DIY Double Bladed Lightsaber Hilt (Darth Maul Star Wars Lightsaber)

- A little cardboard, craft foam, and silver paint can get you a lightsaber hilt fit for a Sith.
I had a couple requests for a Darth Maul style lightsaber from Isaac and The Prop Kid, so I put together this little DIY tutorial for the hilt. This tutorial is just for the hilt; I didn't put any blades on it because they're easier to carry around cons when they're just hilts. But if you want blades on yours, you can leave the ends of your cardboard tube open, and glue your blades in there. The cardboard tube I used came from a roll of parchment paper, making it a little thinner than the standard wrapping paper roll size, but a wrapping roll would still work fine too. It'd just be a little thicker.
MATERIALS USED:
1 Parchment paper tube (or something similar: paper towel roll, wrapping paper roll, etc.)
1 sheet of 3mm craft foam (amzn.to/2DH7K2y)
Scrap pieces of 5mm craft foam
Scissors
Hot glue gun
Awl or xacto knife for gouging
Scrap pieces of cardstock
4 Seed Beads (amzn.to/2JOQw5T)
White school glue (amzn.to/2DGICJe)
Foam brush (amzn.to/2nlY9rb)
Chrome silver paint (amzn.to/2IadGGY)
Red paint (I used Country Red: amzn.to/2DvCnI5)
Black Metallic paint (amzn.to/2BFGYJQ)
Duraclear Gloss Varnish (amzn.to/2vAnTY7)
Paintbrush
Hope you enjoy this video. If you have any questions or requests for future tutorials, feel free to leave me a comment below. I post a new cosplay tutorial every Thursday and a new crafting tutorial every other Monday, so check back next week for more DIY goodness.

Thanks so much 😊
This is an AMAZING diy!!!! I needed a quick and easy to do hilt for my cosplay and i'm so thankful I found this!!
You're the best time i looking for someone who has done the lightsaber of Darth Maul and only saw images and you did thanks for your videos will follow from a long time ago a greeting from Puerto Rico
Hello in Puerto Rico. Glad you enjoyed it 😊
This was very detailed and insightful completely helpful IF you want it as a display piece the only thing i would change to make an active duel blade saber is cardboard piping to pvc and the immiters i would cut out a hole of the sandwhich pieces to put the blades through other than that this tutorial was AAA+++ amazing i love your videos
Thanks 😊 Yup, definitely good tips for combat saber version and adding blades.
Have you tried doing Maul's clone wars light saber?
Nope, haven't tried that one. I thought he just had half of this one in the clone wars. Or does he get a different one later on?
The Woodland Elf Oh maybe I’m thinking of Rebels. He has kind of a cane like saber that has a scorpion edge on one side. Kind of like how it looks in Solo.
Oh ok, I know which one you mean then. I'll add it to my to-do list.
Just got the tutorial for Maul's Rebels lightsaber posted. Hope you enjoy it.
Love it good details on the saber.
Amazing! U should also make mauls second lightsaber from Star Wars rebels
Oooh, yeah, that'd be a fun one! I'll add it to my to-do list.
Just got a tutorial for Maul's Rebels saber posted. Hope you enjoy.
This looks GREAT
👏🏻 most impressive Now fulfil your destiny
Thanks for sharing this I loved it
Glad you enjoyed 😊
The Woodland Elf I have a little request it's a side request but can you make Geordi laforge's visor from TNG
Yup, already on my to-do list actually. I'll let you know when I get it posted.
The Woodland Elf ok you know what else you couldn't do but since you did your andorian is an andorian Imperial Guard uniform then you can do a Ushaan Tor and an Andorian phase riffle like on Enterprise
Yup, phaser rifle's already on my to-do list too. Ushaan Tor's a good idea. I'll add him to the list.
I think this is 100% screen accurate. 100/100. See?
Thanks 😊
how to make a temple gaurd light saber
Yup, I'll add a temple guard saber to my to-do list.
Just got a temple guard lightsaber tutorial posted. Hope you enjoy it.
Thank you so much for this, I was trying to do the whole thing with card board, the foam idea is much better. Do you find that the foam makes it feel really soft though?
No, I didn't find it makes it soft. Once you get those coats of glue over it, it hardens the foam up pretty good. I wouldn't squeeze it with a crushing grip of course, but with normal gripping it all feels pretty solid.
I I grab it hard would it break?
It will all depend on the strength of your glue. I accidentally dropped mine down 2 flights of stairs and the only thing that broke was a couple of the beads got knocked off, so I just glued them back on.
Now the inquisitar?
Yup, still on my list, just haven't gotten that far yet (it's a really long request list).
Pretty cool
Thanks 😊
The Woodland Elf You're welcome 😉

Is there any way I can message you privately? (sorry for spamming your video)
Yeah, my email is
Hello maybe in one video could you not use hot glue? If you do I would really appreciate it
Megatron 151 what will she use? Spit?!
You have to have a glue gun for DIY projects
Megatron 151 - Yup, I do have a few that don't use hot glue. (I don't think I used hot glue in any of my recent Black Panther videos), but honestly, even in the ones I do use hot glue in, you don't have to if you don't want to. You can substitue with E6000 or Power-tac, or anything tike that which will give a strong bond. I like hot using hot glue whenever I can because it doesn't have the fumes that other glues do, but that's just a personal preference. You can substitute if you're not a fan of hot glue.
Nice video. PD: I like your voice, you should do ASMR xD
Thanks 😊 Yeah, a lot of people have mentioned I've kinda got an ASMR voice in these. I record late at night, so I talk quietly, and it kinda becomes accidental ASMR.
So I just have to ask. How long did it take you to make this lightsaber? (Cause I started it today and I've honestly been working on it 4 hours now and I just finished putting the little end "sandwiches" on) xD
Well, I did it over a series of a couple days instead of all in one sitting, so it probably took me somewhere around 8 hours altogether. So break it up into a couple days, it makes it a lot easier.
Yay
Glad you enjoyed. 😊 I know you've been waiting for it for a while.
The Woodland Elf do you think you can make a robin costume from batman
Yup, that one's actually already on my to-do list. Have had a few other people request it too. I'll let you know when I get to it.
Thanks for making this

Thanks 😊
Make the whole costume since you have the lightsaber
I'll add him to my to-do list.
