U87ai still the king. Still the TLM67 is a stunning mic and for 800€ less. BTW: what shockmount are you using with the TLM67? Is very similar to the used for '47 type mics and I've been searching for something good but cheap as I already have an army of shockmounts hahahahah
That's a shockmount for a C12-style Alctron mic. It came with another mic so I'm not sure where to get them. It just barely fits the TLM-67 size body along the taper but it works. I think you can find them for about $40 shipped on Alibaba, not Aliexpress, but Alibaba, bought as a sample from one of the shockmount vendors. I have to track that down at some point and get a spare because they're not premium quality.
The TLM definitely sounds better on your voice than the U87 for the example you gave. I think the 87 might do better on a cinema-style voice over. Take this from someone who recorded and mixed other people's radio voice overs for a decade. I probably only recorded a couple cinema voice overs, so take it with a grain of salt. Nice voice, BTW!
Thank you! I really appreciate you lending your experienced opinion. I get what you’re saying. Lately, I have been using the 87 for narrative work where that extra warmth helps paint that cinematic mood and it’s been great.
What about a U67? Do you have one of those, or was it always TLM67 you’ve used in older videos? I agree with you. I like the 87 better, but the tlm67 has its place.
Are you still running the mt48? I had one very nice but I went back to my Apollo. It was great but I enjoyed the creative process of my Apollo. Great quality test!
different capsules no? I thought the the ai has a k87 and the tlm67 has a k67. I think the vintage u87 had the k67 and they changed it. I might have my history mixed up
I have a Vintage U87 and I can tell you for sure it has a K87 capsule. The U87Ai and TLM67 have what Neumann calls the K870 capsule which is a K67 capsule configured to be put in a solid state mic & powered by phantom power. All 3 capsule are sonically identical, but the K87 in the Vintage U87 is different electronically from the K67 & K870 which results in it having about 10dB less output and 5-6dB more self noise than a U87Ai.
i think the mystery M7 capsule and the Alice circuit sounds better than both these mics, especially in promo spots....... :) My mystery m7 capsule is on its way should be here this week.
Open up that TLM67 and its the most disappointing sight you will ever see in a mic.... like the lights coming on in a dance club and you see what everyone really looks like. Also the tlm67 gets real crunchy with that fake tube circuit Neumann put in. I did not like it at all over my 87. I'd say if you are in that price range already, spend more and get the U87. It's way more useful overall.
LOL, right? It's 80 percent air inside just to get it into the right headbasket and body. I'll tell you though, it's turning out to be a great promo mic. I did an NHL spot on in yesterday that I knew would need a little extra grit on it because it'll probably go on top of a bed with hockey game noise, and it was a much better tool for the task than a 416. The TLM-67 is definitely not a general purpose mic, but I like where it fits into the plan. I think they put the stupid Georg Neumann head medallion on it so people will turn away and not look inside.
Thanks for the shoot out. I own the 67 and had a tube preamp put in it. Changed the game completely. It's become my favorite all around mic
That 67 mod is pretty awesome sounding.
I always feel with the 87 that I’m listening to the mic. With the 67 style mics I feel I’m listening to the speaker.
Interesting observation.
@@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff by speaker, I mean person, as opposed to loudspeaker.

I do not have a u67, but I do have a u67-ish DIY tube mic I call the "Unobtainium" which has not been on camera in quite a while.
@@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff I saw the price tag on the actual U67 and it’s quite insane. I wonder how it measures up to the U87ai

Thank you! Yes, it’s 100 percent MT-48 here now.
Nice I love the openness and clarity it had.
u87ai sound amazing
Yeah, best mic I've ever heard on my voice.
Do you like it better than the u89?
@@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff Did you try the M149 yet? This one might even sound better on your voice.
@@abzee733 I have not. No access to one, unfortunately.
87 has more gravitas. I have an 87 and a u67 and end up using the 87 more often. Could just be it suits my voice better.
I agree. The 87 just has "it" a bit more overall than the TLM.
Is the u 87 ai on the right side of this video?
That is correct. The 87ai is on the right sitting in the Rycote mount.
different capsules no? I thought the the ai has a k87 and the tlm67 has a k67. I think the vintage u87 had the k67 and they changed it. I might have my history mixed up
Actually same capsule. As you could switch headbasket assemblies and pop the TLM headbasket/capsule into the 87 and vice versa.

Theses mics are just two flavors of silky magic and I can't decide which one I like better
You can never have enough silky magic.
As an owner of both, I don’t think the 67 is silky at all, very Smokey in a good way
TLM 67 lo spacca di brutto ,io non mi sbaglio mai 🥰
Si.
There’s it in the studio or Tlm 67, it’s really wonderful ❤
I’d love to see a TLM70 thrown in the mix along with a Manley Reference Cardiod.
Don’t own those so it’s not going to happen.
i think the mystery M7 capsule and the Alice circuit sounds better than both these mics, especially in promo spots....... :) My mystery m7 capsule is on its way should be here this week.
Enjoy that capsule!
def not a fan of the tlm67. proven time and time again on shootouts, and i swiftly returned my loaner which i regret 0%.
As long as you can live a life of 0% regrets.

You bought one to "replace" one but now they end up in bed with each other.
You’re confusing it with my OnlyFans.
TMI, Mark. TMI...!
Or TLM-i
