1. The average consumer doesn't buy a crossover SUV for performance. (Ignore my screen name, lol.) My wife (and I, really when it comes to a crossover SUV) couldn't care less how fast it is. Rogue is comfortable, quiet, ridiculously efficient and Pro Pilot Assist rocks. If I wanted speed I'd buy a sports car (or a motorcycle... or two)... i.e. toys, (which I have.) But our everyday driver is a tool, not a toy. It exists to make my life EASIER and more comfortable, not necessarily more fun. There is a time and place for fun, and commuting to work at 6:30 every day while sipping coffee is not that time. 2. Speaking of Pro Pilot, you gotta put way more emphasis on the driver assistance technology! ICC + lane KEEP system (not just a departure warning-- Pro Pilot physically keeps you centered in the lane as long as the camera can lock onto the painted road lines) + blind spot warning + several other factors all play into an awesome "kick back and relax" driving experience. It will practically drive you down the interstate with minimal effort. 3. Speaking of minimal effort, the lighter steering wheel is also that much less effort it takes to glide a Rogue down the road. 4. I thought the back seat in the Rogue was fantastic-- I'm a 6'0" male. There is really something to be said about deep footwells for a comfortable riding position for adults and the Rogue has a great floor-to-seat-to-ceiling height. 5. To the people trash talking the CVT for it's rumored lack of longevity, I have personally gone through both a 2005 Honda Accord automatic transmission rebuild (at 120k miles) and a 1999 Dodge Durano auto transmission rebuild (at about 110k miles). Both ran me upwards of $4200. Nissan isn't the only manufacturer out there whose transmissions sometimes don't make it to 200k miles without an overhaul. CVTs are actually simpler in design compared to a regular planetary automatic gearbox, with way fewer moving parts and thus they are about 15% or 20% cheaper to replace than a regular auto gearbox should you ever have to. (Disclaimer: I'm currently leasing a 2019 Rogue and I've never driven an Equinox-- but I LOVE my Rogue!)
Yesss! I hate it when they spend even 10 seconds talking about speed beyond the facts and starting dropping opinions of how fast or sluggish they are. We just want space and great MPG. Lol
Agreed 100%. CVTs are awsome. They do best what you do 99% of the time anyways. Just drive. They are as smooth if not smoother than a traditional TC automatic while beeing as efficient in city driving as a DCT. In day to day operation, I found them to react faster than either of the above if you suddenly need some power. SO while not feeling "as sporty", they actually have an edge in those day to day situations. And if you are crusing there is no thing as calming as a CVT, just gliding along without those stupid rev jumps. ProPilot is awsome as well. A lot of reviewers have actually no idea how it works and how much more it does compared to your typical lane departure warning and ACC. Seats - it won't get much better than the Rogue in this class, front AND back. It's just a damn good package and there is a reason why it is the market leader.
I own a 2014 Nissan Rogue with 100,000 miles and we've had 0 problems with the cvt. And in daily use, it isn't noisy at all! This car was not built for 0-60 tests...it was built to carry a family comfortably around town, and it fulfills that mission flawlessly.
That’s the same with my family. We have a 2007 Murano it has 200k on it with the 1 gen cvt and hasn’t let us down. We now even have a 2015 Murano but that has 20k but still haven’t given us a problem.
I own a 2018 Rogue Sport SL and a 2019 Rogue SL. They’re both fantastic vehicles. They may not win any races, but nobody buys these vehicles for speed. They’re well built, they come with every bit of electronics you’d ever want (premium package, and ProPilot on the 2019), and they’re comfortable for four people. ProPilot is amazing; once you get comfortable with it, you’ll always use it for freeway driving. It’s a package of adaptive cruise and lane holding. I’ve tested it around aggressive turns, and it works well. Great tech. The top-down and side view cameras are very useful maneuvering aids. Both have the 6-speed auto, and I don’t have an issue with noise or speed. I average 28 mpg combined, and nearly 31 freeway in the 2019. I don’t regularly drive the Sport, but it seems to do about the same. Eco mode and a report screen containing instant MPG and a bar that shows how economically you’re driving help. A combined braking-acceleration number also gives useful feedback on driving style. Ultimately, I’m sure the Chevy is a fine vehicle, but I do love our Rogues.
FYI- all Rogues have CVT’s (Cont Variable Transmission.) Nissan programs them to rev out a ratio a little then “shift” to the next ratio quickly to make it feel like a traditional automatic gearbox, but you get all the MPG bonuses of never breaking the power to the wheels that actually happens when a trad. auto trans actually shifts gears. They implemented this “D-Step technology” in the early 2010 decade due to lots of consumers not being comfortable with the way the engine just sits around the optimal RPM all the way from 20 to 80 mph and never “shifts.” In actuality, it is smoothly shifting the whole time. -Er, WAS smoothly shifting, until that freaked enough consumers out that Nissan had to program the CVT to mimic a traditional gearbox.)
It's there opinion...That's all it is....I own a rogue ,have had chevy's all my life....50,000 miles so far and nooo problems....Thats more than i can say for the last 3 gm products i have had!
Right on. I am on my 4th year on the Ford F150 with absolutely no problems. The prior two trucks I owned were GMC and Chevy and both had early transmission failures, both ring and pinion gears went out and both a/c compressors went out in115K-135K miles. The Equinox will probably do the same. I hate to say it but Chevrolet just doesn't engineer quality into their drivetrains. That's why the Cruse, Malibu and Sonic doesn't sell. Why buy one and get problems when you can buy a Civc, Sentra or Corolla.
I’be got a 1999 Silverado with the original motor and it has 540,000 miles. They original transmission went out at 412,000 miles. I don’t call that early. Every car manufacturer is going to have a lemon no matter what you buy. What about the 2005 Ford Explorer. They were nicknamed the Ford exploders. It wasn’t because Ford was a bad brand. They just made a mistake of making the rear of the Explorer independent suspension which caused a lot of trouble.
Go to any owner forum, including Nissan, and complaints are plentiful. I've had great GM vehicles but every single model of every brand has ones that have issues.
All companies have bad rigs sometimes. I have never had any serious issues with a gm truck and I use them on the farm to pull trailers and mud them across fields pull trailers. Go where the Ford's park and walk in or pull them out! fords make good grocery getters.
Designed for, but with the lack of power and time spent at high RPMs, much of the time I the real world they are worse. We owned a nissan Versa 1.8L CVT for 6 years. Decent over all car, but needed an engine replaced under warranty . Our 1.5T equinox gets significantly better highway and city fuel economy. Even though the equinox is much heavier and AWD.
We OWN that Rogue. We Did own a 2017 Juke. The Insurance on the NEW Rogue with accident avoidance, AND the NON turbo is 50 bucks a MONTH Cheaper . TURBO= Increase in Insurance and service. The seat comfort is HUGE for a long trip. This bigger Rogue gets the same fuel economy as the much smaller Juke. ROGUE back seats RECLINE guys... OH, and they also have sliders to move forward and back. The configuration of the Rogue storage is Perfect. It has a grocery getter mode that almost everyone loves. Andre, check out the WHOLE back seat next time!
Nodak81 Some Nissan dealers offer lifetime Powertrain Warranty at no extra cost for brand new Nissan models which I took advantage of. So no worry about the CVT.
turbo doesn't mean higher insurance. though its not a turbo, my insurance quoted me a price right in the middle of a subi outback and chevy equinox, for a 2019 Mustang GT w/460hp !! it has to do with insurance accident ratings, theft % of vehicles history, and related things like that. Rogue is generally nice, and I think it has locking cente diff ? but I like the equinox better, for power/fuel cost balance is pretty decent. It has lots of features too... though it doesn't have the same breaking/collossion system, overall it's a good choice.. But all are decent choices for various peoples preferences, needs, etc.. Rogue is just too slow for me.. I am the guy that cares for some decent passing power.. not every day driving, but when need it, it's there. we have a 2.5 Legacy and it's just fine when I drive it, but on hwy and passing trucks, etc.. I hate it.. but it's the wife's every day driver, not mine. I would of gone with the 3.6R if was my car. Side note, cvt's can be for power as well. I believe originally they were designed for peak toruqe to stay in place for race cars, and if done right, can actually be faster acceleration. but they're durability/reliability is not there yet.
OK the navigation test isn't really fair. How many people actually pay for Onstar after the free subscription runs out? I know I did not. $20-$40 a month for features that most other manufactures give you for free or are on your phone? No thanks.
you don't need navigation as the vehicle is standard with apple car play and android auto. this feature costs you nothing! so your $20-$40 dollar argument is ignorant and uneducated.
First, my wife and I own a 2016 Nissan Rogue, and when it was brand new it did seem a little slow. The ride quality and the speed we feel has improved with breaking in. I believe two factors are at play with the disappointing 0-60 performance. 1. The vehicle is probably not broken in. 2. I’m sure that the system adapts to the drivers driving style over time. My best advice to you guys is to get one as a long term tester and maybe you will experience for yourself what I’m talking about. ROGUE ALL THE WAY!
We have a 2015 Rogue. I am nearly 6’2” and have lots of space in the rear with the front seat all the way back. They must have had the rear seat slid forward when they checked the room. Our cousin has an Equinox that has peanuts mileage on it and it has already had transmission troubles a couple of times.
Been a chevy man my whole life. Drove the rogue one time and ended up buying one!! Its not a drag car, in everyday driving it's pretty damn good. There's a reason it's the #1 selling suv out there!
I have a 2019 Equinox (Premier) and it's phenomenal. There's almost nothing I would change on it. I have the base engine and it has enough power for my needs. The interior is well-designed and the technology is really nice. I also think the styling outpaces other manufactures. Thanks for the great review, guys!
I have a Ram 1500 hemi, but recently bought a 2018 Equinox 1.5 turbo with 12,000 miles and believe me, runs great. Is my first Chevrolet in my life(46) and Im impressed how this little suv drive. Gas consumption is great. Very happy. Stop start feature don't like me, but I use in L and no more shut off engine.
I have a 2018 Equinox 1.5L as my work vehicle and I drive it almost every workday. The engine I find has plenty of power. In fact, I love the torque that is available so much earlier than with a NA engine. It has fantastic drivability. I have no problem merging onto a 75mph highway. It corners really tight, I was surprised by that. The seats are quite comfortable but I wish the lumbar adjustment had more “push”. It is a fairly quiet vehicle, it is easy to see around and it’s easy to park. The minuses are the engine sounds a little gruff when pushed, and the fuel gauge doesn’t read full even immediately after filling up. I also think the rear looks too minivan like but I don’t really care, it’s a work car. I would consider buying one if I needed a new vehicle and I wouldn’t pay the extra for the 2.0 engine. Oh, I’m getting 30-32mpg but I do a lot of highway.
emark24 the CVT is crap. My girl has a newer Sentra that acts like a Range Rover. It sits consistently at the dealership for warranty repair. From the Nav screen , axles , drivetrain noises , to the recently replaced transmission. This Nissan has left a sour taste for us. I think the Korean Equinox might be a better car lol
@@geog5523 I'm fully aware how bad they are. My buddy has a used car lot, and almost every Nissan hes had in has some sort of issue with the CVT. Nissan does acknowledge they're crap though. Most have been fixed at little to no cost
Had to jump in on this conversation. Ironically I just took my mom's 2013 Sentra with 58k because of shuddering and lagging between 30-40 mph. Of course no codes were being read. The service techs did test drive it and experienced what I brought in in for. Nissan then requested that the dealership take pictures of the CVT while torn down. The dealership did replace the transmission with remanufactured one. Luckily my mom had the extended warranty which was expiring next week..lol. It did cost me 100 deductible. So far its running ok. The transmission comes with a 1 yr or 12k warranty. I'm probably going to trade it in for something without a CVT .
I test drive both vehicles myself. They feel very similar to me, so it came down to price and cargo capability. The equinox was just too small for my needs. I purchased the Rogue..
Jim Levering- In my experience, those modes dont affect acceleration much. Throttle response is much slower in Eco i will say. The sport just keeps you at 2,000rpms whatever speed youre going, doesnt help with off the line acceleration. turning off VDC and OD/Off will let you buzz into the higher rpms when it would normally “shift” (causing more wear n tear definitely) maybe it just seems like im going faster lol
We test drove both the Equinox ST and the Rogue SV. The Rogue had a lot more take off power, great steering and lots of great safety features. The Equinox had no take off power, and it has a feature where the engine shuts off in a few seconds when you apply the brakes and restarts when you remove your foot from the brake pedal. This makes me feel very uneasy and it doesn’t seem safe at all to me, also it seems like this would cause the starter to go out sooner. The turbo engine can be a real problem, if it ever gets too hot it can burn up the motor I was told, and it’s very expensive to repair.
This really shows car reviewers inability to relate with the general consumer. Ex: The second a consumer sees that the 38k chevy has no GPS or panoramic roof vs the 36k Nissan that has both and better MPG game over. Sure the Chevy has more horsepower but the people who care about horsepower and “fun to drive” are not the ones buying SUV’s. Hell going by the sales numbers nobody cares about those things anymore.
it has those features..and GM over prices on purpose.. so if you're not shy, you'll get more $$ off to make up the difference. I test drove both and the Chevy is the better driving dynamics vehicle. Power is key.. over 14 seconds to 60 is dangerously slow... almost twice as long... try passing a truck on the hwy. !! might aw well pull over and go to sleep... both are generally nice, but from my experience test drivng both, Equinox is better in my opinion. it handles better, responsive, it's quite and overall a nice ride.
@@opaextreme9282 have you actually drove the rogue and pass a truck on the highway??? if you did you would know that's not a fact.... the rogue is not a fast suv but it's not that slow
@@alcidescollins9126 I have drove one, but not specifically tested passing a truck, but I know and understand speeds, power, etc.. and I have tried passing a truck with my wife's 2016 Camry 2.5 L (which has better acceleration than the rogue), and I wasn't happy waiting to get passed it, as the left lane was ending soon... Yes, it's Rogue having poorer power/acceleration results in general would make it that slow... Sure, it's not a turtle or crazy slow... but it's SLOW.. imagine if weighed down with 4 people and gear... This goes for all 4 cyl non-turbos in all similar vehicles/wight, but not all the Mazda CX5 (not the new turbo) has a bit better #'s then some, and... the 2.0L turbo in the Equinox rocks !! and it's a nice handling/quiet ride (according to the pro reviews).... If Rogue has the locking centre diff, then I'd like that part... as I'm used to that on my Santa fe... the equinox has normal shitty on demand awd... I don't like that part, honestly.... ..... side note, the new Rav4 has improved it's power and manliness design, but test drove it and check road tests reviews and it's only a wee bit better than before and also too slow for it's size... if load it up, good luck passing truck and if a bit of an uphill... 2-2.5 L turbos are awesome now.... I still kinda prefer naturally aspirated engines, but these do fine... I realized this even more so when I rented a 1.0L turbo car in Greece last year... it wasn't fast, but with the turbo, it didn't have an issue with hills or passing in generall...but still not fast, surprisingly decent...
DominicanRocker1955 I’m a father with 2 children. I bought the equinox because of the power. It’s fun to drive but at the same time accommodates my family. Both suvs are good for different people.
I think you're right. The Nissan will definitely show better in a showroom. Most consumers would not push an Equinox like that in a test drive. $38k MSRP will not mean much after all the incentives and the aggressive lease deals though.
I’m currently renting a Rogue while my 2009 Silverado is in the shop for the third time in 12 months and I’m loving it immensely. It has a good amount of giddy up at sea level and it handles like a champ in my experience with it. I’ll definitely be buying a Rogue within the next 90 days.
If Nissan would put the 2.0 VC Turbo engine in a Rogue, it would be a match made in heaven. They are currently offering the turbo’d Variable Compression 2.0L in select Altimas (and they SCOOT) and some Infiniti models, but haven’t dropped one in a Rogue yet. Idk why.
In just had a Rogue on 3/8/2023 and traded it for an Equinox and everything you said is correct about them both. The Rogue I had was an eye grabber but the Equinox I have now REALLY catches eyes crome wheels, bose sound system, heated mirrors, more power to climb hills, merge into traffic etc, I mean people look as if I'm getting out of a Range Rover or something my girl loves it and she has a decked out CRV. Equinox all day but much respect to the Rogue I still have some love for it.
Traded my '16 Rogue for an '18 Tucson. couldn't be happier, except for the front seats. The Rogue has superb front seats. The Tucson, feels better over all and looks better and has an automatic transmission!
My daughter just had a new Rouge from Enterprise while her Yukon was in the body shop. She loved it, especially the highway mileage; 40mpg @55mph in our area. Now she has a Buick Enclave Essence and loves that even better. Yes it’s larger but it’s more family oriented being a 7-seater. The Enclave even has more cargo space in back.
I'm working on an enclave right now. And I will say this... after removing the engine assembly to repair leaks and only leaks it is still the original engine the customer stated it hasn't had any major repairs other than what we are doing to it right now (complete reseal) at 197k miles along with multiple traverse with exact same engine i have seen with upwards of 150k miles i decided to get one as a family vehicle and we love it. I know reliability is there I did all my research and customer interviews I will say she has a great vehicle.
Rogue sells so well because of dealer and manufacturer discounts that make it attractive for the frugal or low income buyer. At my local Nissan dealer, the discounts add up. That priced Rogue is selling in the low $30,000 range and most on the lot are advertised well below 30k. I am not an SUV guy, or a CVT guy, so I am not interested in one.
Tough one for me. I'm used to CVT engines since I've driven the best of them - Subaru! I'm currently loving Nissans compared to Chevys. I'd take Nissan only because it offers more for the money when it comes to features, comfort and tech. But the Equinox isn't bad at all. I'd buy the Nissan and rent the Equinox.
@@TinoMiller I guess I haven't driven a Nissan CVT yet so I don't know how they compare to, say, Subaru Ascent CVT. You might have more experience there than I do. Overall I think Nissan offers more in feature packages than most manufacturers for the price, though I may be wrong. I felt like I got a whole lot more features for my 2018 Nissan Titan for the money compared to when I bought my 2017 F150. So I guess that's what I based my decision on. If the CVT on the Nissan sucks...I'd rent it too :)
Nooo thank you. The Rogue is Junk. I'd spend more and get an Ascent. It's seriously unfortunate they killed the turbo Forester, because that would be the one for me. The power of both the rogue and the new forester are somewhat inadequate.
JakeDrives that Forrester motor killed itself.. my friend works for subaru and he was saying the turbo would grenade if driven for long periods of time.. say like 2-3 full days of driving
The Rogue back seat adjusts back and forth. I’m 6’1” and keep my driver’s seat fully back. Adjust the back seat as far back as it goes and there’s lots of space, more than you showed. I’ve been driving for fifty years. The Rogue seats are the most comfortable I’ve ever experienced. I agree the engine and transmission are not great, but the price and gas economy make up for it. The Rogue with four cameras came out first, so who copied whom? How much did Chevy pay you? BTW, what’s the purpose of getting a mid-size SUV that gets gas mileage of a larger SUV?
We own the 2017 Rogue the rear seats slide they must have been all the way to the front and they also recline. I think it would have better 0-60 if you would have had it in Sport mode not sure but Ill check. We also have a Sentra 2011 no CVT problems yet as of March 2019.
I agree. The back seats are not roomy by any means, but they are not as bad as this video made it out to be. I have had average sized adults behind me driving with the front seat all the way back and not a complaint. I also don't agree with the speed. It's not fast, but I have never driven it even with 4 adults and thought it was not fast enough. And that's in regular mode, not in sport mode. 14 seconds 0-60 is not accurate. Now this makes me want to go time mine, lol
Yeah they are 3 guys in the car, one of them weighs at least 250 lbs, the other at least 200 lbs and the 3rd we don't know. I mean that's not a very fair 0-60 test imo.
Thanks, guys, great video! I'm looking for a used SUV (2019) and you answered a lot of my questions before I seriously start looking. You saved me a lot of time.
The Equinox tested doesn't have the available Nav option installed so they either had to pair a device or use OnStar. I recently bought my wife a 2020 Equinox Premier 2LZ with Nav and 7 speaker Bose premium sound. The only option it lacks is the sunroof. A feature she doesn't want. We test drove several other competitors the Ford, the Mazda, and the Honda. It was her choice and she chose the Equinox without hesitation. We researched vehicles online before we decided on test drives. The Rogue didn't make the list because it is just too utilitarian for her. She's had the Equinox Premier 2.0 for two weeks now and she absolutely loves the thing.
Good review like the sound test. Been in the market for a used suv. Some of the salesmen straight up told me their lots are starting to steer clear of used Nissan cause of bad transmissions.
Agree with you guys. I've been looking at getting a new vehicle. I currently own a 2005 Equinox and have no major complaints. So your review of the 2019 Equinox has me interested in looking at it.
70+ % of buyers of these cars are WOMEN . I said BUYERS, not renters, or Leasers. IF you had some women look at these two cars, you might change your mind on What is important. Nissan is NOT trying to sell Nathan a Rogue. The cargo set up for groceries is a BIG seller. The back seat Sliders AND recline are huge sellers for the Nissan. The Nissan Front Accident avoidance is HUGE with Insurance company costs. No Turbo means more room for a bigger transmission cooler, and less costs down the road. The Front seats are top in class comfort. Maybe a Review with the targeted market is in order. Nissan has a home run here and keeps riding the wave from 2017.5 and right into 2019. ( yes they made a 2017.5 Rouge in s, SV and SL trim).
I have a 2015 kia sportage sx turbo. 260 hp, awd, 6 speed. Will do over 30 mpg on the highway. Bought it new for my wife and she loves it, and has only 25,000 miles on it after 4 years, and only one warranty issue. The 2.0 turbo is very impressive and efficient.
Since you asked for commentary lol... The Chebby is a long term liability dues to its power plant accoutrements - namely a turbo. You've got about 80kmiles to have fun with it before the $2500 repair comes along. The Nissan is a long term liability due to its CVT transmission. Maybe get 100kmiles before repair/replace. Both are renters at best. Caveat emptor.
I have owned several Buicks and Chevrolets with the 2.0 liter turbo. All have easily passed 200 K miles with proper maintenance. Both of my neighbors Altima and Pathfinder have required CVT pump replacement well before 100 K.
Rear seats in the Rogue are stadium style, they recline and slide forward/backwards, Also the Rogue you tested has the panoramic moonroof so you loose headroom if you opt for it.
Ahmed Shafeeq my transmission went out and it’s a traditional transmission. I took the Chevy because it wasn’t a CVT... but it ended up worse. Some of my electronics went out.. the cheap leather is already fading in some spots... thankfully it’s under warranty still. So it was all covered. But that’s not the point.. that’s my experience. It might be different for you.
@@2009skyline Thanks for your feedback, I was looking it a lot, but you told me important notes. So you think a VW t-Rock or a Renault koleos with cvt should be better? because those are my alternatives.
I'm a Nissan guy, and I would not recommend owning any CVT outside of warranty. However GM ain't any better on reliability. Both of em are grocery getters. Soccer moms don't care much about the engine performace. Nissan is proving it about the amenities and price point aka value.
I am leasing a 2018 Chevy equinox with the 1.5 L engine, LT trim. It is a great car to get to around especially commuting to college. for $150 a month I can't complain.
My grandma just got a 3 year lease on a 2019 Nissan Rogue SL with the premium package in the FWD variant. Has the gunmetal gray exterior color with the tinted windows, 19 inch alloy wheels, LED lights, fog lights, panoramic sunroof, back up camera with around view monitor, rear sensors, refreshed taillights, foot motion activated power tailgate with auto close, has the refreshed taillights, has the black leather interior with heated seats, heated steering wheel, remote start, push to start, has the black button on the doors to lock and unlock, has Nissans pro pilot assist with steering assist, automatic braking, blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, automatic braking with pedestrian detection, garage home link, Sirius XM radio, Bose audio system, dual zone climate control, navigation, automatic lights, rear vents, and has the premium package. Priced at 34,620$. Has the leather wrapped steering wheel. It basically looks like this one in the video except for the orange interior.
For the most part the video was right on, except for preference of acceleration and speed. The Rogue has only one option on the engine and the transmission. The Equinox had multiple choices and to compare a 250hp engine against a 170hp engine is not fair. That's like running a V6 ecoboost Mustang against a Mustang GT. Yes they are both Mustangs, but the engine makes all the difference in the world. Another thing is the price. The Rogue had a panoramic roof and the Equinox didn't and it was still about $2000 cheaper than the Equinox. My experience with both vehicles and I've owned both is that the Rogue is more dependable in the long run than the Chevy. Thanks for the testing of two good vehicles.
Other features on the Rogue you tested were hands free tailgate, rear automatic braking and with the free trial of the NissanConnect Services app you can use parental controls to receive notifications if your kid exceeds a set speed, goes outside of a certain boundary , turn on lights, unlock doors and other services. The Rogue may not be the newest crossover on the market but it packs a lot of premium features for the money. My 2018 CR-V was totaled by my insurance company last week. The CRV had more road and wind noise but it was more fun to drive with the 1.5 turbo. With all the incentives that I qualified for and the hefty discount my dealer gave me on a never titled 19 demo with 6,000 miles made it a easy decision. I drive less than 10,000 miles a year and will pay it off in 24-36 months then give it to my niece to drive to college.
doesn't the rogue 2nd seat have an option to move backwards. ill go with rogue for a daily commuter. more features although less power which makes it efficient not to temp driver to go more than maximum speed on the highway.
I just bought a 2019 Equinox with the Premier trim level "True North Edition". Towing Capacity is 3500 lbs and comes with the factory installed Tow package. In the Ford Escape, it's an $800 dealer installed option (Canada) - even at the Titanium trim level. Chevrolet gives you two years complimentary maintenance, Ford NO. Ford has "Employee Pricing" but is offset by the finance rate which is now 4 or 5 per cent higher. My calculation showed I was now paying more for the Escape during the current employee pricing event, than just prior to it. I also found the Equinox had more bell's & whistle's than the Cadillac XT4 SUV. Currently, all the high-tech features found in other SUV's are available in the Equinox. Chev has really picked up their game and the Equinox is definitely worth a look. Beautiful ride, lot's of power and a little bit of luxury at a reasonable price.
@@terrencejones9817 I'm generally doing everything I can to get the best gas mileage, but just once I was a little harder on the accelerator than normal and it kicked down a gear and took off, it felt like someone kicked me with a boot. I've driven for 40 years and for the most, I've had a heavy foot on the accelerator and I am very impressed with the power of this vehicle. "and everything else". The 2.0 turbo mated to the 9 speed tranny is absolutely amazing.
@@patrickinottawa27 we have a 1.5T equinox. It does get great fuel economy. In fact quite a bit better than the rated fuel economy. I do have lots of seat time in the 2.0l turbo. I frequently drive them for work and my trips are 2-300 km. Fuel economy in the 2.0T is also better than rated. Especially after intial break in/ first oil change. Being that said these are highly boosted small engines, I would suggest changing the oil more often than the oil life monitor says. We have 30 000km on our 1.5 now and I'm changing the oil @ 50% life on the monitor. Zero problems so far.
Thank you for the great video! I'm planning to buy the Equinox 1.5 turbo but I'm still worried because I'm using now Kia Sorento v6 2016! what do you think? for a small family?
I have both vehicles...But the Chevy equinox is way better than the Nissan rogue in terms of handling, control, engine response, smoothness and ergonomic 👌
I own a 2018 Equinox 1.5 turbo AWD. It's no rocket, but its quicker than that Nissan . It's getting better than its 30MPG highway rating. I did a 190 mile road trip and averaged 35mpg for the trip, with 4 people, overnight bags , a dog and the AC system on the entire trip.
My Parents bought a Nissan and at first I hated the car as soon as I went outside and I got to say Nissan at my words. Threw out my four years with this car there were not issues with this 2015 SUV and I see myself driving a Nissan someday.
Nissan over any GM product...by the way these SUV are not made to go racing...they are made for everyday driving...Nathan thinks more power is better...sure you are going to have more power in the Equinox..but how long before it's starts to go sideways?....TEAM ROGUE!!!
In 2019, the Rogue was suffering from what it still suffers from, age. As you note, the Rogue is an affordable, perfectly competent commuter CUV. But it was designed in 2014. By the time of this review, it had been available for almost 6 years, meaning it is at the very end of its product cycle. That's why it doesn't have a lot of power, when it was designed, there was a lot less tech on board and 170 HP and torque was about the standard. While it's fun to ding Nissan over CVT, people seem to totally forget how many Japanese vehicles have a CVT! I drive a 2017 Pathfinder. Power isn't an issue and the CVT, while its not a dragster, gets the job done perfectly well. As for the back seat, that is from it being designed as a 3 row vehicle. Nissan, like a lot of other manufacturers, realized the 3rd row in a compact sacrifices too much in comfort and cargo to make it useful. The market for such vehicles is tiny, and Mitsubishi, and the dinosaur Dodge Journey already occupy the space. I would expect the 2021 Rogue to correct many of these problems.
It's all about looks. My friend just leased a Rogue and I was going to buy one too. The equinox like the rest of Chevy has a you love or hate look. Rogue looks way better inside n out. It's the Ford Explorer in the 90s.
To me, the Rogue is dated looking and needing a re-do a few years ago. Think it's ugly. Equinox is better styled and what's with that tiny screen, sheesh, time to upgrade some looks for the Rogue and quickly. CVT? Never.
I have the 19 equinox 2.0T. My biggest complaint is the 9 speed. It's slow. Even just from switching from reverse to drive. 8.8 seconds from a 2.0T most other 2.0T are in the mid to low 6s. I'll have to do my own test one of these days
I came from a 300 hp 2013 Impala so the Rouge is not a compact SUV option. 2.0 T equinox has plenty of power when I need it with minimal noise. Seats in Impala were the most comfortable seats in any car I have ever owned however the seats in the Equinox are not bad. The soft texture seats are not as durable and out for most cars these days.
The rogue may have its looks but I’d gladly take the Chevy’s powertrain over the Nissan’s. That CVT no matter how much Nissan touts it as smooth and efficient, is not built or known for durability. There’s a reason why they’re having to extend the warranty on JUST the CVT and nothing else.
This is a completely subjective review. Clearly the rogue is the more sensible choice. Cheaper to buy and run. More technology. As for going fast, I'm pretty sure that's not high on the list for buyers of these vehicles. You guys are both a car review and a car enthusiast channel. Not all cars really need to be fast.
You make a valid point in general. But a vehicle that reaches 60 mph in over 14 seconds is on the edge of unusable. Not everyone lives a mile above sea level, of course, but if I lived in Denver, I'd be hesitant to try to merge onto a freeway.
Must be different transmission than the 2019 Altima. My 0 to 60 with a 2.5 engine is just over 9 seconds and the car is very quick especially at passing. Love the Altima. Plus I'd take a Nissan (or just about anything else) over a Chev. Not impressed with GMs quality lately.
My 2010 Altima 2.5 S has probably 0-100 kmh (0-75) in I think 6-8 seconds on that CVT transmission (guessing to some degree but it's freakin' quick). I'd agree entirely except we're forgetting one thing. These guys are doing their tests in Colorado at about 1 mile above sea level. Where I am, I'm only 76 meters (250 ft) above sea level. At their altitude, the turbo seriously helps. If this was done closer to or at sea level and with the guys controlling the transmission manually, I'm sure the results would be vastly different. But... I digress. My dad has the 2018 Rogue and its acceleration is more than adequate, not at all like what these guys are claiming. Also completely agree with you
I bought a 2019 Nissan Rouge SV and I’m very happy with it. It totally does what I need it to do. I will add that our family suv is a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse. Which my wife drives and we are also happy with.
The optional front-wheel drive option is definitely a step in the right direction. I feel full-time AWD tends to suck the fuel a bit especially when you don't need it in the summer months.
Replace stock air filter with a K&N on the Rogue, it makes a crazy difference in performance, and don't slide the rear seats all the way forward and say it has no leg room.
Rich Petro my ‘16 SV goes 0-60 like that under 2000rpm. Then again, I modified mine a bit. Regardless, if you keep driving that Chevy to feel the power difference you can expect a visit to the mechanic shop.
Dave Dankness what did you do to yours? I just inherited my wife’s rogue and love it. (She got a new Ford Edge and I got rid of my frontier) I’m curious to know if there are any simple bolt ones that would increase mpg
Rich Petro start with K&N performance gold oil filter, K&N air filter. Only run Mobil 1 extended performance 5w30 full synthetic. Then look at the front of the intake scoop, it should have foam and a piece of plastic that holds a wire harness blocking it from getting air. Remove the foam, and use a serrated knife to cut away the plastic blocking the air scoop without removing the wire harness spot. I also added a tower strut brace to mine, it may be the only rogue in NA with one though as I ordered my freight shipped from japan. I also added a PCV oil catch can. That prevents hot oil vapors from clogging up your throttle body over time. I also run iridium spark plugs, and only use 91 fuel.
Rich Petro I usually average 30-32mpg on each tank with less than half freeway miles. Just simply by keeping my RPM under 2000 where the CVT stays in eco mode and doesn’t give a synthetic shift pattern. You don’t need to put the car in eco mode though, as I’ve found it actually hurts mileage. I tested this over my current 65k miles on my rogue.
Seems like they thought the rouge was more comfortable, but then chose the equinox, bc the back seat was more cramped. I am not buying my SUV based in zero to 60. They seemed way too focused in on the engine. I'm debating between these two cars right now. How fast it can go quickly is way down on my list of what's important.. how easily a family of 5 can get in and sit in it. Storage, driver seat comfortableness, tech, charger outlets for the kids, etc. I think these two were comparing what was important to them, and hey, it's their video. They can bade it on the stereo if they want. But most people are buying these for their family and the price. The rouge is a good value, and that why I am thinking about it. Price matters alot too. Next video I suggest they use criteria that more people use for that model, more than horsepower. But still, it was a good video and thank you for doing it.
The equinox not above sea level does it it 6.67 seconds with the 2.0T. It’s fast and it can tow 3500 lbs. also the equinox could have had a huge panoramic sunroof
@@ma7mgte - They even said in the video that the Rogue sells more than the Toyota Rav4 and Honda CR-V. The Equinox is not the top selling in it's class.
@@terrencejones9817 - It's a 2018, I'd sure as Hell hope it has zero issues! Equinoxes are known to have engine (minor and major) problems as well as electrical issues.
@@DeadofWinter321 the 2018+ are totally new designs, new chassis and engine line up. Nothing carried over from the old model. The old 2.4L had problems indeed. But it's gone. You can not equate the problems of the old model to the new, they literally share nothing but the name.
Two vehicles that are purchased by people who make bad decisions, durability is terrible with both, especially that self-destructive Nissan transmission
Right off the bat the guy seemed like he liked the Equinox, even before he looked at the Rogue...so that kinda bites. I think between Nissan and Chevy there’s no comparison, Nissan 💯
My family has owned countless Chevrolet products and a few nissans, thus said, chevrolet has treated us well, but I really can’t say the same for Nissan..
Having owned a Nissan with a CVT for 5 years, never again. We bought a 2018 Equinox with the 1.5L awd. It has been great! Better than rated MPGs, we've got 32 highway mpg on some trips. The AWD works great, the infotainment system is amazing. The 2.0L turbo engines are very quick. They all handle well too. I want you add that your 0-60 time is definitely slowed by the amount of people and the altitude. It's more in the mid to high 6 second 0-60 in AWD.
I was a Toyota Rav4 fan and checked out their 2019 and was completely disappointed by it starting at being 6 feet tall and not being able to get in comfortably with the seat all the way down and having 1/2 inch of headroom. It all went downhill from there and we tried the Rogue and it was a done deal. Nice car, nice features, easy on gas and easy on the ticket stubs.
Good review! I thought I was going to go with the Rogue but it is not a drivers car. I look at cars two ways, driving(fun) and transportation. The Equinox is more enjoyable for people that enjoy driving. The Rogue is a good car, nice looking, good gas, nice interior, but just borrowing driving for me.
I'm gonna say it again: It is not really rare that the voice command system successfully found the destination. It IS really rare that you guys test it properly. When you DO test it properly, it works brilliantly. Thank you for testing it correctly again.
Why ask for navigation help when your phone has Waze or Google Maps that will display on the screen? Being I have the Malibu Premier and the Equinox is built off the same platform, they do recommend premium gas for that 2.0 T engine. Just saying:). But it's a very responsive engine.
If I wanted speed I'd buy a sports car (or a motorcycle... or two)... i.e. toys, (which I have.)
But our everyday driver is a tool, not a toy.
Everything you said! Amen brother!
Damn brother you need to replace these guys. I learned more reading your comment than watching the video smh.
@@jonathang2203 they've gotten better
I own a 2014 Nissan Rogue with 100,000 miles and we've had 0 problems with the cvt. And in daily use, it isn't noisy at all! This car was not built for 0-60 tests...it was built to carry a family comfortably around town, and it fulfills that mission flawlessly.
Very hard to believe trans are blowing left and right.
It's a gamble sometimes you get a good one and sometimes they crap out without warning just keep up with maintenance
That’s the same with my family. We have a 2007 Murano it has 200k on it with the 1 gen cvt and hasn’t let us down. We now even have a 2015 Murano but that has 20k but still haven’t given us a problem.

@@alcidescollins9126 no newer one CVTS fail. Older ones could be fixed with a new valve body and adding an oil cooler for trans
Does the Rouge have enough power on the highway for merging and passing? Thanks
My coworker has a 2014 rouge and I raced her to other my old 2003 Lincoln town car lol but don’t race . **i won
They don’t sell not because of their drivetrains but because people are buying more crossovers and suvs then they use to.
I like my rogue, it’s affordable, comfortable, very economical. My days of worrying about how fast a vehicle is are long gone.
Those seats on the rogue are nasa inspire not made by nasa but you can really feel the difference on road trips my heart goes to the ROGUE.
Its junk
CVT are designed for efficiency not power. I would take the Rouge over Equinox. More options to choose from besides the
3 powerplants that GM offers.
They didn’t test the premier equinox package, it has everything the rouge has plus a lot more
This review seems biased against the Rogue.
And here I thought the one guy was very biased for the Rogue from the first minute.
ROGUE back seats RECLINE guys... turbo doesn't mean higher insurance. though its not a turbo, my insurance quoted me a price right in the middle of a subi outback and chevy equinox, for a 2019 Mustang GT w/460hp !! it has to do with insurance accident ratings, theft % of vehicles history, and related things like that.
No thanks.

We have one. We've seen 35mph on trips where we average 50-55mph. Power is good enough indeed. Another 30hp would be nice though .
And the 1.5 doesn't require premium gas:) The gas is going to go back at some point, perhaps sooner than we think.

emark24 the CVT is crap. My girl has a newer Sentra that acts like a Range Rover. It sits consistently at the dealership for warranty repair.

The Nissan has 3 transmission options. Eco, normal and sport. You should test each at 0 to 60.
They both sell like hot cakes. Can’t go wrong with either. Personally I’d take the Chevy just because I can’t stand CVTs
FYI sports mode helps with higher speeds in that rouge ... I always use that when I’m on the highway ... helps a lot
My in-laws have an Equinox Premier and we just bought a Rogue SL (2018). Both good vehicles. Buy the one you like!

Chevy Equinox all day long
2.0t vs a 2.5 naturally aspirated 4, seems like a fair review to me *eye roll*
The Nissan does not offer a turbo, and the Equinox does not offer an NA engine.
Idk why.
sportscardude it’s gonna be an option for the 2021 redesign 👍
Nissan gives away their vehicles
So Nissan cars is for low income people?? Most of the cars out there uses cvt transmission.
I like the CVT but something always steers me away from Nissan CVT .. Probably lease the Rogue and Buy the Equinox
@@TinoMiller the turbo costs to own are higher, and so is the insurance
R Phipps 👍😂😂😂
The back seats also RECLINE! I have to say its the best car we have bought new, and that number is 15.
We own the 2017 Rogue the rear seats slide they must have been all the way to the front and they also recline. I think it would have better 0-60 if you would have had it in Sport mode not sure but Ill check. We also have a Sentra 2011 no CVT problems yet as of March 2019.
Tovar Endwy I got my 2017 Rogue under 8 secs 0-60 in normal mode I love my Rogue!!!
Alvin Achterhof yeah go check out my 60 time on my page it’s very accurate and I compared it normal vs sport mode
The CVT is HORRIBLE and the reason why I'm trading my Altima for something that doesnt have a CVT.
Now the Question is for the Nissan, did they have it in ECO mode or Sports mode, because I have a 2015 and I find that both modes are different.
Owned 2 Chevy turbos no issues.
Rear seats in the Rogue are stadium style, they recline and slide forward/backwards, Also the Rogue you tested has the panoramic moonroof so you loose headroom if you opt for it.
I own the Chevy! Whatever y’all do... DONT BUY THE CHEVY!
2009skyline
can you state to me why? I am actually thinking about it.
@@2009skyline
Thanks for your feedback, I was looking it a lot, but you told me important notes.
So you think a VW t-Rock or a Renault koleos with cvt should be better? because those are my alternatives.
Ahmed Shafeeq well, I’m in the states.. so we don’t get those brands here.

I'm a Nissan guy, and I would not recommend owning any CVT outside of warranty. However GM ain't any better on reliability. Both of em are grocery getters. Soccer moms don't care much about the engine performace. Nissan is proving it about the amenities and price point aka value.
6’2 my ass. He look like Andre the giant back there. I am 6’2 and weigh 290 and fit in the back of the rogue fine. I own a 2019 rogue sv
I am leasing a 2018 Chevy equinox with the 1.5 L engine, LT trim. It is a great car to get to around especially commuting to college. for $150 a month I can't complain.
to lease the one in this video is 320 a month and 2500 down
My grandma just got a 3 year lease on a 2019 Nissan Rogue SL with the premium package in the FWD variant.
Sorry I just can't trust Chevy enough to buy one. We're a Nissan family, I'd never switch.
The Nissan of Today, is not the same of old. Renault influence has brought Nissan quality to it’s knees...
Had a rogue. Got a equinox. Equinox is Def. Better.
Jhall for breaking down
among my sewing circle the Rogue is the hot seller with da ladies. Nothing but good comments about usability and mileage.
doesn't the rogue 2nd seat have an option to move backwards. ill go with rogue for a daily commuter. more features although less power which makes it efficient not to temp driver to go more than maximum speed on the highway.
The 2.0 turbo is damn quick for an SUV.
Man, you guys are jammed in those cars like sardines.
I have both vehicles...But the Chevy equinox is way better than the Nissan rogue in terms of handling, control, engine response, smoothness and ergonomic 👌
Hi .
You promised new RAV4 2019 review? Why you didn’t add to comparison
Chevy all the way.....I have had multiple family members still trying to deal with Nissan's crap transmission. Both on Pathfinder and Rouge
Off topic question. What brand and where do you get your Hula Girl?
You should sell the hula girl on your website.
Dollar stores usually have them
In 2019, the Rogue was suffering from what it still suffers from, age.
CVT? Never.
Why compare the 2.0 turbo to the rogue? It's more direct competitor would be the 1.5 turbo premier.
I have the 19 equinox 2.0T. My biggest complaint is the 9 speed. It's slow. Even just from switching from reverse to drive. 8.8 seconds from a 2.0T most other 2.0T are in the mid to low 6s. I'll have to do my own test one of these days
Maybe the slight difference is the AWD versus FWD? Perhaps front wheel drive would get to 60 a little quicker?
who said that the 19 Equinox does not have ACC? i have it in mine ,
Don’t come trying when your trans goes out in the Chevy at 20k miles
Or timing chain problems at 5k. I have seen a ton of chevy timing chain problems in very low mileage vehicles the last few years. But it keeps me paid
Where did you get that non factual information?
More like you don’t know shit about cars because Chevy doesn’t compare to any japanese brand or german brand
That’s funny, wait till that cvt transmission dies on you
I came from a 300 hp 2013 Impala so the Rouge is not a compact SUV option. 2.0 T equinox has plenty of power when I need it with minimal noise. Seats in Impala were the most comfortable seats in any car I have ever owned however the seats in the Equinox are not bad. The soft texture seats are not as durable and out for most cars these days.
Great review as always..can you please do a video Mazda CX 5 turbo VS Chevy Equinox 2.0 Turbo..Thanks
@@stephenhendricks103 700 lbs of people in it for that test.
Dave Dankness right? I thought it seemed like he let off at the beginning of the 0-60 run. I get less than 8 seconds on my ‘17 SV.
Towing on the Equinox with the 2.0T is up to 3500 pounds.
Minor correction. The 2.0 turbo Chevy is rated to tow 3500 lbs. You said 1500 lbs in the video.
2,000 lbs. Not so minor. :)
The equinox not above sea level does it it 6.67 seconds with the 2.0T. It’s fast and it can tow 3500 lbs. also the equinox could have had a huge panoramic sunroof
That's it, I am buying the Rogue. Thanks.
I want to take a Nissan just because the engine sound of the CVT Sound Sporty And The look is Nice
LaurenzRBLX people complain about the powertrain and drivetrain noise, i think the rogue’s sounds add attitude in a segment of numb/quiet crossovers
Then you should watch the reviews about Nissan and see what people are saying about Nissan since it was bought out by Renault. I'd never buy one.
If they actually had to put their own hard earned $$$, we all know they would buy the Nissan.
Nissan currently moves more Rogues than GM does Equinoxes. Chevy has more problems too, I’d go and recommend the Rogue.
I've had a 2018 equinox for a year now. Zero issues. Compared to our Nissan Vera that needed a new engine at only 50k miles.
You have numbers? I have not heard too many issues with either vehicle outside the standard stuff.

Nissan sheep already have their mind made up. No sense wasting your breath
I would take the Rogue any day over Chevy crap! We are on our second Rogue and loving it!
I'm gonna say it again: It is not really rare that the voice command system successfully found the destination. It IS really rare that you guys test it properly. When you DO test it properly, it works brilliantly. Thank you for testing it correctly again.
For sure I’d buy the equinox. Easier to repair and parts are cheaper.
till you need a turbo...
Why ask for navigation help when your phone has Waze or Google Maps that will display on the screen? Being I have the Malibu Premier and the Equinox is built off the same platform, they do recommend premium gas for that 2.0 T engine. Just saying:). But it's a very responsive engine.
