Their songs still give me a lump in my throat. I was in Jr. High with a really heavy crush on a girl who only wanted me to be a "friend". She once asked me, in tears, to tell another boy that she really loved HIM! Oh well. Eventually I found true love with another!

That's because Jerry Lewis was a total a-hole behind closed doors. All throughout his 35 year marriage to his first wife Patti Palmer (the mother of his six sons) he openly cheated on her with dozens of women and was emotionally abusive to her and their sons. All of Lewis's children and grandchildren from his first marriage were excluded from inheriting any part of his estate when he died in 2017. PS - This appearance of the group was very nicely done with both the comedic intro from Gary's father (whose very funny films many of us loved) and the addition of the cute kids into the segment. Thanks for posting for all of us to enjoy!
I had no idea that this was his son! But like all the others here I know Jerry treated his kids horribly I'm really glad to see that this guy was able to do something a little different and have fun at it

I liked G. Lewis & the Playboys in the mid 1960's. I recall hearing on AM radio that Gary went to Vietnam. I give him credit- The band suffered as a result.
I remember hearing this song on the radio and loving it. This is a cute piece. Funny how "clown" is in the title, and his Dad is known for being a clown of comedy.
Looks like we're about the same age. I was 10 yrs old in 1965. This was about the time I started listening to rock n roll. Love to be a kid again. Loved this song.
Some people are saying that Jerry didn't support his Son's act but he had him in several movies, on the Telethon, here on Hullabaloo, and in other ways. According to Wikipedia he is still performing at 77.
RAEL - It's a fact that Jerry didn't support Gary's MUSIC career, despite early appearances. There's plenty of information out there on this... and also about Jerry *intentionally* not leaving any inheritance to his sons. Look it up. Jerry was an a**hole in real life.
@@60s70sVintageRock I did look it up and you're right....he specifically wrote in his will that he didn't want his previous kids to get anything. I can't imagine why he would do that. Sounds pretty bad....without knowing his relationship with his adult kids. Maybe they turned into reprehensible people against his wishes. Hard saying. But it also says that he supported Gary early on. He had parts in some of Jerry's movies. And on the Telethon and Hullabaloo and so forth. He got a lot of boost in the early days.
It's a strange World back then when you have a legendary comedian introducing his Son who is more popular with the teens then his Dad and by the way the songs are catchy as hell.......
Gary is still and well. He lives about 20 minutes from my house in upstate NY. And he is still playing live shows . ( mostly in Vegas I think ) I’m surprised most also had no idea that was Carl Radle on bass . After all , he played on Layla etc. with Derek and the Dominos . Not ever a cool band , but they sure had some cool hits back when rock was more simple and fun .
Bruce, That's very interesting. That band was really hot in the mid sixties with a string of hits. I thought they were great and as a youngster they were my favorite band at the time.
I Saw him interview on local Rochester NY TV a couple of years ago and I think he lives in Penfield or Irondequoit. A suburb but not sure. I was surprised to know cause over the years I lived in both areas.
I met him after a concert in Cobleskill NY. He and the Playboys performed at the local fair. He was so personable and very down to earth. It was a very enjoyable evening. I am not quite as old, but still a senior citizen. Everyone danced and had a fantastic evening. Certainly would be enjoyable to see him again.. I always enjoyed his music! 👍🙂👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Prior to serving his country in Vietnam, Gary Lewis for a short time, a year or two, led the United States in sales of records beating the Beatles, and Elvis Presley!
The drumming definitely sounds like *Mr. Hal Blaine* himself. I can tell his style from a mile away. Jazz Drummer who loved Rock n Roll. I'm sad to say that I just looked it up and discovered that the Legend Hal Blaine literally just passed away 2 months ago! 3/11/2019 😔 He is the one who literally COINED the phrase *"The Wrecking Crew"* and had 35,000 sessions under his belt. RIP- Legend Hal Blaine.
My father used to watch Jerry's kids when they bowled Junior leagues at Hollywood Bowl. Jerry would just drop them off out front and not come in. Their mom would come to pick them up. She would talk to my dad until they were done and ready to leave. He said she was a very nice lady. Always asking how they were doing and behaving themselves.

The group was one of only two acts during the 1960s whose first seven releases on the Billboard Hot 100 reached that chart's top 10 (The Lovin' Spoonful was the other). The singles were "This Diamond Ring" (No. 1), "Count Me In" (the only non-British Commonwealth record in the Hot 100's Top 10 on May 8, 1965, at No. 2[6]), "Save Your Heart for Me" (No. 2), "Everybody Loves a Clown" (No. 4), "She's Just My Style" (No. 3), "Sure Gonna Miss Her" (No. 9), and "Green Grass" (No. 8). PS - This appearance of the group was very nicely done with both the comedic intro from Gary's father (whose very funny films many of us loved) and the addition of the cute kids into the segment. Thanks for posting for all of us to enjoy!
musicandmovieguy55 reviewer Thank you for commenting!
I had no idea that this was his son! But like all the others here I know Jerry treated his kids horribly I'm really glad to see that this guy was able to do something a little different and have fun at it
Not ashamed to say i love these guys.
Why should you be? The music is simply good.
I’d like to thank all who enjoy these songs! You guys are nice! People on Twitter aren’t nice like those of us discussing music! So thank you!💋💋💋💋💋😘😘😘😘
I liked G. Lewis & the Playboys in the mid 1960's. I recall hearing on AM radio that Gary went to Vietnam.
I give him credit- The band suffered as a result.
Such a great song! Love it.
Love Gary's face expression of the little girl. 🤣 😆
This diamond ring❤️
Thanx Gary and Jerry for everything, the music and movie ,entertainment industry would have been nothing without you
Gary Lewis and the playboys was my absolute favorite band in the day.
I loved Gary Lewis growing up
I never knew this was Jerry's son . you learn some thing new every day !
His son had talent.
His father was such a prick to Gary and the rest of the family
Gary is still and well. He lives about 20 minutes from my house in upstate NY. And he is still playing live shows . ( mostly in Vegas I think ) I’m surprised most also had no idea that was Carl Radle on bass . After all , he played on Layla etc. with Derek and the Dominos . Not ever a cool band , but they sure had some cool hits back when rock was more simple and fun .
Bruce, That's very interesting. That band was really hot in the mid sixties with a string of hits. I thought they were great and as a youngster they were my favorite band at the time.
Carl played with Clapton as Derek and the Domino's bass player? Didn't know that.
Takes me back to my childhood summers when this and music like this would be playing on the transistor radios.
This is the cutest video ever, the little girls are adorable, lol, he wanted cute girls and he sure got them..lol
Gary Lewis is the best singer performer He is my favorite singer God bless you all Gary
Oldie but Goodie.
A song to make you feel good.🙃
Love this. Gary Lewis & The Playboys are legends.
Prior to serving his country in Vietnam, Gary Lewis for a short time, a year or two, led the United States in sales of records beating the Beatles, and Elvis Presley!
ALL their songs were heartfelt, wonderful.
I love this group. We always play their song in the jukebox near our school.
I love Jerry, so naturally funny. Yes Gary Jr had added smiles to the world. The world is insane now, even crap music.
He is the one who literally COINED the phrase *"The Wrecking Crew"* and had 35,000 sessions under his belt.
I used to love this fantastic singer and band since i was a kid, 11 y/o then. Til now i enjoy listening their wonderful song. " autumn" & many others.💕💕
This video look so cool, what a time period, to live in.
The little girls looked so cute in their dresses 👗 and white gloves.
This was from sometime in 1965 or '66. Hullabaloo was on NBC at about the same time that Shindig was on ABC. The latter was in black & white, though.
@@KeithE4 See info under video...it's from '65. And yes, it's from Hullabaloo.
omg!gave me goosebumps so many wonderful memories for me. thank you for posting this !!
@duke tobias You're welcome, thanks for watching!
My favorite song in my year where the people is happy😁😍😊
"Is he anybody?" What a doll!♥️
Adorable little girls!
8). Lewis was drafted into the U.S. Army in January 1967, with previously made recordings continuing to reach the Hot 100 but with decreasing success.
Adoro essas músicas. Gary Lewis e sua banda hoje me faz recordar os melhores tempos da minha juventude b
Well 1965 I’m only 8yrs.old but I already listening and love of Gary Lewis & the Playboys because of my uncle on that time he got a lot of vinyl records. Now I’m 62yrsold I still listening.
Ok I was 6 in '65 and I'm 62 now soon on less than 2 months will be 63. So how were you 8 years old in '65 and 62 now? You were either 6 born in '59 like me or born 8 born in '57 and either 64 or going on 65 now.🤔
