Your footage is way more cinematic than Camera Conspiracies... by far. Goes to show how much a tripod counts for that.

@@jamomorrissey Great framing and you found the moment while getting focus. Better than me, for sure.

I think the reason the S5 has poor quality is mainly because it's line-skipped and not really designed for slow-motion. Concerning TOPAZ, I have to wonder if it would be better to shoot at the frame rate that the camera was design for at 30fps and slow it down with TOPAZ. versus upscaling. I've tried both, neither are great solutions. Still, I like the footage you got.

Thanks for taking the time to do the test shoot and posting the video, James. I think that the 120fps HD out of the s-series of cameras is supposed to be noticably better than 180fps HD (if I recall correctly) so if you have time, you MIGHT want to try that upscaling from 120fps HD to 4K and see the results. (Of course, 120fps isn't 180fps. but it is still pretty darn slow.) I thought that in the footage you presented, a lot of the subject looked "good enough," but the out-of-focus motion (like the waterfall in the background at 7:28) was pretty harsh (it reminds me of the 1080p from my Sony a6500, which best as I can tell, is probably only 720p that is upscaled in-camera to 1080p).

I guess I went for 180fps to really test the plug-in. I’ll definitely be doing more topaz videos, so I could also try the 120fps on the S5. Thanks for the comment

Would have liked to have seen a side by side, with and without the topaz upscale. Regardless, the footage looks good on a 4k TV too 👍🏻

Thanks for the comment. Yeah will definitely get another video up showing the differences.

@@jamomorrissey as you say it’s not perfect. I spotted some artefacting (don’t know how else to describe it) on the blue jacket when one of the lads walked past. I also think a few scenarios helped here, such as a lot of the forest maybe masking any upscale issues, but it still looked fantastic and has actually made me consider doing a bit more VFR shooting on my S5

@@fullcirclegla Yeah there’s a few things to note about the software, but overall it’s a good tool. Glad I’ve inspired you to do some VFR! Happy shooting.

I suggest you try the pixel to pixel sensor readout mode. It will give the lens more reach by cropping in, i.e. longer foal length. Amazing film!

I believe 150fps has a significantly better quality! (maybe as good as 24p??) Good job on the footage!

Topaz wortks well but is super slow even with 40 series cards. I would not use for any video over 8min unless it was a paid project that would justify dedicating a computer for hours or rendering.
At the end of the day the S5 and even the S5II are not slow motion cameras. If My clients started asking for this I would get second MFT camera for this.
All that said the results do look good so nice to know that in a pinch I can use Topaz. It really is a great app just a little ahead of it's time and hardware needs to catch up. I think when the 60 series cards come out Topaz will rocket to stardom.
