My retraction video brought with it many comments of how everyone plays this riff. How do YOU play it?

15 levels of the Lil Wayne solo please.
David RF lmao
it's too hard
not enough levels to fully understand it
David RF level 15 is past human understanding, it would be pointless
More like 321 levels of lil Wayne’s solo
How about “The 85 LEVELS of Nothing Else Matters (Intro)
You only need 1 for that song, after that nothing else matters.
The-Art-of-Guitar damn. I saw that coming from a mile away.
When it comes to Metallica puns nothing’s off the table. ;)
Sad but true.
Stop leaving stuff on James. Plenty of other tables to go around.
My mind is blown! =D Level 6 did the trick for me! Just discovered your channel last year, you have so many cool videos!
guess me playing it chord-style all these years makes me either level -1 or 7... i always octaved the open e and g strings to sound fuller. then i got a 12 string and it sounds like i'm playing four guitars at the same time. still find it hard to believe that james plays it with that fingering, but i checked and it's really true.
I honestly didn't think the extra string was going to give that effect, really cool, now I gotta try it myself.
Level 8 : Overplay it in guitar stores .
Level 9 : Let Metallica over play it in concerts .
Level 10 : Play it in front on angry Russians and win their hearts
Level 11 : Let lars ruin it 《as always》
Shrijan Pandey Oh the Lars is a bad summer thing again.....SNORE
Actually, master of puppets is their most played song.
Shrijan Pandey that's what I already do

We are not angry. Not always..
Just discovered you and instantly subbed. Finally someone talking about different levels of playing without being a jerk about players who aren't in a high skillgroup yet. Just compassion and niceness. Great job, dude!
The tommy pic made me forget what the video was about
Namekian Jedi Wait, there's something else in the video?
Namekian Jedi where?
Background on the book?
I'd personally like to see the "Under the Bridge" verse being broken down like this.
I'd like to see Master of Puppets or Sunshine of Your Love.
I'm a bass player, why am I here
Hey Desmond i thought you were on the moon
IM A FREAKING PIANO PLAYER (and not even a good one) WHY AM *I* HERE
Coz deep inside, you know guitar is better (no offence, just a joke, I value bass!)
Davie504 would be disappointed in you and call the police.
@@aaproductions1117 I know right😂😂😂 I'm a violinist.
7 levels of sweet child o mine

I will literally get cancer
Temazo
Whole Lotta Love next!
Flo Ryan idk if he could do that. I've only seen it played one way. Although I'd love to see Heartbreaker.
yep
Yes yes yes!!
Idk, I see a lot of players not play the open D string with the fretted and slightly bent D on the 5th string. It makes the riff to me because of the tension of the slightly bent note ringing with the stationary open string sounds cool. I can't see there being six levels to the riff though!
That's a fckin sexy guitar!
Her name is Nancy, after Nancy Wilson.
Ouuhh! That's nice
The-Art-of-Guitar
My aunts name is Nancy Wilson. I also have an aunt named Ann Wilson. They aren’t sisters though.
Level 7 is playing levels 1-6 on a 7 string by fretting the 5th fret on the low B.
Level 8 is playing levels 1-7 with hybrid picking.
Level 9 is playing levels 1-8 on a fan-fret 9 string tuned to drop E, playing the bass and guitar parts at the same time.
...with only up-strokes.
9 string in "standard" goes lower than Bass E. An 8 string in drop E is what you probably meant
The 180 levels of voice of the soul
lol fkn true!
yes
Oh my gosh 😂 this comment
Hell yeah!
DEATHH
Love the series!!!!! Keep it up
Just found your channel a couple days ago. Love this “Levels” series!

Your attention to detail is admirable and awesome. Thank you for your efforts. May you have one million subscribers.
I love so much this kind of videos and I found it really unique, please keep doing this lml
Mind. Blown. Love you series bro!
I'm loving this series, bring Sunshine of Your Love next if there even are more levels to it, would love to see it.

All your videos are like ASMR.. I really enjoy watching and listening to them
Really cool guitar, man!
You do a good job of explaining things I enjoy your videos thanks for sharing
I'm a bad guitar player and I really enjoy these little tid bits like that double note part at the end really got mind going seeing how I love that stevie style guitar play! Thanks for the videos this is my favorite series on your channel!
Because of the thumbnail, I thought the hardest version would be played on a massive guitar and you would have to stretch your arms out in order to play it
These videos are next level.
I really enjoy these “next level” vids. Iron Man?
I'd love to see a Holy Wars video. Mustaine recently made a comment about how basically everyone has been playing it wrong forever
I already did a Megadeth video and covered that.
The-Art-of-Guitar I hadn't seen that, thanks!
Link please.
Searching is soooo hard.
Thanks for these videos man I've had a lot of different jobs and with a bad disability on my right leg it's hard to do manual labor at 32 with the young family to provide for with no education. Not a lot of opportunity here either. I have three students now and have made a side income playing guitar I already had the skills I just needed to unleash them. Currently I am memorizing terminology. Thanks again. Your channel has helped me on more than one occasion.
Coarse effect rules - sound is amazing.
Thanks for all the levels. It sounds way better than open strings now.
Master of Puppets would be great for the next one ! Or maybe some Iron Maiden, nice video as always :)
The 7 levels of Kashmir.
רואה את השם שלך ומתלהב
Level 8 give it to India ( sorry bad joke) 😂
Led zeppelin
Hell yeah :)
@@Beyking1234 Kashmir is Indian bro , Pakistan has occupied illegally
Thank you so much I upgraded my playstyle !!! It's gonna work out pretty good for our band
Thanks for this!
Thanks Mike!
Last night when i was going to sleep i was thinking about the different ways of the intro of enter sadman. Thanks man.
Awesome video
Love it!
I think this videos seris is gonna go a long way :D
Btw can you do one for master of puppets?
That's a very lovely Jackson you got there !
Thunderstruck next time
Second, third and fourth that. Love this series and vids in general!
I love the cherry blossom decal
Sameee
Good video!
Very interessing series
Awesome guitar design
If you ever get a chance to meet James you should tell him you found an easier way to play it! Lol lol. Love the videos man!
That is a nice Jackson!
Level One was the first thing I ever learned on guitar
Apiarist Scrawl me too dude
same, first riff I ever actually played correctly
well not correctly but you get the idea
The 2 LEVELS of Creeping Death
Level 1: Not playing it
Level 2: Playing it
Only a big man can admit that he made a mistake. Great job.
The world needs more people like you.
I love your videos. You are a great instructor,.
Nice!
Dude how did u get such a great tone?
Can we just talk about how great of a teacher he seems to be (and most definitely is) ?
Do a 7 levels video on the opening intro riff to sweet child o mine
Artofguitar
!Surprise! James recorded it using all those techniques.
I like the way it sounds at the top of the neck😝
Iam about to to collect my guitar and have never played beforevand i like your videos
I’m just watching and learning from these guitar videos before I get one lol.
Back in black?
Funny things is, when i began playing guitar - and began learning this song, I thought that this is SO HARD TO PLAY. Just because i was trying to play it the fourth way. Also good vid buddy :)
Awesome guitar, man! Good video too. I gave up on Sandman in my early days cuz I never could figure out what I was missing, and all the 5 star tabs in the world didn't help. Now I kinda feel like an idiot, haha.
You should do the levels of Unholy Confessions
Zombie KidGamer yessss
Yeah, I always hoped that a video like this would be released, so every new modern guitarist will know the correct way to play this amazing song. I have seen many videos, tutorials but all of them seem wrong to me. My biggest question is:" Is Zacky hitting the bottom dropped D string muted and alternate pick or he just muted the A string and everything is picked downstroke ?"
Hellll yeah
James R I've wondered that myself! Personally, I usually mute the drop D with 2 down strokes. Feels alright to play but I'm by no means saying it's the correct way. Give that a try if you haven't already :-)
YESSSSS
That guitar looks amazing.
Where did u get the guitar? Or is it costume?
Would you be interested in doing a Levels video on a riff or two from TOOL? I think that there's more there than what meets the eye for some songs.
6th level sounds amazing
Can you do the 7 Levels of When i Come Around by Green Day I feel like it would be perfect for the little series you're starting
Really appreciate your efforts across all songs so far. Sandman level 7 - simply use open A. It’s far easier on the fingers (like all the highest levels incidentally). Thanks
Idk how I got here but damn I really like your guitar
His voice is so soothing
Using the middle and pinky fingers is something I like to do in the Simple Man turnaround riff to fret the G power chord while keeping my index finger in place for the E instead of just playing a single open E.
Loving this series! Do a blink 182 riff please, perhaps feeling this🙏🏻
Would love a Neil Young Artist series vid!
How about the three hundred million levels of Mark Knopfler's solos
Your right..... I learned most of what I know by ear, and I always though that sounded the closest.
In the live video you reference it looks to me as if Hetfield does indeed occasionally hit the open G if you watch his right hand. Also later in the song he also plays it down at the first two frets. So thanks for all this analysis. I think its all 'valid'.
WAY TO GO
Great explanation and breakdown. I'll probably take advantage of the open G version rather than play it the real way. The sustain on the open string sounds good.
That Jackson guitar is beautiful is it a custom/one-off?
Wow 3 vids on this riff! Great quality nevertheless.
Levels of can't stop
That's a beautiful guitar, may I ask what's model?
Samir Fersobe hss jackson
The next riff with steps should be Owner Of A Lonely Heart check it, it gets complicated and watching it live clears some missconceptions
Sick Jackson, I've been playing for years but only as a passing hobby ( pick it up for a week put it back down for a bit) and these videos have helped me want to keep picking it up everyday. I noticed you had a bit of that fret rattle noise and I have it as well. Is there a way to get rid of that?
I just had to get mine set up again. This northern weather is a killer.
Interesting and educational as always. Yet another fine video. But do I hear strings buzzing on the frets of that Jackson? It seems the action is a bit too low, or the frets might need levelling.
Yeaaaaaaah
Nice Jackson
The fret buzz makes me cry
Could be wrong, but the reason James plays it the way he does is all about conservation of energy - it allows you to play everything much faster by positioning your fingers like this, and, because so much of his music is played at breakneck, he is simply used to finger positions that lead to quicker access to other parts of the fretboard. In essence, it’s the same principal as the spider chord. So James plays it this way because of Dave Mustaine...
I just started learning this and I heard the ringing G but the open G didn't sound right on my guitar so I tried it down lower but that isn't how Hetfield plays it. I noticed Hetfield doesn't move his finger on the G and E and I tried that but then I somehow played the level 6 you show here by accident and that's the best sound.
Would be really awesome if you make a X levels of Stairway to Heaven, those videos are so helpful !
