I used to get such a slagging back in the day for loving this song and the film it belongs to . Still watch Buddy's Song to this day! A song with a great pop writer like Nik Kershaw behind it and Chesney who is a very underrated talent and the son of a Pop legacy His dad being Chip Hawkes from the Tremelos. The original origin of Buddy was a book by Nigel Hinton (which they still study in secondary school) to this day. There is also a television series that accompanies the book although it was made long before the film Rodger Daltery ( Of the Who Fame) played Terry (Buddy's dad) in both the series and the film. Chesney only played Buddy in the film after a star search on Breakfast TV if I remember right. Will always be a favourite.
The '90s was really the last good decade for music and how life itself was. Unfortunately the events of 9/11/2001 would all change that as far as life went.
You got to understand that usually the first couple years of a new decade often carry on whatever sound happened in the previous decade before some big event or cultural revolution changes everything. With the 60s it was the Kennedy assassination and British Invasion that broke it away from 50s conservatism. The 70s had Disco and Punk revolutions to define the decade. The 80s began where the 70s ended before New Wave, Heavy Metal and pop stars began to dominate the charts. As for the 90s, nothing really happened until Grunge and Pop-Punk created a new reason to rebel and start a band. This song was released just prior to the Cultural revolution.
This was a inspiring song released before the idiotic third grade music called grunge. This is rigged the way they change everything unnaturally simply for the sake of change and it's not a natural progression@@jayanxiety

The father of Chesney Hawkes, Chip Hawkes of the Tremolos, lived somewhere around our village area in Sunninghill Berks and I remember the excitement of the locals that knew the Hawkes family in the early 90’s when this played the UK airwaves and became a tremendous hit. I know it was written by Nik Kershaw, who kiddingly stated during a concert in Hyde Park during the London Olympics that he wished he’d kept the song just for himself!
They filmed Doc Hollywood in Micanopy, FL, ten miles from my home. They rented a big building 16 blocks from my home for staging and to store all their equipment. Contrary to the mood of the movie, most of the people weren't all that friendly. One of my favorite "feel good" movies though, and this song has got to be one of the very best of its era!
@@Dasboot1992 Sadly no, and I was expecting to because my real estate company rented a building in Gainesville to the film crew to house all their gear because Micanopy is so small a town, there were no suitable buildings there.

Anybody who says this is crap is talking out of their arse!!! It's a great song that holds up today because it's got a start, middle & end that are all melodic with hooks a plenty!!! The film Buddy's Song was a bit suspect (Roger Daltrey isn't a natural actor!!) but this song is incredible!!

In your defence, it's an upbeat light rock track with a focus on simple emotionality and you'd just lived through the 80s. You probably missed it for the same reason you can't usually hear your own heartbeat. PS: That could be taken as disparaging of that type of music but, while I love at least some music from every era (a warm melodic palette is pretty much all it takes for me - or being top-drawer old-school hip-hop that mostly didn't _have_ a melodic palette), my heart will always truly lie with... exactly the types of songs I described (especially if they involve Peter Cetera). Although I have just realised that my off-the-top of my head Top 5 Favourite Albums features exactly zero 80s light rock tracks: 'The Stranger' in the early 70s, 'Darkness on the Edge of Town' in the late 70s, 'If I Should Fall from the Grace of God' in 1988 but most assuredly not light rock, 'Love, Ire and Song' in 2008, and... ...'Blackout' by the Dropkick Murphys in 2003. Yeah, I'm baffled, too - the album's just somehow belter after belter - I'm _actually_ Irish and I still somehow think their take on 'Fields of Athenry' is unbeatable. Do you have any idea how many incredible traditional renditions of that song I've heard in my time?
I saw Chesney in Stockport, he was part of an 80's bill with T'Pau & Paul Young. I thought it would a short set as he only had this tune, I was wrong he came out with a storming Summer of 69 & played a 45 mins set. Of course when he got to The One & Only, he bought the roof down. He was very entertaining & had a great rapport with the audience.

His trip to #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 from late 1991. I still have the cassette single!
The one and only hit he ever had, but if you're going to have just one hit, may as well make it a banger like this one 👏
The first time I heard this record I knew it would be a number 1, I loved the nineties. X
mr. roger daltrey!1 living legend1 ! wow!1welcome to the here and now!
This song, Doc Hollywood, the 90’s, nothing these days can give you the feels quite like this. ☮️ & ❤️ to everyone 😁
You read my mind!
@@theflash1425 What about Michael J Fox? Did you meet him too?
@@Dasboot1992 Sadly no, and I was expecting to because my real estate company rented a building in Gainesville to the film crew to house all their gear because Micanopy is so small a town, there were no suitable buildings there.
I can’t hear this song & not think about the intro into Doc Hollywood. 😁👍🏻
One of the best of the best pop songs... and that was made 30 years ago! What a time shift and what a pleasure to hear nowadays... remind me of when I was a young adult of 24 y.o. going to the movies on a date and eating a huge bucket of pop corn, exactly like in the video clip :)
Any song that champions pure love, in words and lyrics, has been sorely needed for a very long time. It is timeless.
It doesn't champion true love, it's Chesney saying he's not fake, and a person is the best version of themselves they can be.
This was my 2 sons favourite song when they were little. Used to play it all the time. Fabulous song.
Being a metalhead I really despised this song when it first came out, but I have to admit I still get it stuck in my head 30+ years later...
I AM THE ONE AND ONLY, NOBODY I’D RATHER BE!! Hope everyone is feeling the same
People like to hate this song, yet it's better than a lot of the shit in charts today.
GREAT confidence builder!
GREAT voice!
GREAT music!
YOU are the one and ONLY YOU! Remember that!
Be PROUD of YOURSELF! 👍..✨{❤️}✨
Counter-Strike... The good old times.

Yes
Still Listening this banger in 2024 Team

Roger Dawlty was 6 years younger than Chesney is now. When they made that film.
Just seen him om Michael MacIntyres show. What a cool guy. Great song makes my heart smile ❤️🤗❤️

@@reynardpedros5036 90s is correct.
Chesney was such a talent
So I had this song on vinyl and my brother broke the record literally! I have never forgiven him him and this song is now going going to be played at my wedding at his request 😆
Not sure what made this song pop into my head today but I loved this song and must've played it a billion times when I was a teenager.
i was 20 years old when this released, god i really miss the early 90's and the 80's alot!! same year as my country was independent from soviet union.
Congrats Chesney baby you West Ham legend.
Great to see you in Prague ⚒️⚒️⚒️
I haven't heard this song in so long, wow, love it.
Uuuuuuhhhh... ¡años de no oír esta canción! 🙂 ¡y aún recuerdo la letra!
Gracias por compartir
I am the one and only in the UK who's fought MS for over 50 years who's had a signed shirt and letter from our ENGLAND football team along with a letter from them for my Christmas Day birthday.
Tell me i'm not the only one who sees the parallels with this video and Take On Me by A-Ha??
There are noticeable similarities, I agree.
You are the one and only.
I also can see some 🙈
As the song is written by Nik Kershaw it reminds me of his hit The Riddle IMO 👍😎
Yeah. You have right. Same computer effects. Same era. Same trends. Im fan of AHa of corse ;)
Everytime I see a counterstrike match, I have to think about this song
Jodie hawkes (drummer) teaches drums at my music school aswell as martin Kennedy (guitarist) was my music teacher! Still see them both often, what a band.
I still remember watching it on MTV and hearing while watching "Doc Hollywood".
@ Google it "Buddy's Song".
It was pretty rubbish!!
@ It was released in 1991 (Buddy's Song) & it was pretty poor!!
I like the guitar riffs.
@@KM-mv3qr The whole song is full of catchy hooks!!!
In the 3 decades it's been around I've actually regularly covered it live with the many numbers of bands I've played/play in (I'm a session player) & when this Covid19 horror is over it's going to be back to business "thank whoever is your religious leader is",or if like me you're a Atheist then thank the medical specialists for giving us back our freedom!!
*2:15* My favorite part of the song
What a wonderful song🤗 ... it’s not well known in Germany... but it definitely should be!!!!
The Beatles played in Germany. I miss my teens of the ‘90s. I was in England then
Me encantaba cuando yo tenía 15 años y ahora 30 años después la escucho y me sigue gustando. Gracias por hacerme sentir felizcada vez que la escucho❗😍💝
Been listening intently to music all my life...graduated HS in 1991 when this song supposedly was a Top 10 hit. Never heard it until now.
I am 15 years old when this song released.. very nostalgic.. miss the old days..
Mr Nik Kershaw is a Genius!
So beautiful and poweful positive and smiling voice ! 😀
Wow! Hard to believe that so many people remember this song!
Watching Doc Hollywood and always loved this song.
Much much better than fast food hip hop style of these days! Proud to live teeneage years during 90tees !
Fabulous song from the huge talent that is Nik Kershaw.
