My lovely wife recently purchased me a platinum yacht master as a wedding gift, wear it every day as an emergency room nurse. Very understated watch that not many people notice. Pure class!
This video convinced me to buy this watch back in 2017, blue dial and all. It is the best watch purchase that I have ever made. Absolutely no regrets. Thanks!
I can't understand how people compare the sub with ym. Submariner is only better on resale value. This watch in beautiful, pure class and good in low light condition. Great video and horological knowledge!
A few points to consider. The term "yachtmaster" comes from the license to handle boats. So you don't need to own a yacht to proudly wear this watch :-). You could just be a crew member, aspire to be one, or whatever, who cares. Who owns a race car and a Daytona? Who works in a submarine and wears a Sub? You get what I mean. It is marketed by Rolex as a toolwatch for regattas allowing to track elapsed time between buoys (you set the triangle of the bezel to the minute hand at the start of the race, count the time elapsed to reach the first buoy, reset by moving the bezel forward until the triangle is on the minute hand again, repeat the process at the following buoys). Being able to move the bezel forward is key as it's much quicker than moving it counter-clockwise as you would with a diver. Moreover, it's much smoother and quicker to operate than say a Sub. The bezel also helps before the start, it serves as a the countdown : by setting the triangle of the bezel on the red second hand and memorising the minutes to then add 10 min for the start (or whichever time on your particular race). A very comfy piece, considerably more elegant than the supercase Sub. A nice addition to a collection already containing divers as it complements them with a dressier and more luxurious option. Could definitely be your only watch.
I have the Rolex Yacht-Master Platinum 11662 to silver faced, it's gorgeous, especially in the sunlight. Currently have it on a rubber bright white strap. Looks amazing
Hey TGV - I just purchased this watch a few days ago, exact model. Was searching to see if anyone had done a decent video of the 116622 in blue dial, and came across your excellent review. I went into the AD set on a Submariner but after about an hour going over various models, including the 2016 rhodium dial version of the YM, I thought this was the all-in-one Rolex watch. Somewhat sporty but also dressy. The platinum bezel coupled with the blue of the dial is really spectacular. thanks for doing a video of this watch!
I had the privilege to try one, when I was in Switzerland last month. It was actually the first Rolex that I had on my wrist, and believe me, the feeling is otherworldly! Such a beautiful piece, hope I'll have a chance to own one in the future. :)
I've been dying for you to review this watch for nearly two years, as I own this watch myself. I've been trying to persuade others to consider this as an option to other sports models, but with limited success. I think the superb production quality of your video and your comments accurately portray what a stunning watch this is. I hope you can acquire this watch yourself one day, as it suits you incredibly well. Cheers TGV from a chilly UK!

I had asked him about this watch @ 7 months ago. this AD , offered me the blue dial. @ 2 weeks ago. Damn, I learn a ton from your intros. Speaking of Yachts my grandfather was a master carpenter. He single handedly crafted many cabinets, pieces of furniture, ect. Making works for yachts are different because you have to take in account the shape of the boat. After he passed we got to check out where he worked and damn the stuff he was working on was beautiful. P.s. He passed down a steel and gold black dial Daytona. Although I haven't seen it yet.
The classiest sports Rolex watch is the one that no one wants to admit is a sports watch: the Datejust. Gorgeous watch nonetheless, and your review does it justice. Thanks!
Yatchmaster is my favourite Rolex, I bought my YM on emotion, I did no research what so ever. What a stunning piece with luxury and understated elegance. The bezel is made in platinum including the raised numbers and the dial on my model is platinum . The blue dial is a true beauty but the silver colour platinum dial was a deal maker for me. Excellent review by the Governor General of TGV, thanks for bring this fairly unpopular Rolex to your channel. Rolex states that YM is the luxury version of the Submarina.
Platinum dial looks more timeless , elegant and precious and therefore my personal choice. YM on blue is stunning though but can't see the uniqueness on it compared to the platinum dial. The video is outstanding. Rolex should pay you for it!
Dead-on review of a modern Rolex masterpiece. I admired the platinum-faced YM for years, but found it too monotone and wished they would offer a deep-blue face both for better contrast as well as an appropriate seafaring look. By finally doing exactly that Rolex hit it out of the park, and I was finally was able to let go of my Sub and "upgrade". Both sporty and elegant in a very understated way, and the most comfortable of all their sports models. Just a brilliant, stunning design. I love it.
I like these watch more than Submariner. The size as you side perfect for smaller wrist. The new Sub case looks too chunky. Also I love thinner case. And of course it's more unique, you won't see a lot of these around, not like Subs everywhere.
The ultimate watch! It fits in every situation, whether casual or formal. It's a Rolex, it's well made, it's gorgeous, it's going to hold up well over the years, it's just got everything you want! A perfect watch!!
I was at a rolex store n have my heart lock into the rhodium ymaster. As soon as I got it on my wrist I got a weird feeling that the rhodium was lighter in person then on picture. I was disappointed. I still like it but not lov it enough to buy it. Now I'm planning on the blue dial. About to order one. I'm stil torn between them both and cant make a decision.
@@vule-nd5dm that is making me curious, as I have not seen one in person myself. Would you say the dial is the same color as a Rhodium dial on another Rolex, like say a Datejust?
I really cant remember if the rhodium on the ymaster look any different then like the datejust. I still might ending up with a rhodium. I wish the rhodium is not as light. I want a watch not too stand out and that rhodium looks just perfect. My wife didnt like as much. Ahw like the blue dial cause it has more contrast and pop.
@@LonnieLawless I was looking at the rhodium at first as well, but when I saw it in real it looked a bit too light grey. Also didn't like the light blue pointer as well. On the other hand the sundial blue with red pointer looked way better in real-life than picture.
I'm glad I found your review of the yacht Master. Ive been debating between the explore 2 and this watch as my first Rolex. You pretty much sum it up on why its tough to pass on the yacht Master.
Thanks for the great review.. A few quick points to consider. The dial colour is navy blue, not electric blue. You said the watch is made of rolesium, "a blend of steel and platinum". The two metals are not blended together, they are separate: steel case, platinum bezel (like rolesor being steel and gold, aka two-tones). Easyling is not a diver extension, it's only 5 mm and is meant for adjusting in summer when the wrist becomes slightly larger from the heat. A shame the dial is no longer platinum but blue brass. Unparalleled mirror polishing. The watch oozes class and elegance without overdoing it, almost understated . I think it suits you perfectly. I have no complaints about mine.
I’m a blue color lover and was debating between the datejust and the Batman. Now, as I’m always in sports wear, shorts and polos, I guess this Yacht Master is the one ideal piece for me.
TGV. This Yachtmaster fits you exquisitely. It's hugs your wrist so well, and in my option it does fit you better than your Sub. I feel as though it does feel lighter because it sits lower, or seems to at least. I feel like a Weather Blue Colareb with red stitching would looks superb! Great video TGV!
Stunning watch and nice review. Re the bracelet adjustment, this is the standard on the fly adjustment fitted to the new machined Rolex oyster bracelets. The Divers have a glide lock adjustment offering a greater range of adjustment. Which can be used in the same fashion. There is also another 3 position micro adjustment within the clasp. KRgds Colin
It's breath taking how stunning this watch is. Speechless. Actually it was in my top 3 only Rolex watches collection. It's elegant, sporty and DIFFERENT. Well, I'd still get the Sub first, but this would be the second one, no doubt. Thank you very much for this amazing surprise, nobody was expecting this! Best regards, Michele.
Great video, was not expecting the Yacht Master! Unbelievable watch. I'll have to add it to my Rolex wish list haha. Nice GF quote there TGV, very nice.
What a stunning piece! It really does fit you well too. I dream of the day I graduate university and finally have some disposable income to start my collection. For now, I have my Seiko Fives and your videos to keep me entertained.
Another awesome video. Your enthusiasm and videography was influential in my decision to purchase this model that was offered by my AD over the phone. Love the watch. It is nice to own something a bit more elegant than a Submariner that I am assured may be available to me some time this year. Cheers Steve.
Thanks for posting this Video. I'm not really a Rolex guy in general but I've been looking a nice Swiss with the type of blue dial that I like (lot of blues out there, most aren't right to my eye). This blue looked right and I like the idea of the platinum bezel. You helped convince me to take the plunge and purchase this model. Going to be my one and only Rolex.
me and frederico will get you on sea masters when you come over in the new year tristano, picked up my official OMEGA nato today and looks incredible. KR Jon
I'd love to have the rose gold Yatchmaster with the black face, bezel and strap. Gold is normally too blingy for me but the stealthy all black bezel tones it all down nicely.
Way classier than a submariner and a daytona the blue dial with the platinum bezel and the silver case and bracelet makes it a perfect combination. I can't afford that watch right now but i will definitely buy that watch in a near futur.
Well there is a new Rolex on my wish list. The Yacht-Master was never on my radar but it is now. That blue face is beyond words. Beautiful watch and another fantastic review! Thank you TGV... Cheers!
Why TGV!? This is so gorgeous and so expensive haha, I don't want to have it in the back of my mind for the rest of my life :P I had never considered this watch until seeing it here, but wow! That blue dial witht he red hand and that matte gloss contrast... Wow. 9K cad used.. Maybe some day. 50th birthday maybe? I might be able to get that kinda disposable income together in 20 year haha. I'll have to try one on, maybe it will be too big and I won't have to worry about it. Or I might have to skip the Explorer and keep saving.. we'll see.
What a fantastic intro! I feel rolex should pay you for that one haha, that was truly outstanding. I would associate a yacht with "status". Theres no reason, ever, to own a yacht or private jet. The ONLY reason to have one.... is because you can haha
Tudor is a great watch one of my favorite. I think among the dive watches the new TAGHeuer Aquaracer Caliber 500 deserves your review also! Best regards TGV, love your channel.
Okay, I have to admit I've never paid attention to this particular Rolex. But after watching your video this may be my favorite of the collection. Sporty and elegant too. Love the blue dial and the bezel. Oh, and it looks PERFECT on you! A blue croco strap would be nice look. DEFINITELY NO NATO for this one! Great review. Ciao, John
Stunning watch. Never considered either a YM or YM2 (YM2 is just too big for my wrist and I wish they hadn't put YM2 on the bezel), since I don't go sailing but everything just works in harmony here. I also like that it wears a little smaller than the new ceramic Subs/GMTII. Definitely will try it on next time I stop at an AD. Great review.
Hi TGV, I have to admit that it is a very admirable watch. The blue dial is stunning. It was a real pleasure to watch. Best regards, Claus P.S.: Is it possible your image stabiliser went nuts? I'm getting a little seasick lately when I watch your intros and outros at the table... ;)
Thanks, Freddy, I already knew that. My point is why would anyone think that speaking about price is bad manners, specially when you review watches and talk about watches for a living/hobby (not sure). BTW I'm not bashing The Urban Gentry, I enjoy the videos. I just think this channel should talk price, without worrying about offending anyone. Just my opinion.
In my opinion every single Rolex watch should have the engraved ROLEX in the inner ring. It's purely Rolex' thing and makes it so outstanding from the others.
Really? I'm a big Rolex fan, owned many over the years but yes, it is a welcome review, especially this model. IF you love this, your gonna LOVE what I have coming over the next few weeks ;-) Thank you Ricardo, Best regards, TGV
I mean was not expecting it today. I know you're a big Rolex fan, and I'm a little jealous of the Datejusts you owned in the past ahah :D Looking foward to it, and yes what a welcome review!
An upgrade to the common Submariner. Polished and TAPERED shoulders not killing the smooth transition from watch to bracelet, curved down lugs instead of that flat straight across back like the sub and GMT, thinner height so not too top heavy, Starburst navy blue dial, rounded sides instead of flat sides normally used on Rolex's dress watches as dores the Daytona. Only drawback is the platinum bezel. Looks great but will get destroyed with scratches over time. Not sure how they can polish those out.
Beautiful review of beautiful watch. This is my son's grail watch and size would be perfect for him . Love to see more higher end watch reviews on UG. BIG LIKE
Thank you Mike, as you know I cover all levels at an equal (numerical) amount and will continue to do so. So have no fear, much more is to come, MUCH MORE ;-) Best regards, TGV
TGV, can I just add a comment about the polished centre links. I've got the GMT Master IIC and it's a daily wearer. Had it since 2010 and the centre links are fine. You get the odd mark but they polish out so easily with the Cape Cod cloth. Tape off the matt links. On;y had to do this twice in 6 years. It's really not that bad.
Fair enough, I was frightfully OCD about it before, but funnily enough these days I don't really care anymore. But thank you for sharing that, if I ever get one again I will not worry so much ;-) Best regards, TGV
Awesome review like always tristano!! Thumbs for you and watch . Make a video of accuracy battles between watches and brands . That will cause a controversial stir ;)
T: the ceramic sub is to big for you despite sentimental value. Buck up, sell the sub and get the YM, adds uniqueness. Pair up with Fed, and discuss / debate this potential change!

I always enjoy watching the intro of your videos as well. Have a good weekend!
Thank you Shaun :D
Best regards,
TGV
Well there is a new Rolex on my wish list. The Yacht-Master was never on my radar but it is now. That blue face is beyond words. Beautiful watch and another fantastic review! Thank you TGV... Cheers!
Such a beautiful piece! Definitely No.1 Rolex for me! I just have to get one!
this piece is absolutely gorgeous. I have a weakness for blue dials. and this is the best I've seen so far.
Why TGV!? This is so gorgeous and so expensive haha, I don't want to have it in the back of my mind for the rest of my life :P
I had never considered this watch until seeing it here, but wow!
Or I might have to skip the Explorer and keep saving.. we'll see.
Love the dial color! 5 digits is a bit to spend on a single timepiece though
What a fantastic intro! I feel rolex should pay you for that one haha, that was truly outstanding.
I would associate a yacht with "status". Theres no reason, ever, to own a yacht or private jet. The ONLY reason to have one.... is because you can haha
The intro was pretty great haha.
Tudor is a great watch one of my favorite. I think among the dive watches the new TAGHeuer Aquaracer Caliber 500 deserves your review also!
Best regards TGV, love your channel.
Damn nice watch. I would prefer a new YM over a new Sub Date anytime
Ciao, John
Which one do you personally prefer between this one in the video and the black rhodium with blue hand one?
So pretty, also one of my grail watches.
Thanks for reviewing it!
Great review! I love the dark rhodium version with blue accent second hand. Understated elegance
I often find Rolex style to be a little much, but that thing is stunning!
Awesome review TGV. Haven't seen many Yacht Master reviews, if any. Thanks.
I can hear and feel the internal struggle in your voice TGV, LOLz!
I'm with you, I really want one to!
LOL, thank you sir!
Best regards,
TGV
First thing I notice is the bezel. Reminds me of the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms GMT. Beautiful.
Thank you Jerry,
Best regards,
TGV
Stunning watch. Never considered either a YM or YM2 (YM2 is just too big for my wrist and I wish they hadn't put YM2 on the bezel), since I don't go sailing but everything just works in harmony here. I also like that it wears a little smaller than the new ceramic Subs/GMTII. Definitely will try it on next time I stop at an AD. Great review.
That microphone quality sounds glorious
Hi TGV,
I have to admit that it is a very admirable watch. The blue dial is stunning. It was a real pleasure to watch.
Best regards,
Claus
P.S.: Is it possible your image stabiliser went nuts? I'm getting a little seasick lately when I watch your intros and outros at the table... ;)
Thank you so much Claus, very much appreciated.
Best regards,
TGV
why is it vulgar to speak about price? It's a practical piece of information.
jorgech11 US $ 4000 to 7000 in basic models and 7000 to 9000 platinium models
Thanks, Freddy, I already knew that. My point is why would anyone think that speaking about price is bad manners, specially when you review watches and talk about watches for a living/hobby (not sure). BTW I'm not bashing The Urban Gentry, I enjoy the videos. I just think this channel should talk price, without worrying about offending anyone. Just my opinion.
excellent watch review TGV! in love with that YM... keep the good work, cheers!!
Thank you H :D
Best regards,
TGV
ahh nice to see a Rolex review in the hands of TGV again.
Thank you James :D
Best regards,
TGV
Really nice intro, the production quality of your videos is getting better by the video
I love this watch but I prefer it in solid 18 gold. With the white dial or the Ruby MOP dial.
Hi tgv great vid, this one short but sweet PERFECTION, ONWARDS AND UPWARDS your friend Ryan.
Totally! Thank you Ryan :D Have a great weekend my friend.
Best regards,
TGV
And you sir.
In my opinion every single Rolex watch should have the engraved ROLEX in the inner ring. It's purely Rolex' thing and makes it so outstanding from the others.
Didn't expect a Rolex review, what a surprise... Beautiful watch!
Great video Tristano
Really? I'm a big Rolex fan, owned many over the years but yes, it is a welcome review, especially this model. IF you love this, your gonna LOVE what I have coming over the next few weeks ;-)
Thank you Ricardo,
Best regards,
TGV
I mean was not expecting it today. I know you're a big Rolex fan, and I'm a little jealous of the Datejusts you owned in the past ahah :D
Looking foward to it, and yes what a welcome review!
So have no fear, much more is to come, MUCH MORE ;-)
Best regards,
TGV
What a watch, thanks for the great review, what is your opinion on AP, can we see audemars piguet review on your chanel?
TGV, can I just add a comment about the polished centre links. I've got the GMT Master IIC and it's a daily wearer. Had it since 2010 and the centre links are fine. You get the odd mark but they polish out so easily with the Cape Cod cloth. Tape off the matt links. On;y had to do this twice in 6 years. It's really not that bad.
Fair enough, I was frightfully OCD about it before, but funnily enough these days I don't really care anymore.
But thank you for sharing that, if I ever get one again I will not worry so much ;-)
Best regards,
TGV
Wow, that is fantastic looking! Maybe this should be a new grail of mine...
How much is this watch?
It's around $10-$12k
Awesome review like always tristano!! Thumbs for you and watch . Make a video of accuracy battles between watches and brands . That will cause a controversial stir ;)
Your friend has quite the fantastic little "yachty" lol! He has a great watch and even better taste! Thanks for the review as always T!
Best,
Matt.
Thank you Matt :D
Very kind, hope you are well.
Best regards,
TGV
I owned one of the plat dial ones. If the scratches on the bracelet hurt the plat bezel is a horrible scratch magnet.
T: the ceramic sub is to big for you despite sentimental value. Buck up, sell the sub and get the YM, adds uniqueness. Pair up with Fed, and discuss / debate this potential change!
