From personal experience, I'd say about 10% or more of the people I've known are impatient drivers or have a lead foot. That said, it would stand to reason that people who accelerate quickly and tend to exceed speed limits have issues with the CVT transmission sooner because their driving habits is rough on it.

He was talking about how the Nissan Pathfinder had CVT transmissions in 2005 to 2007 model years, but that's false. However, Nissan did start putting CVT transmissions in the 4th generation R52 Nissan Pathfinders starting with the 2013 year model vehicles. My guess is at the narrator got confused and was talking about one of the other Nissan crossovers that used these Jatco Xtronic CVT transmissions. Yes the Nissan pathfinders did eventually get those CVT transmissions. But not as early as the 2005 year models in the 3rd Gen Pathfinders. Just ensure, even though the dealers and manual will say the fluid is lifetime, still go ahead and change it every three years or so. Change the fluid and if you can, the filter as well and everything will be fine
The problem often came down to the cooler size or lack of size. The Maxima has a beefy cooling system for the CVT, while things like Versa, Sentra, Rogue and Altima do not have that advantage. While I wouldn't trust a Maxima to pull a trailer of any weight, it's fine under normal use and the CVT most likely (with specified maint) will never be an issue.
@@HighAltitudesCO well that was one of the problems. But not the only one. The ball bearings that the variating pulleys slide on are made of aluminum. And the pulleys themselves as well. So when the steel belt rubs against the pulleys, it causes scraping and scoring if the pulleys causing aluminum filings to fall and get carried around in the fluid causing other places to seize up in the transmission. Added to that, when torque is repeatedly hitting those small ball bearings that the pulleys slide on, they eventually deform and become flattened causing the pulleys to be unable to open or close which causes the belt to snap.

Here is my experience: I purchased a 2015 Nissan Murano new in July 2015. We had transmission issues starting week 1! Hesitation and then over acceleration were addressed with multiple software tweaks but never corrected the issue. My CVT transmission failed and was replaced under warranty by Nissan in June 2019 at 52,000 miles. Today 11-29-21, at 62,100 miles, my transmission failed again due to the transmission oil/cooler/radiator assembly failing to cause the cooling fluid and the transmission fluid to mix, resulting in having to replace the Transmission, Radiator, and associated assemblies for a cost to me of approximately $6,700! Based on my research, this is a known issue with Nissan CVTs but was only partially addressed in the Class Action lawsuit because individual owners had to personally sue Nissan and their vehicle models and years were the only ones included in the extended warranty. How a judge does not include all Nissan vehicles with the CVT is beyond me especially when my dealership was replacing three a week when my 2015 Murano's CVT was replaced. All my service was completed at the dealership and we never prevent any work from being done when required. The only upside is Nissan is paying for 80% of the repair but I am still paying out of pocket on something I believe should be fully covered. If I had an Altima with the same issue it would be covered under the class action suit extended warranty coverage but the same CVT with known issues in another Nissan model is not covered!
Same here Nissan denied my recall for the 2011 Nissan Cube CVT failed at 106,000 miles. The CVT was dealer serviced. However the 2010 Cube was covered all their CVT models have failure problems. Never again CVT or Nissan. The rebuilt cost me $3500 with only a 1 year or 12000 mile warranty. My son has 60,000 miles now on rebuilt CVT with two drain & refill service intervals at 30,000 miles each. Based on Nissan historical CVT failures life expectancy is 100,000 miles then junk it or sell it no more money wasted.
This seems to get-around the design defect: Keep 'em cool as many ways of reduced coolant/distilled water ratios, both filters and best cvt fluid each 30k, allow set overnight or allow 8 hours for full warm drain to obtain around 5.5 quarts if not flushing, seal all air leaks of radiator plenum (Time -consuming), keep radiators clean. I'm now 209k Mojave hard-and-hot conditions, full AC
@@Monza62000 Rogue and Qx50 seem like great designs. I run the CVT hard and fast, but no abusive type things, now about 233k. All seems to be in the tender maintenance care. I'm also using NMF and plenty of magnets at the pan as further prevention.
This is one of those things has been over perpetuated by the internet of the millions of transmissions that Nissan as put out there 1% fail prematurely the recommended interval to service is 30,000 miles you cannot drive it 100,000 miles and expected to keep working with no service would you leave the same oil in your engine for 100,000 miles ?
engine oil change intervals do not compare to trans. Engine oil gets dirty much faster. Many automatics do fine, long term, with 60k fluid changes, 80k, even 100k. However the nissan CVT is not one of these. They need maintenance every 20k, because its a shit design
@@Mach141it's not an automatic transmission it's a continuously variable transmission they have nothing in common as to how they work that's a apples to oranges comparison
(Sorry for the VERY long "comment". But I believe it NEEDS to be said) For it's a scoop you can take to the bank; and your check will NOT bounce! For in the late '40's; Chrysler wanted to build a transmission; that would have no gears. Rather: just two "variable" pulleys and a flexible steel belt; connecting the pulleys. So, "I made that my "term paper" in my senior class; in Fenger HS in Chicago (1950) Then Chrysler's engineers were told to design it. And they did; but after a long time they were NOT able to make it work; without problems. Finally, Chrysler abandoned it. And other auto manufacture's didn't want it either; because they were afraid of "Class Action lawsuits"; which can bankrupt a company; if it is widespread. Fast forward to 2000; When Nissan decided they COULD solve the problems. And IF they designed it right; they would have NO competition; and Nissan would make a fortune. Really! So they did it; but the engineers KNEW (and STILL know) it was going to have untold problems; even though they deny it. But the company forced them to do it. I suppose: they assumed they could deal with it. Yeah Right. If they only knew what was going to happen to them. For they are going down. And they damned sure deserved it! Criminals is what they are! I said all the above; to say this: It isn't just Nissan. Believe me. It is the damned CVT transmission. For it is simply NOT possible; to stop those constant problems. Only electric cars can be made (IN the future); that would make a car quiet and smooth; with NO gear or pulleys and belt in the transmission. Please do NOT buy one. They still have not made one; where the batteries are not incredibly high in cost. Like $8,000+ to replace. That is ridiculous and atrociously foolish. Finally, I bought one of those "beastly" Nissan Maxima's in 2007; and from day one to this day; it has been a "problem maker transmission". I am not the only one. There are millions that fight that damned CVT transmission. And Nissan can NOT and/or won't solve the problems; because they CAN'T. Nor will any other CVT car manufacture. Believe it or not and listen up: IT'S THE DADGUMMED "CVT" TRANSMISSION, "DUMMIES"! For it's as worthless as a dead earthworm; that has been rolled over all day long; on an "Interstate Highway!". End of Story, and I rest me case.
I have an Infiniti Qx60 2014 hybrid with 55k miles and the transmission started to act weird about ten months ago, but in February, it became dangerous; the transmission started stalling and on the highway, the engines just stops working periodically. When I reverse the car, it shakes and accelerates dangerously even though I'm not touching the gas pedal. Yesterday, I brought it to the local dealership, where I purchased it new in 2013, they said that the computer just needed a software update but then, today, they called to tell me that it would cost 15k CAD for a used CVT or 25k CAD for a new one. The worst is that they both come with a 1 year and 10k miles warranty. They know how bad their technology is and they don't want to admit.
Glad I never bought a Nissan with a CVT. 06 Altima with the old school automatic transmission and no issues yet at over 200K. Last car was 85 Nissan Pulsar with 3 speed automatic that ran to 275K before the transmission failed. Nissan of the 80s though is not the same Nissan now. Totally different company.
Nissan CVT Transmissions have been failing through out the model lines for several year models. Models like Altima, Versa, Sentra, Juke, Rogue, Pathfinder, Murano all have the same issues. Many develop a “shudder”, “Judder” or “vibration” as described by many owners and used car dealers. The Jilcat Proline CVT Supplement has stopped the shudder repeatedly all across the country for most of the applications it has been applied. There is a separate Torque Converter issue (Code P0074 or P0075) that is different from the shudder. It actually feels like a stall when you stop and the vehicle has issues at take off. This would require a flush process and refill with OEM fluid. We have found by adding 2 bottles of Jilcat CVT Supplement in with the fresh fluid we have cleared up that problem in many cases. There is NO GUARANTEE the Jilcat Product will work but in almost every attempt we have seen success.
How is the Nissan motor, any issues?
@crow_2k11beatsbydre8 Nissan's 3.5 l engine is bulletproof.
I'm now 209k Mojave hard-and-hot conditions, full AC
i just had the dealer do just what you did...my rouge 2018 at 30,000 miles ,,why i did not do it..nissan gave us a 7 year warranty on the cvt,,,
@@Monza62000 Rogue and Qx50 seem like great designs.
But I believe it NEEDS to be said)
For it's a scoop you can take to the bank; and your check will NOT bounce! For in the late '40's; Chrysler wanted to build a transmission; that would have no gears. Rather: just two "variable" pulleys and a flexible steel belt; connecting the pulleys. So, "I made that my "term paper" in my senior class; in Fenger HS in Chicago (1950)
Then Chrysler's engineers were told to design it.
Hi, may i know how about cvt gearbox inside almera2012? Is it has same problem or even worst?
Nissan is now owned by Renault (if that tells you anything).
Does Xtron CVT fails same as normal CVT?
It's very disappointing that somebody can buy a 20 year old car that works perfectly but new cars have issues with barely any miles.
What does the CVT error message look like
Nissan CVT Transmissions have been failing through out the model lines for several year models.
Try this before you spend $2000 or $3000 replacing the transmission. ruclips.net/video/mM-nkoWUfk0/видео.html

Hey guys any help on the 2022 Nissan Kick Sr CVT???
I had 3 Nissan Altima's with CVT's that all went past 100,000 without one problem. Just lucky I guess.
I had a 2011 Altima. 10 years and 160,000 km. No problem. Dodge Caravan had the transmission go in 50,000 km.
@@user-uu2rf8ev7z Step Daughter's 2017 Altima only has 64,000 miles and the tranny is bad.
Did you change the fluid….if so….how often?
Anything with a cvt do not purchase. It is 5 thousand plus to replace transmission. I know this first hand.
What did they do to the later rogues to change the CVT? How did it become more reliable?
It didn’t.
They’re less reliable actually
Nissan transmissions fail quickly and will leave you stranded. 2008 Sentra gone.
2013 Altima SV, 256k miles no cvt issues
elgland and serena no issue at all???
This sounds like a BS way to buy Nissan’s cheap for a quick re-sale and profit
Got a notice in the mail stating they extended the warranty to 70K miles on my '18 Pathfinder. Wish it was 100 since the CVT started slipping and shuddering at 96K miles. Changed the fluid and still went out. Got a '23 CPO and see how well the ZF holds up. Got a 100K warranty on it. I'll definitely will change the fluid at 40 to 45K. I believe the book says 50.
if the book says 50 i would due at 36k imho there on steal belt.

at least you can check fluid with a dip stick others you cant if you change trans oil on time cvt are used on ram trucks too so nissions are not the only ones
My 2014 Maxima transmission went to hell... Never getting one again
2019 Altima S series, rental rescue at 35K miles, only cosmetic headaches, a cranky radio, and a faulty air intake sensor. Three cross-country trips, a new set of touring tires, a door control module, a new battery, not a hiccup with the powertrain. Xitronic seems to have gotten their act squared away with the 2019 line.
Its an Altima. It will breakdown prematurely at the worst moment.
I have an 2008 Altima changed the cvt fluid twice it’s got 90000 miles on it. No issues.
I have 2008 Altima coupe 3.5SE with 123000 miles, no issues either, and I've never changed my cvt fluid at all. Was that a good year for them? My Nissan dealer once told me not to change it. I'd like to get a more definitive answer on that though.

Anyone recommend a 2021 kick?
No the electronics are garbage still my buddy has a new kicks and it’s in the shop every other week for glitching and transmission problems
I bought one a few months ago. So far no real issues at 6000 miles . I did notice that the crash sensor will light up but I think it has dew on it buy after a couple minutes of driving early mornings ( Louisiana ) the sensor clears. Also I'd suggest changing the oil every 4000 miles instead of 5000. I do my own oil changes and noticed the oil was quite black at 4000. I'm going to err on the side of caution and have the transmission fluid flushed and filled at 20000 miles instead of the recommended 30000.
Trouble is coming!!!
My 2019 Sentra transmission went out at 115000 miles. Will be out $4500
Yikes, a dealer is offering me this exact car with 84km on it, I think I’m gonna steer clear
2009 Nissan Altima, 116k no fluid change. Half city half at redline 100mph on highway lol no problems. But have changed fuel pump, alternator, serpentine belt and tensioner, spark plugs, suspension all the way around including tie rods, wheel hubs, control arms, full exhaust system, and practically all sensors, radio and one subwoofer. Nissan Transmission has not gotten any better in the 2020s. The only thing that has changed is the cost of a new transmission is now 6 thousand dollars to replace!! Stay away from Nissan!!!!
Nissan has a problem.. I've owned two in the last 5 yrs.. First one, shame on Nissan.. Second one, shame on me. I don't recommend Nissan to anyone, because the CVT will fail. My first one failed at or around 80 thousand miles.. The second one failed just a few days ago, at 87K. It'll cost you around $3 grand to replace, and once the trans starts to slip, you'll get a P17F0 code.. which won't clear unless you can drive a cycle without the belt slipping.
were they rogues?

I have a 2015 Rogue with 53,000 miles and I had to have the valve body replaced because the check engine light was on and it wasn't accelerating when it should and acts as if it was going to show down when stop at a red light. It still sounds like a lawn mower when I accelerate and when starting the car in the morning.
My 2009 Nissan Rogue is garbage in hot weather while driving long distances. this has damaged Nissan's reputation with me bigly, however i also have a 2017 Nissan Quest, it's pretty awesome, i'm sad they discontinued it.
I didn't know they discontinued the quest. I had one till last year, and it took us all over the USA on family trips and it had all the comfort and luxury we could dream of. Leather heated seats, dvd, game console, 2 screens, bose sound system, 2 sunroof, power everything......I drive a nissan xtrail but I still miss my quest van.
the 2017 was the last one they made. don't know what i'll do when I need another minivan. i intend to buy a frontier on black friday, and figure out how to get rid of the rogue in a way that doesn't harm my conscience.
Thinking about buying a 2015 Nissan Senta @ 81k miles for 10k is this a bad idea. I keep hearing CVTs are dog on nissans
Whilst I admit I know very little about Nissan CVT/s but from the fairly extensive reading I've been getting into lately I'd respectfully suggest that you steer well clear of the apparent crap that appears to be associated with Nissan & their CVT/s unless you have plenty of spare cash to enable you to pay someone else to fix Nissan's obviously bad desigh work!! Better to go ahead with extreme caution & play it safe!! Bottom line is this, if its a Nissan & it's got CVT transmission simply walk past it & don't even stop to look!! Exactly the reason they have had to extend their vehicle warranties & not by a mere fortnight either!!
Don't say you have not been duly warned!! (understandee de englishee???)
I truly hope that you did not buy that car. I am so glad I don't have that exact car anymore.
Dear Nissan.... Gooooooo back to the basics..... Give us back the manual and normal automatic please 🥺
All you have to know is don't buy one.
I got a 2015 nissan sentra from a dealership for 13k still owe a couple more thousand and my transmission is fucked and i still owe money on it car dealership won’t fix it neither mannnnn I’m fucked
2010 Nissan Cube s first Revving going no where, then no acceleration . Thought ns2 fluid change without deep clean would fix it. Nope now no power and no idle. Check engine code initially p1778, p0746,p1421 I’m thinking because a deep fluid flush and change of the filters wasn’t done. It still has gunk left that’s interfering with the fluid pressure. I cleared codes and it started right up with power. It still doesn’t work right. I believe Nissan lies tell you to only change the fluid. Knowing it will run the vehicle down to the ground. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER NISSAN EVER RIGHT UNDER VOLKSWAGON.
This is an old video. Is anyone still paying cash for a Nissan Versa with a transmission issue?
Why would you buy my bad Nissan transmission car? was told ever since Renault bought them out and put these trans in them it became a problem. Anyway, I am going to stay far, even though my 1st car was a Datsun 210 and ran forever.
I’ve owned 8 Nissans and haven’t had a problem.
why cant they hire a good mechanical engineer and find a solution?
So I sat through this useless video just to get a pitch to sell my car? Downvote!
You think the time they spent making CVT transmissions, it would get better. Nope, my 2013 Nissan Versa is having transmission issues now , however it is 10 years old now and has served its purpose. I'm ready for another vehicle probably won't be a Nissan , had 2 Nissan trucks and the Versa I have now , time for a change.

Nissan’s CVT problems was NOT caused by the actual transmission. It was caused by the pathetic CVT fluid they chose to use. A company called SOPUS part of SHELL OIL is who produces Nissan CVT fluid. It’s terrible.
You should remove this. The CVT issues was resolved in 2018 already.
