- It was after 2 a.m. on Wednesday when Karlesha called her dad to tell him she was having car problems. She presumed it was the alternator.

You can feel her fathers pain. She clearly called her daddy when she needed help and I hope he isn't blaming himself. Gone way too soon, RIP!

Why would he blame himself? Her car broke down. She was there and he was where he was. He's not a magician. It was a very unfortunate accident that caused the loss of her life. Prayers to the family and condolences for a beautiful soul.

I don't think the dad is blaming himself. It's a tragic accident, and only the driver who hit her is to blame. Guarantee they were looking at their phone. I feel like in this situation, only someone who's seeking attention would blame themselves... the dad got on the way as soon as she called, he can't teleport.... there was literally nothing he could have done, and I'm sure he knows that.
I am glad to know there are still good people in this world and glad the men pulled over to help them out. Prayers for the family.

When Karlesha's mom stated: She will Forever Be 21", my late brother came to mind, and her comment brought tears to my eyes. Like Karlesha he was fatally hit by a car at 21 years old. I empathize with her parents/siblings. The pain is brutal. Praying God comforts all of them daily.

This is why it is important for us to look out for one another on the roads. You don't just speed around accidents. You slow down when you notice it and maybe even put on your hazards so others behind you can slow down and see there is an issue up ahead. You have to assume others don't see what you see and guide them to seeing it so they don't speed by a disabled vehicle or hit it. Also, I know its severe cold weather in a lot of places but you cannot even stay in a disabled car alongside a road. You have to get out of the car and get as far away from oncoming traffic as possible. It helps to have blankets in the car in the event of a disabled vehicle to shield you from the cold should you need to exit the vehicle and get away from the road to safety. The public safety departments are not doing enough to put the message out there to let drivers know that they gotta get themselves out of disabled or stalled vehicles left in or along the highway.

@@Marie68886 You pull as far away from moving traffic off the shoulder as you can; even into the grass. You then exit the car and go as far away from moving traffic as you can. This way if a distracted driver slams into your car, you are not in it.

I feel so horrible for both parties involved. A family lost a daughter and a person has that burden for the rest of their life. May God have mercy and forgiveness for everyone involved in that accident.

I pray for the young lady's family. Such a very sad event. 😪 In emergencies such as this, it is always best to try and pull off the road if possible, or try to get out of the vehicle when safe to do so. Until then always use hazards. This is horrible.

The worst thing on the road is snow, rain and darkness. My friend died the same way on her birthday except the whole car exploded leaving 4 dead. Praying for this young lady family. This is going to be hard forever 🙏🏿

Rip. As someone who had a car stall for the first time a few weeks ago, I would like to share some tips.
1) Put your hazards on and try to get as far away from the car as you can in a quick, safe manner. Seeing that there was snow present, they probably were trying to maintain heat and stay in the vehicle, which makes this even more tragic.
2) Call the police. I did not know that you should call the police in a stalled situation, but learned that you should. This is an emergency situation. The police helped block off traffic and move my car out of the flow of traffic.
I was wondering if her car stalled in the middle of the road or close to the median.

This is heartbreaking. I feel so bad for this young lady and her family especially the young man who was in the car with her. I hope he gets counseling and is able to move pass this. My car stopped years ago in the middle of the street on a dark road so this hits home. RIP to her.

It's a truly sad tragedy, is what it is, and I can't even begin to imagine how the family of both parties are feeling, especially the family of the woman.

My sister was killed by a hit-and-run driver in 1975, when she was thirteen. I was eight, and it was the worst thing I'd ever seen. The worst thing that could happen to an adult is to bury his own child. It was the first time I'd ever seen my Dad cry. The worst part was, Celeste was declared brain-dead, so Dad had to decide to pull the plug. That must have been gut-wrenching.

Be careful and scan the road back and forth and don't get tunnel-vision!! There could be a car stalled in your lane at 3:00 in the morning!!!

Exactly. But it also looks like there was snow. I know they say to pull over and stay in your car. My car was running hot and I pulled over, but I also got out of my car too. I'm thinking she stalked out in the middle and her hazardous lights on didn't work or if they did....maybe the city lights were out. I know my area will cut them off certain hours of of the night because they're cheap. If so, maybe the family can sue the city and definitely file against the other motorist insurance company.

To the sister, I truly understand your loss. Lost my sister too, yrs ago. When we were little, whenever we would fight, my mom would always tell me, "One day your sister is going to be your best friend!" I never believed that, but it was true. We grew closer and closer. Became BEST friends. But she died at 39. Was the worst death I could ever experience. Your sister was irreplaceable. You were supposed to grow old together. The only thing I can tell you is you have to find peace and live the best life you can, for the both of you. My sincerest condolences.

THIS is my biggest fear of being on the Interstate Highway. So sad about this...so little that can be done with traffic going at those speeds. I ALWAYS TRY to drive on the outside lane if at all possible, for this very reason., then, MAYBE i could coast out of the way. My heart is weeping for this family.

@Lola Blue Unless mechanical issue was brakes (locking-up) which wasn’t the case here, do NOT stop… just coast if no power onto shoulder or beyond. Just last week I a flat tire (driver-side) and immediately thought get as far from travel lanes as possible.

Every time I see these kinds of accidents, I remember the time I was driving my first car on a major highway and it stalled out on me, at night. Normally that's not a big deal but it had stalled on me in the middle of a major 10 lane intersection/hub to 4 different freeways. I put on my flashers and realized my rear tail lights weren't working so nobody could see my buddy and I as they were coming at us at 70mph+. We were in complete shock and every time we heard the sound of a car coming close, we both cringed waiting for the impact. How we didn't get completely crushed that night is beyond me. Mind you, this was waaaaay before cell phones. I can only imagine what that poor girl and her brother went through that night😔. R.I.P⚘

Noooooooo.......nowhere and I mean absolutely nowhere to go. Nearest divider or wall was roughly 50yds from us. Visualize an 8 lane highway, going in 4 different directions to other highways. We were 16.

Parents, please tell these kids that if they cannot make it completely off the highway, put on the flashers and get out of that car and get off the highway and wait on the shoulder or grass regardless of how cold it is. Do not sit on the highway in a disabled car. Incidents like this are bound to happen. Tragic lost for the family.
@Sherell Ruth OMG THANK YOU! Like how do you not see a car straight ahead of you unless you weren’t paying attention to the road. And itd be one thing if it was “I saw her and I tried to stop but I slid into her bc I couldn’t get over...” but the way they describe it as not being able to see the car until it was too late sounds like she pulled in front of them - which she didn’t - or that they were not paying attention looking to the side or on their phone and by the time they looked up, they hit her.
Though I do agree that you should put you hazards on and attempt to get off the road. Her car was disabled and she couldn’t get it off the road. In the case the other driver was simply not paying attention.
I don't believe this was anyone's fault , it was a tragic accident. Although the interstate is large, people are driving fast and don't expect cars to be sitting. Hopefully people learn from this story to avoid similar accidents in the future. A young woman was taken way too soon and I am sure the driver is reliving it over and over.
If the alternator went out, wouldn't her system be electrically dead. Thus, no flashers, no lights whatsoever. This is a worst case scenario, and you don't have time to really think, but in hindsight, i do feel you. Anything to save a most beautiful, precious life. Why couldn't it have the been the worst of us that left that night?
Especially if her car was stranded going downhill. For sure that would be hard to see. I’ve seen many accidents like these so I know to exit that vehicle right away. I could also see their perspective, thinking that other cars will see them and assuming they r going to be safe in the car.

This Soul reminds me of the incident that happened with my daughter some years ago and your daughter looks like my daughter when she was 21 her car stalled on the Lodge Freeway, while waiting for us to come assist her she was hit by another car luckily she survived my deepest condolences to you and your family

My vehicle stalled on me when I was in my teens so I called my parents. They told me to put on my hazard lights, get out of the vehicle & put some distance between myself and the car until the tow truck arrived. Luckily, I listened because 10 minutes later a box truck slammed into the back of my vehicle which knocked it out of the shoulder and forced it down into a rocky ravine. My vehicle ignited on impact when it hit the rocks on the side of the ravine. The driver of the box truck was sent to the hospital where he reportedly told police he was getting tired so he pulled over to take a nap and didn't realize a vehicle was already in the shoulder. The police told my parents the guy was frantic because he thought he killed someone. All this to say, this occurs more often than people realize so NEVER sit in a stalled or broken down vehicle because it's not safe. A lot of people get behind the wheel & drive mindlessly, operating on autopilot. I feel so sorry for this family especially her brother who had to experience such trauma. Also, the driver of the SUV has to live with the fact he took a life. One tragic incident impacts so many. RIP beautiful 💛
