It was great. Gets the HOF in 2015. Never went to a final four again

So much hope, so much promise, but in the end…to what end. He told this truth: He thought that ALL that was necessary to win was to recruit great players. The rules and the dynamics passed him by. The other dynamic-coaching-he ignored or maybe he couldn’t. He did prove that you can be in the Hall of Fame by being a great recruiter-but you can’t win championship “s” without adapting -> Coaching.

Just poppycock. Kentucky has possibly had some of the worst luck in the tourny out of any team in the last 20 years. If the tourney was more than a single elimination tourny, like every other serious basketball competition in the world, Cal would have won 5 championships in 15 years. This is the nature of college basketball, March Madness is manufactured unpredictablity. There are plenty of things I wish Cal did differently, but if it were any other coach he wouldnt have nearly had the chances that Cal has had, with the players we had. Its been a rough stretch since the Covid year, and players playing 6 years and whatnot, combined that with the rules changing for 5th year seniors to actually play, instead of you get 5 years to play 4. Cal has had to play against teams basically stacking the deck against his team with older players. NOW I know the casual Kentucky fan would be like, well why dont we do the same thing... because its gimmicky and doesnt work either, UConn, and Purdue both didnt really do that and are the best teams in the country right now, but I bet they are glad they didnt have to play against our team... We are more talented than either team, and if things went well, either one could take a loss, now they are playing against older teams that arent talented enough, big enough, or whatever to beat them really. You really cant have it both ways. It sucks we lost in the 1st round 2 out of the last 3 years, these things happen, happened to Coach K, Happened to John Wooden, happend to a ton of great hall of fame coaches. College Basketball isnt a science, and the media wants us to hate Calipari, wants us to be negative, wants us to tear our program down by getting rid of him. I promise you that. Go BBN.

We had no idea the high highs and the low lows we'd have under Cal. Needed to go, but doesn't mean it doesn't suck to see him miserable at Arkansas.
UK was his dream job. He just lost grip of the program along the way. Sucks.

You can tell Barnhart wasn’t too happy about it back then.

I believe that the fall from grace for Cal was a mixture of several things but at the top of that list was the falsehood of a lifetime contract. Pair that with nil, transfer portal, and laziness on the part of some of the kids coming in. Some of them have been told since middle school how great they were to the point where their ego’s are so high that they’re uncoachable. Think back to your youth. How much did you think you knew about literally everything at that age? Now mix that with nil money and the prospect of being a “professional” in a year. Big headed people make foolish decisions.
