Thank you! My uncle had a car swipe the front side of his Prado, and every time he stopped at a stop sign the front sensor would constantly go off, driving him crazy. He called Toyota and they wanted to charge a "Diagnostic fee" of AUD$130. We jumped into the car, went to settings, then using the arrows on the wheel found the parking icon sensor and switched it off - it is on page 82 of the Prado Manual. Thank you. I put a cargo box at the back of my Venza and was a pain reversing with the brakes suddenly getting activated. Deactivated the motions sensors after watching this video.

Thanks Steve, we have a 2012 Highlander in New Zealand, and I had never heard the parking sensor go off, but had my teen age son sitting in the front seat and must have bumped the sensor on. Initially when it started going off I thought it was some sort of engine alarm but notice it only going off while close to anything in the front of the car. After watching your vid was able to locate the very small on/off for sensor under the steering wheel. Its now off again. Thanks again, money some money having to take to Toyota dealership

I was wondering about this. I live in Israel so we get very different ranges for each of the Toyota models from those in America or the UK. I know because I rent Toyotas whenever I'm in the UK every year. Some features we get in Israel across the full range which are only available on the higher ranges in other countries. Unfortunately it also works the other way and all but the top ranges in Israel are missing features which are standard in the UK and US across most of the range.
An example is the Parking Sensors / Proximity sensors. I used to have a 2019 Prius. It did not have front Proximity Sensors but did have Rear Proximity sensors. This was very useful when I was backing out of a parking space into the road when a Van or Minibus had parked beside me, blocking my view. If a person, bicyclist or vehicle was just about to cross the back of the car as I was reversing out, it would peep, warning me. The Prius did not have Front Parking Sensor but I never missed it.
In August I "upgraded" to a Rav4 model "E-Experience". This is the middle of the range Rav4, a 4x2 Hybrid. Certainly not the basic level.
(First of all, the driver's seat is really basic with no lumbar support. (The Prius' seat was excellent with every feature). The Rav4 seat either pushes into your upper back or if you adjust the back, you end up with a dip at the base of your spine).
My Rav 4 comes with Front parking sensors but no Rear Sensors!!! That means that if I'm parking forward and there is a tree even 2 metres away, the car starts beeping like a Meshugah showing a graphic in the display! However, when I'm backing out of a blind space, NOTHING! I really miss the back sensor that my old Prius has. It's a shame Toyota don't insist on more uniformity across countries.

I have a 2022 Tundra Crewmax. I had it serviced July 2024 and they rebooted system. For 2 years, I had the parking assist feature turned off bc I need to pull very close to front wall in garage. For 2 years, the front camera worked flawlessly. After reboot, front camera only works when parking assist in "on". Back-up camera has always worked regardless or parking assist. Yes, the incessant beeping while pulling into garage might be there to stay.

Hi Steve I have a 2008 sequoia and it was beeping when parking but now that feature is turned off. I can’t figure out how to turn it back on or if it was all in my mind. It’s an sr5 and I’m not sure if the sensors are included. But I swear I heard them before
Steven I vaguely remember the Toyota sales man telling me it will brake automatically, but didn’t know clearly. So I like on a hill private road and park in front of my driveway. So I’m parking my Highlander Platinum 2020 and backing up I hear the alert beeping but I thought I had enough space still and all of sudden the car Brakes a big RED BREAK SIGN displays on screen. I thought I hit the pole, get out and See I didn’t because of the automatic 🛑 it’s a great safety feature! But jarring at first when it happens! (Sorry for the long story😣)
it does startle you if you are not ready for it but the alternative is worse. the most startling spot is pulling into a cloth car wash

Can you tell me where to turn on parking sensors on the highlander 2020. My display doesn't show the P on the page you show on this video. I just had some maintenance done and I backed into some bushes because my sensor didn't go off. I rely on it ALL the time.
I have to turn off the parking collision when I have my hitch mounted bike rack attached. The temporary silence doesn't always turn off the parking collision and it will slam on the brakes anyways.

We just bought an older 2016 Toyota Tundra SR5. Is it possible they put two on the back bumper and wired them but no way to turn on? The spot you showed in this video in the 2016 car, that has a blank spot. We can feel they are wired on the back bumper but no way to turn on. 😡

The reverse sound is for safety

@@stevenwelchtoyota I also have a 2021 Venza. Last Friday I took the car into the dealer for a recall (22TA03 - Vehicle Stability) . I noticed today that the backup camera activates, but does not beep when I get close to an object. What could have caused that? I have another appointment at the dealer for them to look at the issue, but appointment is a week away.

I happen to have Toyota yaris 2021 model but the trim level i have doesn't have parking sensors installed in them. Higher trim levels, however, do have built in parking sensors that connect to the multi information display in the Optitron meter and show where the obstacle is while parking. Would it be possible for me to install after market sensors in the car and then somehow connect them with my car's multi information display unit so I can see the obstacles on my screen.

I have just added a trailer hitch for a bike rack on a 20/20 Toyota RAV limited all wheel drive.
I would like to know how I could disengage the automatic rear brake action while the bike rack is on the vehicle. Then when the bike rack is taken off the vehicle do I have to physically engage it again and how do you do this

There could be alot of problems but most likely 1 of the sensors is bad

Hi Steve do you know how to turn them on/off in a Toyota Proace van ? I’ve just picked one up and the rear sensors aren’t working. There’s a switch in the back but it doesn’t seem to be doing anything. Cheers. Brad :)
switch should be on the dash or it could have a setting in the menu on the screen in the settings mode of the center of the cluster

The only way to turn it off is to plug it in. There is not a volume control

For my 2016 rav 4 when I click the button to turn it off it automatically turns on whenever there is an obstical I have to turn it off at every traffic light and it turns on non stop

Do the parking sensors detect if you are pulling forward into a parking spot and you turn the wheel too soon so the side of your car will hit the corner of the car next to the spot? Will it warn for that?

What I wasn't aware until today, the reverse sensor. When you get too close to an object the alert sound, the problem is is that you can hear it outside of the vehicle. Wasn't aware that's annoying. Wish there was a way I could turn that off while still having the alert

I have a ‘23 Sequoia Capstone. I’ve turned off the LTA, PCS, BSM, RCTA, RSA, and Parking sensor but it still locks the brakes when backing a trailer. Even on straight backs, I’ll get a tone and the brakes lock up. What did I miss?

Are you talking about a the sensor alarm or an alert that you hear when a truck backs up?

Does 2022 Corolla Hybrid have this? My reverse sensor only works when there is a person standing behind but not if there's another car or rock? Is there something I need to enable?
You have rear cross traffic alert not rear parking sensors

I have a question. I have a Highlander limited 2021. When I would backup in a space, it showed the yellow and red lines.. it would beep when I got close to the curb. Now it doesn’t, do you happen to know why or have heard of this?

@@stevenwelchtoyota I do not see a diamond. I checked and I do see the lines that move. I brought my car in for service and the guys said there isn’t anything wrong with it. But I know that the lines (red and yellow) would beep when I got closer

I have 2020 outlander. The brakes were changed. The parking brake is staying engaged. It drives but it won’t stop beeping. It says parking brake services required. Help!
If you pull up and hold the parking button it may help that. It is meant to override the button.

There are several that have it and all use the same icon
My parking sensors are driving me mad and constantly turning them off to prevent the constant flow of useless and distracting information is a bad solution. It detracts from the driving experience. Maybe it's best to just let automakers know that consumers are unhappy about these questionable safety features.
You may have a bad or damaged or covered sensor. They tend to be really reliable. Make sure nothing is in front of them and they dont show signs of damage
