"Yes when he has assembled the field that can defeat him."
Paraphrase of La Cid after each of her world records. She always claims to have just barely won.
"One mistake. One moment of self doubt. Only, a split second of none composure. One deviation in the lane. One missed timed stride led to 50.36. I am slowly, incrementally, creeping my way to a sub 50 😢" She says.
Today, unlike yesterday, world record fields lead to individual world records.
Push him pull him...run past him. Great commentary and analysis leads to great outcomes.
Thank you for highlighting the exploits of each fan's local, national, hometown hero.

You said everything I would have said about this race. I love all middle distance events but I started paying special attention to the men's 800m back on June 2nd when Djamel Sedjati took the WL in 1:43:23 storming past the rest of the field on the home straight. I'd been vaguely aware of Sedjati and was looking forward to seeing him race again when Wanyonyi clocked sub 1:42 at the Kenyan trials 2 weeks later. The Paris Diamond league became the event to watch with both Sedjati and Wanyonyi in the race, and the rest is history. I had my money on Sedjati for the Olympics because he ran the Paris and Monaco DL sub 1:42 back to back in the same week, but I always knew Arop and Wanyonyi would be in the mix so it wasn't a surprise to see them in the lead. I really thought Sedjati's kick had deserted him when I watched the Olympic final, and he said in the post race presser that his legs were tired after the rounds, so I was shocked to see the times for Wanyonyi and Arop were even faster than those set in the Diamond Leagues. Just one of the greatest 800m races of all time after Rudisha's WR run.

I love your videos! I think there is a minor mistake in the narration here. You say there are 4 runners coming in with bests under 1:41. However, the right bit there is 4 runners coming in with bests under 1:42. Incredible stuff either way, but good to get it right there. The list image there has it right; it's just the narration that's a tick off.

This was similar to the 100m finals. Everyone was putting their best foot forward. Personal best and national records. Amazing race! They are all champions! Unlike the 10,000m, 5000m, and sometimes the 1500m, which can be very boring and slow at times due to tactical racing. No wonder why Usain Bolt is the greatest! He sets records when it matters the most!
