This guy is spot on. I was involved with Toastmasters many years ago. I had a great time. A good social experience and I did become a more effective speaker (although, no false modesty, I was already good before I started). I'd say everything he said in the video was true of my experience, both pros, cons, and caveats. One point that cannot be overemphasised, is that every club is different. If you find one that doesn't feel right and isn't giving you a good experience, you can look for another. Go as a guest to at least 4 or 5 clubs in your area. Go back a second time to the ones that you liked. Add new ones to fill the spots you dropped. After experiencing several clubs a couple of times, pick one that is comfortable.
It is not often you can stand up, make a fool of yourself and get help for doing so! You will be among newcomers, and seasoned speakers. They will be delighted to share their knowledge and answer any questions. The best thing is you can attend a couple of meetings as a guest to get a feeling for whether it is for you.
Being a toastmaster i absolutely agree with all your points and your guidance through all your videos for an effective communication has been helping me a lot to improve myself day by day thanks for such a crystal clear explanations.

The last item killed the whole point of the video for me. Basically - "public speaking is pointless, since if people are interested in your message, they'll listen regardless of how you deliver it. And vice versa, if people are not interested, technicalities of public speaking don't matter". Thanks bruh.

You may have just chanced upon a club built by Indians for Indians. Just look around for other clubs. Certain clubs are built on the common traits of members (like the club with Indians) while many clubs are open to anyone. We have a club here that's mostly Chinese members. Honestly I don't think they even have any non-Chinese, but TI doesn't allow explicit restriction. It just implicitly happens because a non-Chinese may not feel comfortable being a member in a club with predominantly Chinese members. The Indian club could be a similar situation. But there are so many other clubs that aren't like that, and are open to anyone. My own club is like that, we have a wide mix of people. Our common trait is just the love for Toastmasters. Lol

If you aren't earning a lot, yes it can feel high. Also, they collect a one-time fee, and they collect 6 months in advance. These two things I wish they would do away with these, and make it a monthly recurring subscription instead. It could cost exactly the same, but feel way more affordable. The issue is they are still stuck in archaic financial systems and their upgrades are slow. (Do you know, you can still paper-mail your credit card info or check to Toastmasters International in a renewal form, and wait a few weeks for your membership to be renewed once they get their postal mail delivered? Yeah LOL...) Only just last year did they finally introduce the ability for members to pay online for themselves, which is very very late compared to other online services that had similar systems over a decade or two. Before this, they had to give the money to a club officer who then had to charge his/her own card for all the renewing members. They still don't have any recurring subscription option. Anyway Toastmasters is a great platform despite its pros and cons. I know TI is actively improving their services over time, so all these could potentially change in a few years.

Really?! Imho the speaker was brilliant and gave the most insightful treatise on Toastmasters(TI) I have ever heard. Accents come in all forms and TI has absolutely no program on affecting accents whatsoever. The absolute focus is on Communication, I repeat C-O-M-M-U-N-I-C-A-T-I-O-N and this presentor did an excellent job. As for you Mr Pearse, the kindest thing I can say about you is that you have your head so far up your backside it is coming out of your mouth. You should get therapy for your racist xenophobic attitude. Do you know how much damage you do lugging around this baggage through life? With a bit of luck no one pays any attention to what you say. But God help those who have any respect for you. You need to reflect deeply and meditate on your state of atitude and way of thinking. It is wrong, if I may bluntly tell you. But kudos for saying this out because it takes some boldness to say what you think. Misguided maybe ... but bold all the same and I have to thank you because it gives us a forum to challenge it which hopefully helps those who think the same but keep it to themselves.

No, the Indians did not create Toastmasters. It was founded in the USA by Ralph Smedley.

I think that stage movement and eye contact is important to make the speech more effective. But time and filler words are not that important.
