      Do you think Tim would actually be able to argue on even standing? Not hating on Tim at all, but any of them for that matter don't get into politics like Colin does, and they admit it during this episode.

      probably not but it would be a bit more entertaining than just colin ranting his opinion without any opposition

      Well, you gotta know what you're talking about, otherwise, you're gonna look like an idiot. To his credit, he chimed in a few times like Greg and Nick did.

    It's sad that Colin who is otherwise a perfectly reasonable guy has been indoctrinated into politics that would be "Kinda funny" if they were not so abhorrent. His entire political worldview is that of a relatively wealthy spoilt child that doesn't realize the privileges he's been given and feels entitled judge others based on his limited experience.
    "Quality of American healthcare" Only if you can afford it Colin. Even sillier is the fact that you actually spend more on health care per person than almost any other western country that has socialized medicine and has far worse outcomes.
    Btw the reason the Republicans don't have an alternative to Obamacare is because Obamacare was their plan since the Nixon days. Show just how ideological they have become.

    • @baconbastrd4940
      @baconbastrd4940 7 лет назад +22

      I agree with your points on health care.
      But I respectfully disagree on Colin- I think you are oversimplifying Colin's views and completely alienating valid concerns from those with a worldview that doesn't line up with yours.

    • @mgrimble3975
      @mgrimble3975 7 лет назад +25

      I don't think I'm oversimplifying at all, his libertarian views are pretty well known these days. The vast majority of people with these views tend to be young affluent men from backgrounds affording them a very good education, It's a very selfish worldview in that it assumes the falsehood that we live in a meritocracy, Government is virtually always bad and the Free market will fix everything.

    • @TheVitalover
      @TheVitalover 7 лет назад +4

      How is being a libertarian selfish? You realize that Liberal programs only benefit the minority while drawing from the majority? Ever heard of universal health care, social security, medicare, medicaid, entitlements, and so on. The only way these can be supported is by money from young people PERIOD. And all of this money, taken from young people, goes to elderly people who account for 13% of the population. A libertarian is more concerned about shrinking government for the future not the present. Or are you advocating for over 40% income taxes. If so then give me your bank account, routing number, and name so I can take that money. After all, if you're not selfish what do you have to lose? And if not me, then go give 16.2% of your income to your nearest elderly person until the day they die.
      Eagerly awaiting your response.

    • @mgrimble3975
      @mgrimble3975 7 лет назад +3

      Most of the programs you listed are socialist in nature.
      Secondly, I'll leave this here for you.
      "Libertarianism A political philosophy emphasizing the liberty of the individual, with as little intervention as possible by the state in the affairs of the citizenry (which is why libertarians are at times associated with right-wing politics and at other times with anarchists-see anarchism). The guiding principle of libertarianism is “live and let live”. The term was first used towards the end of the 18th century in debates pitting free will against determinism.
      Note the distinction: liberalism is basically about having individual freedom guaranteed by governments; libertarianism is about having that freedom through as little government involvement as possible."
      Liberalism In politics, the state of being liberal, notably in emphasizing the rights and freedom of the individual, usually with government guarantees for those rights and freedom.
      In addition, the system about which you speak is called Progressive taxation in which those with the most pay to assist those with the least.
      It is how you fund those socialist programs, In most European countries we pay tax and get services such as social security and healthcare of a very good standard. The UK taxes range from 0-45% depending on your income so no a 20% tax rate doesn't scare me as I've paid it for years and do so gladly.

    • @TheVitalover
      @TheVitalover 7 лет назад +2

      Thank you for your definitions but I'm, mostly here to argue about actual policies. The reality is that the NHS ran a deficit of 2.45 billion pounds, a huge increase from the previous year. It has also been recognized that the government cannot save enough money to meet the growing demands from the NHS healthcare system which will need 22 billion pounds by 2020.
      However, the interesting part is that liberal programs like the single payer system, social security, Medicare and Medicaid present a huge dilemma for Americans. In particular, social security presents a big problem because of America's changing demographics. Created by FDR in the mid 1930s the idea was the create a welfare state whereby elderly Americans wouldn't die in poverty. For the sake of simplicity I will make this short.
      It easy for Europeans to criticize American conservatives. The reality is, is that everyday 10,000 Americans are reaching the age of 65 and getting their social security benefits only one year later. This trend will continue until 2030. So every day until 2030 10,000 more people will start getting their social security benefits. Now the interesting part is the number of people who will be getting social security: 89 million by 2050. This is an interesting number for two reasons. One, it is huge! Two, it is larger than Germany which is the largest country in the European Union. This is reality. Young American's will be paying for a group of people larger than any country in Europe. Despite this, you believe you have the right to critique Libertarians who would advocate smaller government and avoid an impending disaster? Additionally, the ratio of people who pay in and take out is shrinking from 2.8 now to 2.1 in the next 20 years. So if you are married and have two children you actually don't: you have three children. One of them is taking your income but they're not there.
      According to the Pew Research Center the average elderly person aged 65 and up in America now will earn an extra $180,000 from Social Security than they paid in. On the other hand, an American born now will lose over $400,000 more than they paid in. This is glorified theft. Isn't liberalism so generous? Driving one generation into poverty because the other is unwilling to make sacrifices regardless of the fact they hold all of the political power, had more time to change the system, and have had more time to save up money. Instead, in order to preserve their own standard of living they are borrowing money and forcing their children or people who aren't even born yet through social security.
      Let's keep going though. According to the Pew Research Center a household headed by someone 35 and under makes 26 times less money than a household headed by somebody 65 and older. Obviously, there should be a distinguishable difference, but simply put 26 times more is too large and unnaturally skewed. It gets better though, young people today have more debt than ever coming out of college and a worse economy to welcome them into the job market. The unemployment gap between 18-24 year old and the overall labor market was the highest in America's history in 2011. On top of that, the median income for people aged 35 and younger has steadily had a decreasing return to scale: it's slowing down. Other demographics are experiencing as much of a slow down. This is very conducive to a health life style wouldn't you agree?
      So no I do not believe that Libertarians are selfish. While I have a different perspective than you, it doesn't make it wrong. Liberalism presents huge risks to everyone in America and is in no way selfless.

    Political commentary is a bit frustrating for me on this show because there's no balance to counter Colin - so it ends up being a one man commentary as the others are understandably not politically engaged. I just want to jump in and present a counter argument to Colin on almost every point. EDIT - His last argument about a temporary protectionist measure for the next couple of decades is fair. I just think it will hurt US economy if other economies move on from the US and move towards China, EU, India, etc as the benchmark during that period who are open to free trade.

    • @Clarkey7163
      @Clarkey7163 7 лет назад +6

      That's true, but I think a lot of folks should be paying attention and watching anyway. I like Colin, he shares different views to me personally and that is GREAT. Too many people, especially folks who are left leaning, live in an echo chamber. Especially on Twitter and definitely in the Gaming industry. Its a really good thing to have someone like Colin, who at least understands his position and is able to reach out and have this conversation.
      Try to branch out and look at opposing views anywhere else and you'll just get alienated. If you want to listen to someone with opposing views, Colin and his political segments are much better than say, going to Fox News and all that.
      Challenge yourself, you have a counter point ton what he says and that's good. When your views are challenged, you step up and defend, when they aren't challenged and you're in a bubble that's when you become ill-informed

    • @michaeldisinger
      @michaeldisinger 7 лет назад +3

      I agree with that assessment. I like that he has differing political opinions and voices them. I just don't like that they aren't contested, as the rest are understandably not interested or knowledgeable on the subject matter. He does have an issue of spouting opinions as facts sometimes, and that is even more frustrating as it's rarely called out on the show.

      Jesus Andrade: It's his personality, dude. I lack empathy for other peoples' opinions but that doesn't mean I don't hear it or try to respond to it. It's just because I, like everyone these days, personally feel that I am right for the most part, and no one is going to change my mind. He's clearly done enough research on his own, and introspected to form his thoughts on things, and it's hard to find someone who wisely challenges your views.

      hanzo plus3 not true..i had this happen to me in 2011,OLVG amsterdam was like,we can't give you a room in the hospital after they (and i) found out my insurance wasn't payed in almost a year.My former employer subtracted the funds for the insurance but didn't actually pay them,while telling me that i had insurance,shady af...sued their asses and got my money back to pay the fine.Back to topic,basically the hospitals only diagnose and perform basic ER stuff like routine checkups like blood pressure,heart rate etc...I know some homeless people and they end up in hospitals a lot because of their living conditions but if they go to a hospital they don't get much help,one of the guys i know his leg is dying off and if he had gotten the help he actually needed when it was only a sprained,infected ankle it wouldn't have gotten that far...

    • @karakuri100p
      @karakuri100p 7 лет назад

      hanzo plus3 yeah it's crazy that money,no matter how much money,is more important to some then their fellow human beings lives..i'll gladly fork over the money if that meant that other peoples living conditions increased ...at least for me it all turned out fine (still sick but i'm still here).One thing Colin is right about is that we can't compare our countries,cause of the sheer size and the amounts of people living there,netherlands is one of the smallest countries in the world...for example Teheran,capital of Iran,is the same size as the netherlands in its entirety

    • @karakuri100p
      @karakuri100p 7 лет назад

      hanzo plus3 i think that ever since the financial crash,people were more involved with themselves then others.And that has had huge repercussions throughout society...remember the song: "vijftien miljoen mensen" from back in the day,i believe it accompanied a commercial as well...basically it was meant to propagate a sense of respect and mutual understanding which can be so hard to find these days...

    • @Dailyblazer19
      @Dailyblazer19 7 лет назад +1

      Donald Anderson no the opinions Colin presents are quite reasonable. It's just that the comments section always breaks down into the most basic of semantics.
      Supplying an economy with a commodity that's already in high use and high demand throughout the rest of the world; alleviating our expenses in regards to Saudi Arabia, making us more economically independent....sounds reasonable to me.
      Defunding one of the most heinous programs in our country whose nearly sole function is to kill children. The other 70% of PP services that are hardly utilized can be rendered by your local physician, or at a hospital that provides installment plans to pay back over time. Not even talking about the ER....again, not unreasonable.
      The Trump administration has their government social media accounts refocus their efforts on fiscal policy instead of hokey climatology. This isn't a crack down on "Climate Change" just focusing on actual problems; even though there are actual climatologists that challenge the assertion that man made climate change occurs, or was it Global warming?? Or Global cooling??? I forget, they've changed the naming convention so many times that "Climate Change" could literally mean anything related to weather phenomena.
      The TPP was a shitty trade agreement to begin with so that point should be self apparent.
      These are points Colin made in a casual and calm manner, but anybody that's an opponent of these beliefs over-exaggerates his role in the discussion because it's the lefts tactic of escalation; to make Colin out as some obnoxious right winger whose ideas are dangerous and antithetical to our country's values when in actuality he was reasonable on every point and even gave himself some leeway to change his stance on these topics if new information ever comes to light.
      But no, fuck Colin because he's wrong on every account and doesn't deserve the opportunity to express his political opinions that I don't agree with. Also fuck Trump bcuz he's a racist, sexist, homophobic, trans-whatever phobic, xenophobic bigot.

      *Adam Booth* The problem I have with their group when it comes to these topics is you never see them doing anything about this. Plenty of people have said something like it must be nice living in their SF bubble, but if they're so passionate about this, I feel like SF is the perfect place to do something about it, yet (it appears as if) they don't and just take Patreon money and sit in their comfy studio. I know they've done fundraisers and that stuff, but why not do a fundraiser or 24 hour thing for Syrian refugees or whatever. I just find it surprising it how political Colin is and doesn't do anything to support what he learned. It's like he learned all this shit for nothing. He speaks so passionately, you'd think he would want to participate and do more than just talk to their fans on the internet. I'm not trying to lump everyone together, but I doubt the majority of KF fans actually do anything politically other than just comment on here and say how uninformed Tim is. I'm not a politically charged person either, but my gf is so I try to be at least aware of what's going on and support her and go with her when she wants to go to marches or whatever. I would love to see KF at a march or protest and get out of their studio once in a while.

    China is implementing Universal Healthcare by 2020 btw Colin. Also how useful is "premium healthcare" when most people don't take advantage of it due to deductibles? The huge advantage of Universal Healthcare is the preventative and proactive care that occurs because the citizens go to the doctor when they suspect something is wrong instead of going when things may be too late. This is why US health system is ranked #37 by WHO.

    For people saying that it's stupid that Colin can just "force" (which he wasnt) his political opinion on the group and not having a debate instead, it's because he actually studies up on this stuff. I'm guessing most of you are liberals who want a fellow liberal to at least debate back, but no one else has given as much time to political studies as Colin has. It's like telling the strongest guy on your sports team to hold back because no one else is quite as strong. If Tim or Kevin studied the political material presented, then hey, go ahead and debate. It's not Tim or Kevin's fault either, no ones forcing them to become philosophers. At least stop yelling at Colin in the comments just because he has a different political view than you do.

There are a lot of things I don't know about, I don't really know that much about how a vehicle works. So, I trust the manufacturer and the technicians, because that is their field. It's not NECESSARILY that the gov't buys your land and kicks you out...often it's that the gov't is essentially buying the "right" to lay pipeline, electrical line, etc., etc. on, under, over, or around your property--but it has to happen one way or another, regardless of where the negotiations go. We all want people to have jobs, but can the private sector absorb let's say half of the federal civilian workforce? That would be a little over 1 million people. I just don't see that many jobs being created by the private sector with the same level of pay and benefits. Like I said I would like to hear more from Colin in particular about that issue. Tim started to bring it up, but dropped it almost immediately.

    I've basically watched the entire video. Before watching it (after reading the comments) I figured Colin was going to be yelling and screaming at everyone. That wasn't accurate. I think it's crazy that people don't want Colin to lead a discussion about Politics. The guy is well informed. He's informed about stuff like natural gas prices in North Dakota--which I am only aware of because I have been looking for work. He's not looking for work and is still informed about smaller details like this.
    People just don't seem to like others who speak authoritatively against their own agenda. Also, people were engaged.
