then. A bit later around 2006 I could get in to the indie disco in Derby on a Wednesday for a pound, and I could get a pint of cider (I know I know, the folly of youth) for £1.50. Even on the more expensive nights, £2.50 was the going rate for a pint. My late grandmother would give me £30 for a night out, and there was always enough left for a kebab. 2006 think on, not exactly the dim and distant past.
Above all, it's food that gets me. Certain items just make my brain explode. Literally the whole point of Heinz macaroni cheese in a tin is it's dirty comfort food, and affordable.
