  • Explore Outlier Dimensions here: bit.ly/CJOutlier - At Firewire we've long admired CJ Nelson's surfing because it's easy on the eyes, it's styled, and it's relaxing to see while somehow still inspiring us towards ripping.
    Cj's Outlier model is built in Thunderbolt Red because CJ likes the light and lively spring and responsiveness that Thunderbolt Red adds to his favorite midlenght hull shape.
    Most of his other models like the Haven, the Sprout and more are built in Thunderbolt Silver because it adds traditional weight to his most traditional shapes.

    I've ridden hulls almost my whole surfing life 48 years. Mostly Greg Liddle designs and a couple others, and I must say this looks like a very nice shape!

      @@patrickyoung2106 Hey bud just saw this, I primarily surf at a somewhat wally beach break and also occasionally some other very good reefs. It goes well in all of these areas and it is a great all around board. I am lucky to have about 40+ board quiver, but the outlier is never a bad choice

      @@twister4489 40+ is a good number! I had one made at home in South Africa (well using the CJ as a base - not 100% the same board) as we can't get 'em down here. 8'0" So far it goes amazing anywhere with a wall. Love the feeling, very different! Hoping to explore a bit more this winter when the right spots start working for this board.

    I wonder how this compares to Andreini's Vaquero? I love that board and it would be a dream to have one in new tech that's more responsive and durable. Andreini's hulls are supposed to be very user friendly. How does the outlier compare?

      There's some direct comparisons on a thread on jamboards. Just search Cj nelson outlier jamboards and you'll find it.

      I have a 7’6 and surf pretty hollow beach breaks with it. Got a good amount of hold and can almost go vertical with it and throw some spray. Thing flys and gets in early so you can set your line quick. Love mine

    I am on the fence between this board and the Harley mid 6. I mostly surf average beach breaks 2 to 6 foot. I always have ridden short boards and fish boards. Getting older and want to keep my stoke for surfing. Still in great shape but just want more waves and make it a little easier. Hate missing waves. As you know in so cal it's rare to get pumping lined up waves. Most days it's waist high and soft or closed out. Any helpful info would be appreciated.

      mid 6 is a bigger wave board. You use it when its pumping.

    Would that board work in average to underwhelming beach breaks?

    • @firewiresurfboards
      @firewiresurfboards  3 года назад +4

      Yes, for sure. just position yourself forward on the board above its wide point. This shape holds well in round waves with your weight back on the narrow tail, and it trims well in weak waves with your weight forward on its planing area. It's a very versatile single fin.

    What the riding difference between an 8'0 Outlier vs. 8'3 Parallax. What fin would you use for the 8'3 parallax? Mahalo

    • @firewiresurfboards
      @firewiresurfboards  2 года назад +3

      The fin for an 8'3 Parallax is a 9.5 Parallax fin by Flying Diamonds. The difference between the Outlier and Parallax is the kind of waves they're dialed for - the Outlier likes a round face with a throwing lip. The Parallax likes a flat face with a crumbling lip. You could envision an Outlier at Surf Ranch or Rincon, and a Parallax at San O or Malibu.
