I’m a vegetarian and that is my choice, but I 100% respect your choices too. If everyone who ate meat followed your practices there would be less meat raised in factory settings and more healthy animals and healthy families! Folk are far too ready to offer opinions based on sentiment and zero facts. Live well and happily and ignore the uniformed commenters.
    I love your channel

Something to consider, there are enough farms like this one that do not cause massive amounts of suffering to their animals, the animals live a good life and then have one bad moment of one day. Ideally they have their head in a bucket of a tasty snack and don’t see their death coming or feel a thing.
Now let’s contrast that with the fate of an animal in a soy field. First the ground is tilled, savaging any ground nesting animal including snakes, bunnies and other rodents, not to mention all the soil microbial life that is lost (not sure if vegans care about that very bottom of the food chain). Then you have to consider the habitat destruction brought about by the monocrop style of agriculture.
MAYBE you could feed yourself on a no till vegan farm, but show me the farm where I can buy that truly cruelty free food. Show me even one person eating solely from their vegan farm, I can find you a farm less than an hour from your house that is doing regenerative animal ag. It is that common. Imagine the environmental difference between global production and shipping vs driving down the road, for me the farm I go to is 15 minutes away and they don’t rely on heavy petrochemical input for fueling tractors or fertilizing.. they just move fences and let the animals do their thing. Can’t believe people think that is bad for the environment

At the end of the day, Sally is livestock. There's nothing wrong with liking the cow. But her destiny is to serve as food. The upkeep of a cow is very expensive UNLESS there's a payoff: milk, calves, and meat. Your animals are kept in clean, low stress, "free range" conditions. That is fantastic. If anyone is upset, I suggest they take on factory-farming by large corporations. Their methods include heavy hormone usage, confined spaces, and a list of other horrors. Don't abuse a humble farmer providing for his family. All the best.

    • @fairybits
      @fairybits 6 лет назад +7

Her destiny did not have to end that way. She is truly not food, but a sentient being as are humans. He could have let her go to a sanctuary. We humans are so arrogant towards animals believing that they are put on Earth for our consumption. Did it ever occur to you that 'WE TOO' are 'FOOD' for the reptilian rulers of this planet? Seems fair right?

"Well, let's talk about Sally ..." my little niece loves watching your channel. This is the first I have seen it as she insisted on me watching. Yes, it is a dilemma facing the harder things in life. No easy answers here but wanted you to know it is a teachable moment about the truths of life with no easy answers but choices to make. I reminded her that she loves her little hamburger sliders so these are the ways in which we clarify those difficult truths. She loves watching your family, the beautiful farm and wonderful postings. Bless you.

A lady from Canada has a RUclips channel (Ourhalfacrehomestead) and she and her husband had the audacity to butcher a goat and harvest the meat and make a video of it. What a firestorm resulted. One woman said she couldn't understand why anyone would kill an animal when they could just go to the grocery store and buy the meat. I wonder if she thought the animals in the store committed suicide, wrapped themselves in cellophane, and then jumped into the meat cooler. I would hazard a guess that she had never stepped foot on a farm because she obviously had no idea what she was talking about. Same thing with those who criticize your decision to get rid of Sally. If an animal has no usefulness, farmers do not normally keep that animal just because it is "cute". I love watching your videos and I totally agreed with what you said. "If what I am doing bothers you, don't watch my channel." PERIOD!

I agree absolutely. I treat my chickens and ducks well, some even have names, but when the day comes the selected ones are quietly caught in the dark before dawn and swiftly dispatched and prepared for cooking or freezing. This is why I raise them - to eat them... Some people raise their hands in horror, saying "Oh - you're so cruel!! How could you?" But these same people will eat a chicken raised in a barn where it sees no sunlight, then harshly thrown about, hung upside down by the legs on a conveyor, plunged headfirst into electrified water where if it's lucky it will be stunned, and then its' throat is slashed. Miserable, deformed, frightened animals do not make healthy eating... I raise my food, I slaughter and prepare my food, and I eat healthily, knowing exactly where my food came from, and that it lived and died in a gentle and respectful way.

Love the look of the farm as winter is fading and spring is finally upon you. So sad to see the demise of an animal but Sally has been a long-standing problem. You need to have a leader of the herd that you can work with. Farm work is never done but looking back on the accomplishments makes it worse it. Hopefully your arm is getting better. Using the two cows for food is part of homesteading whether you eat the meat or sell it, it's what's best for your family.

What more can you ask for when a man wants to look after his family.
It's obvious you look after your animals very well - no cruelty imposed on them at all.
Isn't it better to grow your own for the meat than expose your family to 'who-knows-what-kinda-meat-and-what's-in-it'.
You're definitely on the right path - thanks for another great video.

They are food! They are lovely, loving, they give us warm furs and then one day the point comes when they fulfill that purpose. Chickens are for meat and eggs, etc. thanks for showing this part of farm life. We live on a farm that went dormant after the 1950’s and are bringing it back to life. I think people get confused when you name an animal, and automatically assume it is a pet.
When we name cows we typically name them after their purpose. For example last year we had Chuck. Which was short for Chuck Beef. (She is in our freezer now) This year we have Frank. (Which is a short name for hotdog. Although we will not be turning him into hotdogs...) Primarily we use cattle to keep the pasture eaten down so that we don't have to burn diesel and bush hog it several times a year. But they are also food.

      Sharon Demond ,
Yes , " they " are most often known as liberals. But , as you can plainly see ,
there is nothing liberal about them. They are instead very controlling and want nothing more than to control all others. In that context , Lenin was a "liberal " , as were Hitler and Stalin . A couple of more "liberals " were Mao and Castro. In more recent history , Hillary Clinton wanted to be a controlling "liberal " also.
For myself , I am a conservative. I believe in living in a manner that satisfies me. While others live in a manner that satisfies them. It can also be called , live and let live . In the U.S. I am known as a Republican.
I have no idea of why so many in the general public want to have liberal tyrants in control of them ! As a Republican , I prefer to live in freedom.

Sally had an excellent life on your farm. You treat her and all your animals with kindness and respect.
Fanatics and extremists of any persuasion are dangerous and should be avoided, whether they are vegans, vegetarians, PETA, fundamentalists, or what have you. Most of it feels like a form of insanity to me. I'm not saying all vegans and vegetarians are fanatics, but many are hateful people. @Rahul Khanduri By what I've seen butcher shops are more humane than slaughterhouses they put the pig unconscious before killing it. Even in slaughterhouses this is supposed to be done but sometimes fails on cows I hear I guess cause they are larger. But not all slaughterhouses obey the rules.

    • @RinSupremacy

@Rahul Khanduri it's what these animals are raised for they give them months of a good life and then eat them allot of money goes into these animals. Just keeping the animals would hurt both the meat industry and farmers financially. Since they invest so much in these products. I've seen some very humane butchers and some non humane ones but if the butcher loves the animals they will make sure it's as painless and humane as can be.

I’m a vegetarian, I love your videos and I am grateful that you share so much of your lifestyle with us. The care you take for your animals gives them a good life, in stark contrast to the life of suffering provided by the modern meat industry. Our society is so out of touch with where our food actually comes from. Thank you for showing so many of us that it doesn’t have to be that way. I found your channel for the chainsaw videos, my parents recently bought a 25 acre wooded lot that needs some work to return it to a healthy forest, but I have learned so much more about a way of life from you. Thank you and keep it up!

You are such a reasonable man, Simeon. It's a real joy to watch how you handle things. ~ Also, the drone footage is absolutely beautiful. I find myself leaning a little at times as I watch, "dodging" trees, lol, but you have an excellent pilot (is that your brother... your wife?) so I really have no reason to worry.

butchering cows is one little aspect of this channel... why is it so bad to recieve opinions witch are different? Simion should be more hardened, i think.

    • @christinejjones3068
      @christinejjones3068 6 лет назад +2

opinions WHICH (not witch) are different are fine.. I believe that some people like to impose their beliefs on others - it appears to me that Simeon is speaking about people who want him to NOT butcher his animals... and he explains very clearly that his purpose for his homestead to raise animals for butchering and eating.... so for those who insist that everyone give up meat because they want all animals to live forever is arrogant at best... if they want to give up meat, then fine for them - I say go for it! For those of us who like meat, we should be able to eat it if we want.
I think for you to tell Simeon to be more hardened is to ask him to change who he is... I'm pretty sure that is not the problem... I will continue to support him and his family because they work hard - display good values, and virtuous qualities - and I hope to see them succeed.
Those people who don't like Simeon's life style do not have to watch his channel... easy solution for everyone - hopefully we can all find some happiness in that!

you are right! I support him for same reasons. Furthermore i wish him more placidness to handle those comments. In this sence i like him to "change" into a even better person. Maybe i should stop doing so. There you are, you have changed me ;)

I love your channel, love your farm, and love your beautiful family! I grew up on a large southern plantation in SW Georgia, USA. My Dad was a hired hand, or cowboy. I was so lucky, blessed to have such a beautiful childhood! We use to be so happy when a cow broke her leg so our freezer would be full of beef! On a farm everything, every creature has to pull its weight and be a contributor, you are, in my humble opinion, doing the right thing! Stick with it and continue to do what you love! God Bless!

I agree you give your animals the best possible lives you can, a whole lot better life than cattle get that are processed and who's meat is sold in our grocery stores. As for 'non' meat eaters I always want to ask them have they eaten jello, or marshmellows or gummy bear candies lately... and suggest they look up what 'gelatin' actually is. lol please keep up your wonderful life and thank you for allowing us to tag along.

Hi, I love your attitude, it is so real. I appreciate how well you treat your animals, it is heartwarming. Dont worry about the people who are negative. Its funny how deep in our ancestry we were only meat eaters, if you didnt hunt and catch meat, you went hungry. There was no option for fussy people who just wanted vegetable matter as they used to wander and make camp, hunt and eat. How life has changed.

Keeping It Dutch Vegans are giving vegans a bad name. I'm vegan, for health reasons. I have no problem woth farming, grew up on a farm amd even slaughtered lambs and chickens for dinner or family feast. I get so much back lash when I ask for no meat or food not mixed with animal products. Just because vegans overdo everything. Have actually given up my vegan diet and gotten a lot worse health-wise just not to be attacked by friends, family and the general public. Recently started again. Will just not eat outside of my home.

Passing on my thoughts. You should wear a mask when moving chicken dirt or their waste. I inhaled the dust & one day later I had to go to the ER as I could not breathe. I ended up having to take shots for two years+ for the allergies. At least take care of your son???

Diatomaceous earth, also known as D.E., diatomite, or kieselgur/kieselguhr, is a naturally occurring, soft, siliceous sedimentary rock that is easily crumbled into a fine white to off-white powder. Used to kill worms and bugs. If inhaled can cause severe breathing problems such as Pneumoconiosis.

Cattle for meat is fine in countries whr not much veg is available & the animal is killed instantly. But Halal meat is not ok. Halal is slowly bleeding the animal to death. It lasts anywhere between several minutes to even an hour. The animal cries piteously & struggles to stand till life ebbs out.. This is cruelty to the extreme. Shun halal meat. Your Religion does not demand you to eat this.
