Excellent review! Honest and stimulating. I am interested in the evolution of contemporary art and this book seems to address part of the issue. I find today that higher end crafts are more "artistic" than the work of many contemporary "artists." There is a skill in the work of crafts that seems to have evaporated from contemporary art. Warhol, for example, despite all the adjectives thrown about him, was essentially a graphic artist with a great sense of timing and a publicist's ability to turn his production into "art." Full stop! The issue of Italian Fascism and art will always be disputed. Compared the the dreck created by "artists" in other fascist regimes, Italian Futurism managed to produce a hefty body of significant work. Compare this with the explosion of new forms of art that surrounded the Russian Revolution, until that freedom was smothered by Stalinism.
Great stuff Tom... and a trip down memory lane! My dissertation was 'The effect of Futurism on Fascism'. Mussolini loved Marinetti and his ideas on promotion (propoganda). Would you recco this book to a designer? ie. would I find the bits you found boring interesting?
Hi Dave, that sounds like a really interesting dissertation! I would recommend the first 25 pages to anyone, but honestly the book goes really down hill I don’t even think someone with a specific interest in design would think much of it. But that’s my opinion, some people love the book so I dunno… 🤷♂️
Thanks for the review! I was like "Oh? That sounds like an interesting argument, I think tha book is worth it", but then you went "This is the first 30 pages. The rest is just waffle" lmao I think I might still give the book a chance sometime, but it won't be at the top of my priorities list, I guess, haha!
Love learning through your perceptions and observations. 👏 Always provides a refreshing angle. Thank you!

Bruno Munari a fascist? This is a provocation just to catch more views and comments. Hustler moves…
It’s not in the thumbnail or the title. Nor did I even specifically say that. So how can it be clickbait?
