- 1937 Gibson L-50 Guitar.
Bought in Knoxville at Music Room Guitar Shop, Fall 2010. Brad at the shop said it had come from an original owner on a farm in South Carolina.
This weeks guitar story tells the history and a little of what a lovely vintage archtop is all about.

Everything you said about having to wake the guitar up is SO TRUE. Acquired one a couple days ago. Last owner didn't play it much, and it opened up sooo much after a couple days of playing.
These decent solid top guitars really do need to play themselves in a bit. 🎯

Ha! Well there’s three authenticated and I have it on best authority that there is a definite fourth that has a copyright issues stopping it being published. There was two pics published at the time and I was thinking of the one in the suit which is my favourite if the three. That trip was one of the first times I got to hold many vintage guitars and feel that connection to this era of music and life. This guitar was one of the ways in. Still smells the same. Takes me back.

Loving the videos, might do some about my pre wars.
Though its generally thought that the L1 RJ was pictured with prob wasnt his aa no one mentions a Gibson in their recollections. But if hw did own the gibson it would prob be the guitar he lost to a hotel fire, which would lead him to busk on the highway with a harmonica with Johnny Shines to raise cash to buy Kalamazoos each.
I reckon he had it and bought it secondhand and perhaps only owned it a short while. The wear and condition of it are that of a heavily used guitar. The reasons people give for him not owning it are quite illogical. Of course no one knows for sure and you’ll know more than anyone that there is so much contradictory information and many gaps in his history. In terms of you doing videos - do it. You could easily produce lots of interesting information around your stuff. Book reviews etc. RJ history etc. ❤️

Sounds like a cardboard box with a stick and some strings on it. I love it.
Got flat wounds here. Better with roundwound phosphorus bronze!

Hey, I like your presentation. But it looks like you have flatwound strings on that archtop. I think your guitar would sound a lot better with bronze roundwound strings for an authentic tone.
The flat wounds were to try for a jazz sound with a pickup.
It’s very expressive with the normal 13 phosphor bronze strings.
@@TheWashboardResonators I keep .013 flatwounds (D’Addario Chromes) on my L50. Wonderful sound. Mine’s a 1960.
