I just saw a book called "Never Whistle at Night" which is a collection of short stories by indigenous authors about a collective Native American belief about not whistling at night because it causes evil spirits to appear.
Sami (indigenous people in norway) beliefs say that you should never whistle (or do anything to get its attention) at the northern lights. If you do, the spirits in the northern lights will take you away.
Not me thinking I could put this on while trying to do things around my home. I was SO invested. Not only did the story really build suspense, but the animations were the cherry on top. Had my eyes glued to the screen. 😂 I definitely vote for more of these in the future!
I remember reading this story about a year ago and it terrified me. I thought listening to Kris read it would be less scary, but the animations and sound effects made it so much more terrifying 😭
This reminds me a lot of the stories of the Fey from Ireland. As long as you don't transgress against them their mere presence grants a bit of luck, but you slight them they will make your life so miserable that you would ask for it all to "end." There are tons of great myths and lore for the fey world that match the stories we chalk up as spooky or strange.
I love that this is in a modern setting, a suburb instead of a castle or the woods. I think that helps make it scary because it’s so close to where we are, like Halloween, it’s already here. Outside our door.
The whistler make me think of the unknown from dbd. Like how it mimic its victims voices and eliminates anything that sees it. Heck even leaving its victim in a weakened state. Idk but maybe this is where dbd got their inspiration from
At the end when kris said "I got chills" I immediately thought of the grease song and the fact she sang the next bit of the song, immediately made my day and made me happy. (Gotta love kris)
Kris is the perfect narrator for this kind of creepy story! It gave me chills, and I will definitely be closing my blinds all the way from now on at night.
This reminds me of the supernatural episode with the scarecrow and the town gives up two people every year and in return they have great crops. Ohhhh that's sooo creepy I love it!!!!! Great bedtime story
I also just thought of the Supernatural episode where Sam and Dean go to this town with a wishing fountain in a Chinese restaurant or something like that. I looked it up. The episode is called Wishful Thinking (S4 E8).
Those are true. Look at the Wicker Man in UK folklore. And Americans being clueless literally do the same with Burning Man but because they ignore and don't know folklore think it's harmless fun. It's not. These stories carry for a reason.
I was NOT expecting my anxiety to spike as much as it did with this story and the animation that went along with it. What a great video!!! I love these "storytimes" - hope we'll get more!

They said they find arrowheads so that means there was probably an indian burial ground around the neighborhood somewhere so it's probably a curse type of thing!!!
Everywhere in America is an Indian burial ground, we quite literally stole all of America from them. We didn’t move “cemeteries” when destroying populations aka lake lure in nc flooded out a predominant black town and sank the cemetery there too. The town is still under the water and catfish swim next to the cars still parked. The native burial ground trope is a myth and a racist stereotype, I mean this purely constructively please look into it on your own…
There are pagan gods who used to ask for human sacrifices & then would promise prosperity/luck/success ect… also a few other “gods” who would grant luck on conditions you never place your eyes upon XYZ. LOVING THESE!

But maybe it's something else! Also ; this was such a great story!!! I loved the format. Please consider doing more stories like this one!
We had an older lady dressed similar to pictures I’ve seen of old ladies dressed in Russian catholic dresses (almost like a nun). Around 6pm every night, we see he walking up our street, often crying. I know it was probably nothing more then what it was, but it was still a little creepy/unnerving/unsettling and a little heartbreaking as well. My friends all lived on the same block or the next one over, so we were always hanging out in front of the same two houses. We tried to say hi a number of times, but she’d never say anything other than “hello” in English or “Spasibog” which is like a “thank you” and “god bless you”. We never figured out where she lived or where/how far she walked, just that she’d come walking up the street with tears in her eyes.
