It's just my opinion... the main critical piece of safety equipment not being used is commonsense! You fell through, your friend fell through, this other guy fell through, it should have been obvious, the ice is not safe!
These guys stop fishing this lake by time it's actually safe, it's fished out. Cuz morons do this on this lake every year. Bend it caused it by making these videos in the first place . He can get bent lol
Thanks for calling it right. The ice is not safe if anyone is falling thru much less several others.
And not one person had a spud with them
Why, no spud bars in use? I don’t even step foot on the ice without my spud.
@@TheFlyerBill
Especially on early ice
Ice picks during ice season should be mandatory just like life vests in a boat. It's the only way some people are ever going to self rescue and they cost about $10
Y’all saved his life! Well done. Look out for each other.
Ty
THANKS for posting this!!!
We can not forget that dead is a very long time! Don't cheap-out and die cuz you didn't drop $12 for safety equipment.
I have 4 sets of spikes and make sure anyone that goes with me early in the season has a set around their neck. I also have 2 throw bags / rope. For the price of one cheap rod/real combo it's nice to have peace of mind. And don't forget the spud bar!
This is a great example of safety gear and how effective it can be spikes save lives . great video and great job
good job!!! like how the sled was used!
So glad you were there to help him. Thank you!!
Stay safe! Happy to see everyone is safe and made it out
A special group of people in that area smh 2 people fall in and y’all continue to fish 🤤
spud bar / ice picks / floating bibs
First time we had to use picks and they helped
I’m lake hopping rn and I drilled a hole and the ice started cracking like crazy! I dipped
Sinking feeling!
Lack of safety gear hurts to see... I have been alone and in that situation to many times to count and that guy is going to have some PTSD 100% from that unfortunately and people need to understand all people don't weigh the same thus not being equal! SPUD BARS SAVE LIVES PEOPLE!
Can’t agree more. Spud bars will either make or break your whole trip. Also ice picks around your neck
I yanked a teen snowmobiler once from where Johnson Brook meets Lake Sunapee, next to Sunapee State beach. Kid tumbled over handlebars into the brook. Completely soaked. 5 degrees out that day. Snowmobile was stuck head first in about 5ft of moving water at the ice line.
Danggggg that's worse!
@Bend It Fishing yeah he could have easily been swept under the ice by the current. Funny thing is that his father came searching for him after we had him warming up in our bobhouse, and the father jumped into the brook and lifted the machine out back onto the ice. He was standing in 5ft of water! Totally bonkers..
Wow that's insane!
Spikes, spud bars and common sense are a must early ice. It's good others were there but if you hadn't been, this man would have drowned. Good on yas!
That’s my hometown lake and the only ice I’ve ever gone through. My buddy went through as well years ago across at the ledges with 2 ft of ice. Never a bad idea to have a throw bag. Nice work probably the biggest fish you’ll pull out of hole this season 😊
Those damn springs
I have to admit I never wear spikes but I'm going to start. Can't imagine not being able to help someone who's gone through because I couldn't get any traction.
They are worth ir
Take a throwable boat cushion with good handles and wrap 30 ft of poly rope around it , use as a seat on a milk crate or save your buddy, and remember there’s no such thing as safe ice✌🏻
That definitely pumps the adrenaline. Good tip for the spikes, and I'm glad you had them or else that could have been worse.
Have the frabill picks. Fortunately haven’t had to use them but they are 100 percent worth having
A throw bag is the best option. Can throw it 50' and never have to get close to unsafe ice. Glad you had spikes. Remember everyone there is no such thing as safe ice. Always be safe no matter the thickness. Can go from 10" to 1" in a step.
Lol bros were just going to keep fishin
His buddies were
Glad everyone is safe, a rope is an essential piece of gear, wouldn't have to get too close.
Otherwise, everyone else makes the obvious point, always check your ice
I have always carried a throw or rescue rope ice fishing and canoe fishing.
@@JA-hn3to after watching a man go in thru a pocket of very thin stuff and an old timer toss/sliding him a 100' rope with a 2# window weight tied to it rather than go near him I went straight to a hardware store to get some heavy line similar to paracord with an 800# strength rate. It is coiled in a spare bucket. I recommend everyone spend the 40 bucks for it, it really does save lives when every second counts.
Time to go home!! Come back in a few weeks
Seemed like forever before anyone reacted to that guy thrashing in the water... I realize it was moments.... Every moment counted in that situation. Glad that it ended well.
You said that "THREE PERSONS, INCLUDING YOURSELF, WENT THRU THE ICE" that morning?!?! Yet you, and the others, continued to fish??? I believe that I would have gone home, waited a week to give the ice more time to freeze up, and tried again. But that is me. I am retired from the Coast Guard and am extremely safety conscious... I have seen the tragic results of poorly made choices or decisions. Hopefully everyone learns a really good lesson from your video.
We learned for sure
yeah you need picks early season for sure. I had this happened a couple years ago but i know the guy walked over a pressure crack and the ice was good on both sides. my brother and I had to do the human chain to get him out. I also fell in myself without picks and I just remembered to kick my feet and and get myself up on the ice.
Wow man very close call. That guy was lucky you’s we’re there to help. Glad everyone got off safely. Can never be to cautious this time of year and especially the end of the season
The pause was a good thing you gotta stay calm n be smart 🎉
Thank you!
And thats why you should never go out ice fishomg without all the safety equipment and never go out alone....glad everyone ended up safe
Lots of crappy ice here in Wisconsin now and someone fell in at the spot I was fishing yesterday. Most people weren't wearing float suits or spikes. I always wear both and have a floating throw rope in the sled. That guy is lucky that other people were around and that you had your spikes. Ice cleats are also a really good idea so you can actually get traction to pull someone out.
Did you buy a throw rope or make one?
@@BendItFishing I bought one with 70ft of thick floating rope. It has a plastic ring on the end so the ring and rope combined have enough weight to toss it a good distance to someone, but light enough that it could hit them in the face and wouldn't even hurt.
@@FishingwithNat thanks! I'll probably buy one this year
@@BendItFishing It's one of those things you hope you'll never need but you might be really glad you have.
That’s some of the sketchiest ice I’ve seen! Good work fellas be safe out there!
The guy in camera shot just standing there kills me. If someone falls through the best you can do is stand there like a moron! Not someone I would ice fish with. Good for you and the smart guy that ran to grab that jet sled. That man is lucky.
He said he was waiting on his camera lol
If I were to fish on thin ice, I’d put all my stuff on a 20’ aluminum ladder section and drag that out, and always have it within easy reach. While fishing I’d sit on it. I fished in 4” ice one time in deep water (Cayuga Lake, NY) and it’s not for me. I don’t like it until 8” or so.
I will drive a truck on 10 ice of good ice
Good job
I LOVE IT ❤️ Ice safety video😂😂 fishing on ice where people are falling in all around you some are in the truck warming up not to die and other dudes are still fishing .. Hats 🎩 off to you Sir 👍. Very entertaining plus you saved a life I can’t Waite for the next safety video ..👍
Ty
There is an inlet off the boat ramp to the left stay safe
That's where I stepped through
Good job. Enough said.
Ty
Thin ice .... stay home. I know it's safe to walk on when I see a truck dive on it
That will be me✌🏻
This one’s gonna go viral. RUclips is recommending it.
Slowed down a bit
@@BendItFishing it did. Need to create a Tik Tok of it and plug the RUclips video.
The TikTok short is at 300k! I tried releasing it as a RUclips short but it flopped
@@BendItFishing27k isn’t a flop.
Nice job helping out. Maybe another week before it’s really safe.
😂😂😂😂😂
Thumbnail is crazy!!
Good job guys
Wow that's nuts
To keep the ice spikes handy w/o them being an annoyance, I sewed two velcro strips onto my Striker ice suit and put velcro around the handle of each spike. That way they're fixed in place but ready to grab. Be careful out there folks.
Good idea I might do that
Shit we already got the ice castles out in South Dakota
Let me pop a GoPro battery in real quick
I use external batteries that's the issues
Scary
Good job! You were well prepared with StrikerIce (I have the same) suit and picks.
-didnt that guy spud his way out??
He didn't spud. Theres a spring in that spot
One thing to be mindful of is a false sense of security with safety gear.
That can happen
It's a horror show. I bought a float suit and a safety bag to throw to someone who falls through
Gotta have the gear
Dang!! Scary stuff!!
Good man
I always wear a floater jacket early ice even did a video on it nobody watches
why the fuck would he keep moving farther out???????
Because of panic ✌🏻
@@shanewells9067 shit when i fell through the first time the last thing I thought was lets keep going farther out lmfao.
Where is this?
I know you probably can’t say the name but what state?
NH
That’ll shake you up
This why I waiting to ice fisg
Spud every step you go😢
50 dollar spud bar
What not to do
Why don't I ice fish, besides it's cold.
unreal.
no thank u or anything ahahha
🤔 Hmmm
Kinda got Me wondering if it was one of large unnecessary "sight fishing " holes people make there? Doesn't take much for those things to skim over and cause a hazard
Natural spring in that area
Geting the CONTEN
I didn't want to get my Camera wet.....
Still saved him..
That sucks
Go back the way you came,,,
ummmmmmmmm invest in a floater suit
Why would you not spud it especially if you were concerned???? This is completely avoidable.
He was not prepared that's for sure
I always test the ice for 4 inches otherwise I'll wait another week, your life ain't worth a weekend of fishing
Your not being super safe if you continue to fish on the lake if not one not two but three of you fell in. obviously the ice there is not safe
Safe is all relative
Haha. Duh moment.
pls dont act like a deer in headlights if this happens. everyone sorta froze and watched before attempting to help.
not trying to be a dink!! most people run faster for a flag n his own friends didn't even help? was he wearing a float suit?
Us running over there puts us at risk. The people closest to him were coaching him on what to do first
Some people laugh seeing me with a bar an safety ice picks. Stay safe tight lines
You can put 2 old screw drivers in your pocket if ya don’t have spikes
That works
