Frirst time on rock jety (40 yrs ago) I wore sneakers, wached other fishermen wearing socks over sneakers, then nylon carpet glued to sole, which worked quite well, not wanting to tie on crampons, got myself a new pair of golf spiked shoes and exchanged for carbide spikes and nylon carpet. Best combination. Telescopic boat hook, exanged boat hook for a spike and gaff hook, Spike for balance used as walking stick.Ussualy there before sunup, Had to wait for some light before walking on the rocks
Fish Bite like Crazy in Heavy Seas.. Stood on the Venice Fla. Pier at 14 with a Hurricane Coming in and filled a 6 foot stringer with Spanish Mackerel all the way to the Top.. To get from the "T" End of the Pier, I Had to run at the wave (breaking Over the Middle of the Pier) Before the Next Wave Crashed Over to get to the Exit where People and a Cop with a BullHorn were Hollering for Me to Come IN !! .. LOL .. The Cop asked "Are You Crazy??" and I Said .. "Look at this Stringer.. Yes Sir, I'm Crazy about Fishing" .. My Grandma tore my Butt Up, but She Was Proud of That Stringer of Fish !!

I was out there Saturday morning. Only sheepshead were around, and I saw one trout get caught. The guys I saw said it was slow Saturday too. Hopefully soon the jacks will be here!

I have 2 exact setups just like this. Best 300 dollar rod and reel combo for a budget fisherman. I've got large black drum, bull reds and jacks with these setups.
