I occasionally use a pivot knife with the slotted blade, they take a bit of getting used to, but on some carpet, especially the ones with the fitter friendly backing, i find they cut easier and the blade lasts a lot longer

I think those open slotted blade knives are dangerous!
I know all the American and Canadian guys use them👍
