That was soothing and inspiring. You’ve very calmly injected real literary courage into my veins.
It’s time to pull the Sound and the Fury off my bookshelf and finally read it through.

I set out this year with a similar goal to try to elevate my reading. Moby Dick is fantastic with a sense of humor that surprised me because I never see anyone mention it.

I think it's one of those books that seems old and long and tedious so it's present in the pop culture consciousness but not enough to be discussed in book circles beyond "important novels of history" and college courses

Hemingway's most well known novels are absolutely worth the hype, in my opinion. For Whom the Bell Tolls is my personal favorite, but Farewell to Arms is also very, very good.
Grapes of Wrath is hands down one of the greatest novels of all time. If you read it and end up liking it, check out the french author Emile Zola. He's the king of naturalism (hardcore realism) in literature. Brutal books, but brilliant, and he's my favorite author of all time.
~If~ you're interested, I'd probably say start with 'Germinal.' It was so influential that it literally helped unionize the coal mines of France lol.
Hope you enjoy Hemingway and Steinbeck! I'm sure you will

I read both Germinal and The Debacle in undergrad! Like Zola a lot.

@@bloodfirejeff That's awesome! Even more looking forward to hearing your opinion on Grapes of Wrath, than. I feel like he's our American Zola haha.
