    First Saint Etienne record I ever bought after it was reviewed on the revived Jukebox Jury in late 1990...Barbara Windsor voted it a hit! Great sleeve too! Got into The Field Mice because of this version too. Really loved what St.Et did in the 90's in particular

    Saw St Etienne at the Royal Festival Hall on my 30th birthday. Couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate what is, let's face it, a pretty depressing age to turn.

    Why did Moira Lambert quit the band? She had a beautiful voice?

    • @andrewdouglass1427
      @andrewdouglass1427 4 года назад +1

      From what I've read, there was no intention of a permanent vocalist. Moira is spectacular! Sarah was a stronger presence, and maybe that created her permanence? Not mine to answer. Moira moved to Canada, and as far as I know she's been living on Vancouver Island and doing voice work for years. I think she has a Wikipedia page.

      When I was a Design major at Uni in the early/mid-'90s here in the Pacific Northwestern US, I took it upon myself to introduce my fellow artsy 'mates to the joys of Saint Etienne, playing my CDs of their albums on the communal studio stereo.
      ±30 years ago really doesn't seem so long ago in my mind, but those memories of how amazing the future appeared to be, sharply contrast with how I have felt in the current millennium (and continue to in 2024) - when so much of what I once knew and cared for/about is gone forever.

    Never really made it to US.

    • @QuadMochaMatti
      @QuadMochaMatti 4 года назад +1

      Because many Americans are tone-deaf LCD simpletons, made that way over the course of many decades by the manipulative Svengalis of crapitalist American media. It's unfortunate, but true.

    • @QuadMochaMatti
      @QuadMochaMatti Месяц назад

      What are you on about? Of course they made it to the US. Maybe you were just in a lousy market without any quality commercial alternative or college radio stations? We certainly knew about St Etienne in 1991 in the Puget Sound region.

    Why did they use a different singer for Only Love on Foxbase?

    • @martinralph1985
      @martinralph1985 8 лет назад +1

      +Noodles37UK They originally intended to use different singers on each release, Moira Lambert, Donna Savage and then Sarah Cracknell. Sarah was still with them when they recorded the debut album, Foxbase Alpha and she just stayed with them.

    • @nathanjamesbaker
      @nathanjamesbaker 8 лет назад +2

      +Martin Ralph Is Donna Savage actually in this video? I read that for the video for "Only Love Can Break Your Heart," Moira Lambert refused to be in the video, so they did two different videos, each with a different woman lip-synching to her lines.
