    There is a steel plate on the pavement, covered with a grey carpet. In the corner of the plate, there is a rod sticking out. Into this, the there is a steel platform, on which the performers sits. The steel tube which holds the platform runs up his left sleeve.

    • @siraparkin5268
      @siraparkin5268 2 года назад +3

      @@shedikari (Long message; there's a TLDR at the end if you're too lazy haha)
      I think it was just poorly worded. I think what this person may have meant is that this person is putting great effort into his work.
      Additionally, he contributes something to onlookers through entertainment. Panhandlers only take. They make you feel pity, or social obligation, and take your money. Many times, the stories are false, designed to make you feel more pity, and be more likely to give them money. They contribute nothing but negativity in the world.
      I would give money to someone I *knew* was honestly doing their best, and only asked for help when they truly needed it. But aside from that... Maybe I'm too jaded to believe that every panhandler in every place has these terrible, terrible circumstances they claim. I'm sure there are some, clearly, but in the modern world, how can one know whether they are feeding a family, or some lazy guy who doesn't want to get a job? Or worse yet, feeding someone's meth addiction? I'll gladly buy someone food. Not just giving random beggars cash because they asked for money.
      Meanwhile, I would gladly donate money to someone showing off their talents, or doing dedicated acts like this for the public, like this man, or a street musician, street magician, a mime, a dancer, or whatever interesting talents or such they might have. I'd gladly support anyone who went around trying to offer to shine people's boots while he can't work, or carry your heavy luggage while you're in the airport because he's strong, but can't find a real job. I'd gladly buy sculptures made from scavenged garbage or simple art supplies, if I found it interesting; and without even hesitating I'd definitely make a visit to someone offering warm hugs and asking for donations. Maybe several visits over the course of a month. Or I'd stop in wonder to listen to an old disabled man tell stories, whether from his childhood, or from pure fantasy, and gladly support this person as well.
      In all of these cases, the people are not just asking for your money and making you feel bad for not handing your cash over: they are doing something which makes you *want* to support them. They are giving us positivity. People like this contribute something critically important to society: joy, and wonder. Happiness. A brightening of our days, and a break from the repetitiveness of life. A panhandler simply takes handouts. But THIS is an honest living, even if he's unemployed or doesn't do anything others might call "productive".
      TL;DR: Perhaps, but this person is putting effort into earning money, rather than simply asking you for it. This man contributes to society through joy and wonder and happiness. Most panhandlers contribute only negativity; pity and guilt. There are countless ways to earn some level of money, even if you can't find work. Beggars don't *earn* anything.

    For those that still don't get it - there is a large base covered by the cloth on the ground, the metal rod you see is atached to this. At the top of the rod another rod goes up his sleeve and this in turn is attached to a seat which is INSIDE his clothes.

      Eh, It's a busy city. You have constant changeover and people don't concern themselves with what these 'weirdos' are doing. It Takes a special person to film it and post it on RUclips. But ultimately, almost everyone knows it's an illusion and people can't levitate. For the cost of a red sheet, you can conceal the kernel of the trick - which he did, because even this guy didn't get the footage. OR he did, but respects the craft and hustle so edited it out.

    I saw this in Brisbane and realised immediately how it was done. People here are confused because the video doesn't show a key portion of the structure: the horizontal iron rod that fits into the top of the vertical pole also has an additional iron contraption hanging off the end of it with a horizontal seat structure on which he sits. He supports no weight with his arm: the iron rod provides full support, and the sleeve of his garment hides the iron rod. And the whole contraption doesn't overbalance because of the two-pronged pedestal he set up right at the start.

    Bagpipe man is all, man I learnt the fucking bagpipes, all you are doing is sitting on a weird chair! Levitating man is all, oh yeah like anyone could tell if you didn't really know how to play the bagpipes. Their eyes meet and they realize there's a connection. They go out for a drink after busking, one thing leads to another and they spend the night at bagpipe mans house. After several wonderful years bagpipe man finally gets the courage to get down on one knee and propose. Levitating man says yes. They have a beautiful wedding and move to a small house in the country. Then levitating man murders him because you should never trust a second rate busking magician.

    I liked the reveal to satisfy my curiosity. Still, I admire street performers because they expose themselves daily. I've always told myself that if I lost my job, then I would perform on the street instead of just begging. It's still working, only now with the creative arts.

    It's all about the centre of gravity. I went with the wife and youngest son and saw the same trick on the Copenhagen city street walk and I said to Josh "notice what is underneath him, how that carpet is covering up something square underneath, that will be a plate, and the weight support goes up his arm." We walked closer and as I passed I said to him quietly "nice illusion" and then motioned subtly, so as others would notice, to the top of the stick and said "the weight is all here" and he replied softly "of course" and showed appreciation that I didn't ruin the trick for him.

    • @glenngilsborg5647

      It's not about if you ruin the illusion or not it's the fact that this person you saw put more effort into that idea then most people do at a real job I'm not one for giving out money to panhandlers but I love people who put effort into making money

    The trick is this: behind his back he has an iron harness attached to a tube on the left side of his arm. All this system connected in turn with the vertical tube that is supported with a metal platform installed on the floor. This system allows you to lift your legs and hold yourself in the air for a few minutes. This is why the left arm has little mobility through the tube and the metal platform is covered with a carpet, but if it is done on the beach it is covered with sand. That's how easy and simple this "levitation" trick is.
