- All E46 cabriolet owners are afraid of soft-top failing and i got my first issue as well. Couldnt really got much information from internet and decided to troubleshoot by myself, gave a easiest shot try replacing / refilling hydraulic fluid. Adding fluid is not enough but you also have to do one more thing!
Thank you very much. Got e88 same issue going to fill fluid today and having issues with lid not closing fully. Will clean the bolt. Thank you so much....
Thank you so much. Issue with e88 roof closing slowly. Changing oil today at the old oil is grey in colour. Will refill with roof down as it's supposed to give an accurate reading and will clean the bolts too. Thank you very much🙏

It seems like there was no oil leak then where the hell oil went?
And do you think that cleaning the bolt or just removing it from the bottle the system bleeded by itself?

Removing the second bolt definitely bleeded it for transferring out. Cant really speak about loss of hydrolic, where it went off and how. Ive been having days opening/closing even twice, all running okay for now. 🤞🤞
Man i really wish this will fix the issue for me. I have very similar issue. Mine stops before the top folds down to the back. So the soft top is half folded and thr back latch is all the way open. How is your converitble after a month of posting this video?
Thank god no issue. I think your problem is with some cables. Read something before.

For me it closes as if it fully closes except it sounds like it’s not fully finishing which causes it not to close automatically.
Did you change the fluid first and clean bolts after or cleaned bolts first then changed fluid
@@Umer-v3o first add the fluid, last checking the bolt and removing air from the system.
@@ibrasgarage will remove bolt automaticaly remove air from system dont have to do anything spiecial

Do you know what hydraulic oil you bought? BMW only sell in 250ml bottles that cost £30 each. Non of the car parts shops know what it is
I will take a picture for you. I dont remember RN. You dont actually need a lot of it. 250ml would be enough but 30 bucks is pricy for that cheap oil and its purpose.
So the hydraulic oil showed up, i swapped it out but it hasnt solved the issue. The roof is getting stuck because the lock isnt releasing that holds the roof down when its stowed away. As soon as you let go of the button it releases the lock. But you cant do it without turning the car off and on again. Weird
@@darrenlomax1283 is there second bolt which will eventually transfer out the hydrolic? When you turn of the car, the system stops itself and lets off everything. Its the same for me.
So how can I solve it?
When the roof cover opens (and gets stuck), if somebody holds it up and I power cycle the engine I can get the roof to fully open or fully close, but I need someone to hold it.
It sounds like air is trapped in the hydraulic lines because there is a hiss when the car is turned off. I dont know how to bleed it off. Ive power cycled the roof about 10 times.
