    The fact that you have a true consist of the Canadian with the way it is layed out just makes me so happy. I cringe at all the other videos I find with cars scattered about through the train in an order that makes no sense. Again what a gorgeous model, and the fact you are personalizing it to your personal adventure on the Canadian makes is even more special. Thanks for sharing this!

      Thanks! It's pretty close, I still have to take the Skylines apart and spin the seating 180 and tint the dome windows. Will be a good winter project.

    When I saw your update,
    I was like “ok I haven’t missed Ben’s updates,
    I just missed them…”
    Great update and taking time with family & kids always takes a priority over a layout. You only spend time with your kids once as they grow up. Man did that ‘75 Honda Trail 90 bring back memories! I still miss my XR 80 and still miss having a bike to ride in the country and on dirt…
    Too many morons hitting guys on the streets for me to ride on paved roads with cars.
    Can’t wait till our vacation plans bring us your way Ben, can’t wait to visit you in the country. Maybe we can go for a ride too?!

    • @BArailsystem
      @BArailsystem  10 месяцев назад

      Thanks for understanding! We have an XR80 too! It's a 1981 and currently my brother is working on getting the top end done. My goal is to have it fixed up for my son when he outgrows his 50. That XR80 is the most bulletproof bike the engine is amazing. It got ran over by a hay truck at one point in its life so it needs so cosmetic work but it still ran like a champ. Valve guides are what finally did it in. You let me know if you find yourself in Western Canada. Cheers!

    Sometimes you just have to step away. Most of the time it yields great results when you go back into the work. No apologies necessary. Your backdrops are a highlight on your layout...really well done. Like the biking clips. Looks like they cross all generations. That hat is cool.

    • @BArailsystem

    Thanks for the update, Grant...but my comment is going to be about the Cockshutt 1955 tractor. That one is a rebranded Oliver 1955. My dad was an Oliver guy, and we had an Oliver 1955 when I was a kid...with cab...it was immediately recognizable, albeit the Oliver was green. Great to see it still in service. Thanks for sharing.

    • @BArailsystem
      @BArailsystem  10 месяцев назад +1

      Haha wow no way! Yes, it actually says OLIVER on the back of the cab. I spent A LOT of hours in that tractor as a kid, it was our primary baling tractor. He still uses it for baling as well as his saw mill. Blows a lot of blue smoke but still getting the job done after all these years.

    Man!! what an ambitious project you have in your basement! I remember that little layout you used to have - about the size of a bed, And then when you moved into your house and started constructing this huge layout in the basement. And you have created the impossible - a pretty good representation of the enormous and spectacular outoors of Canada. I thought that was a big deal at the start and even though I know it still has a long way to go, what an awesome result you have surrounding Banff. Who knew you could pull off the gigantic scenery that Canada is world famous for? You csn almost smell the pine trees. When that other side of the bay is finished it's going to be OUTSTANDING!! You'll walk into that bay following the train around and instantly be transported into the scene that most of us elsewhere in the world (I'm in Australia) have on our bucket lists - to travel across Canada by train. I love how you have resisted the urge to do what most modelers do - build urban landscapes. There's nothing wrong with modeling urban scenes but what a FANTASTIC scene you have built just a few steps down from your kitchen. Congratulations!! And thank you for sharing it with us. - Mike K in Sydney

    • @BArailsystem
      @BArailsystem  10 месяцев назад

      Thanks so much for your support over the years Mike! I really appreciate it. Growing up in Western Canada, 99.9% of the time all you see is a single track and huge sweeping vistas, so that's what I like to model. I've also never been a huge fan of operating or switching so just running a big train and watching it go around the layout is my jam. Again, thanks for all your support. -Ben

    I feel the struggle my friend! As a late 30s Dad with 2 young boys, I often go weeks without even stepping into the layout room, and the few times I do I don’t have the time to commit to a project, so I find myself fiddling with this or just run a train from A to B. My RUclips channel and layout are a fraction of the quality of yours, so my hat’s off to you! Don’t be afraid to post up videos of trains running - not every video needs the full production value… thanks for the update!

    Don’t worry about the lapsed time since your last vid! Understand the level of frustration with any of these platforms. Main thing is the appreciation I feel and want to express for the sharing of your layout build. Absolutely love the progress on the photo backdrops and how you’ve accomplished the different transitions both in colors as in the perception and/or illusion enhancement of the field/feel of depth. Very cool boxcar, love those Budd manors. Cheerio

    If I were you, I SERIOUSLY would look into the effects of painting motorcycle helmets. My understanding (although based on what was certainly true a couple of decades + ago) was that the paint damages the stability of the helmet material, and the risks the helmet merely shattering on impact. However, as said, that was decades ago and may have only been true of solvent based paints, enamels etc that people typically used at the time. If you are using water based acrylics that may not be the case. I don't know, but I would recommend you research this if you have not already. I hope you find more time this winter for your fantastic layout! :)

      Thanks! I haven't used the levelling cultivator too much yet. I spent a week getting the shovels switched around so it will pull evenly. I think it is going to work well for smoothing out our hay ground and following behind the Bobcat when it makes big ruts in the field from doing dirt work. Thanks for the comment. Cheers.
