you are so right about the "old dubai" area. I was in Dubai last week and I went to the area by the Creek, near the Dubai museum and really enjoyed the quietness and real locals (of course 80-90% are migrants) living their normal lives. I passed by a barbershop and got a haircut for 10AED (US$3) and it was the best haircut ever!

I went to some of those places you went to recently. I'm going back on February to see more sights. I love Dubai. Especially Old Dubai. You should see the Gold Souk at Deira 😎
Actually Dubai's history - specifically in the Old Dubai area - goes back to the 3rd Century A.D., as part of the Sassanian Empire. The first mention of Dubai in historic documentation was in 1095 - and before it became wealthy from tourism and oil, Dubai was growing rich off of pearl diving as far back as the 16th Century. :D
Old Dubai is basically little India (and Pakistan) and the creek and it's markets are tourist traps. Are you talking about Emiratis or life long expats when referring to local culture? Not same same. The Al Dhafra Camel Festival out in Madinat Zayed would have been more along the Emirati culture spectrum. Some of those streets in your video are fairly new intended to help boost tourism. You could've easily toured the whole country in 2.5 weeks. The mountains in RAK, the beaches in Fujairah, the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi and of course the many little towns in between.
Thats not true. The streets and buildings near the creek are the old houses for our grandfathers. It's just been slightly modified so that it can be preserved for years.
Old suuq is the best part of dubai I visit there every time I go dubai. I don't go on hoilday to see the skyscraper but the local cultures this is the beauty of dubai

I'm Filipino, born and raised in Dubai for 26 years, just left there 2015. My mom raised me alone as a secretary, life was tough, but I love the place. The culmination of all the different traditions, races, cultures and food is amazing. Whoever has had a tough time there probably can't appreciate what there is and instead focuses on what there isn't. Life is tough everywhere, but if you learn to absorb whatever a place can offer, you will always learn things other people can't.

She doesn't have to lie about local shop salespeople being aggressive. She told Colinabroadcast the same thing about Istanbul. They are very calm there. Totally false information.
I actually told Colin that the shopkeepers in Istanbul were NOT aggressive, as he said in his video. In the area I walked around in for this video, some of the shopkeepers were aggressive. Two of them stepped in front of me and when I tried to walk away, saying I am not interested, they put their arms out and would not let me pass, yelling in my face. Another looped a scarf around my neck as I walked away and yanked me backward, lightly choking me! I'd say that that's pretty aggressive. I'm not saying that they were dangerous, they just wanted to get my attention in the hopes that I would buy something, which is fine. But those methods are pretty aggressive.
