AJ Ghent’s uniquely inspired Singing Guitar has its roots in the Sacred Steel musical style and African-American gospel traditions that developed out of a group of Pentecostal churches across the South. Ghent comes from a long line of innovative players, including his father, Aubrey Ghent Sr., and grandfather, Henry Nelson. His great uncle Willie Eason is credited as the founder of the Sacred Steel rhythmic guitar style.
Ghent invited John Bohlinger and the PG team to his soundcheck before his show at Nashville’s City Winery to talk through his rig and play some inspiring music on his lap and pedal steels.

I love this guys playing! I remember when I first heard him and thought, wow he can do that vocal thing like Derek trucks! then after going down the rabbit hole I now realize wow, Derek and AJ can do that vocal thing like AJ's Father Aubrey Ghent lol. There's some amazing videos of AJ crushing Purple Rain on youtube if anyone wants to hear some more of his playing!
Im loving all of this steel content the last couple of years! started playing pedal steel this past year and cont get enough!
Derek Trucks often times gives off a Sacred Steel vibe. Example, the song "Joyful Noise".
He owes alot to the sacred steel tradition, especially Aj's father..

Love all the rig rundowns regardless if I know the artist or not. I’ll throw out a vote for a rundown on Marty Stuart and the whole gang. Cuz’n Kenny has some cool guitars and old pricetons. You know Chris Scruggs has got some awesome gear. Heck even handsome harry has got the old timey snare thing. The cherry on top is of course Clarence.

Open E !!! That's how my grandfather played vestapol tuning I didn't understand that tuning when I was younger I get it now its great for slide love his playing and his tone is great!!
