I'm moving to Siem Reap at the end of January. I have many reasons, mostly general but some unique to me that I chose Siem Reap. I will definitely be visiting all of Cambodia and who knows, in a year I may move somewhere else. Thanks for all you share! Maybe we can meet up at some point.

I dig the quick weekend boat over to Koh Rong...sounds sweet. But when you travel to Kampot...enjoy the road. It is unbelievable. Was in Kep & Kampot last week, love the new fountain.

I have lived in Cambodia for several years and mostly hang with Cambodian people. I love the people and the culture. That is why I find it unsettling to watch “Linda” drinking a beer for all to see in the middle of the day. She is so disconnected from the Khmer culture that I find it very sad.

So not only is that post apocalyptic ghost army of shells of high rise construction projects depressing but the prices are way higher . Pretty much a Just Say No warning for me

Prices are same as Phnom Penh. Which are maybe 10% higher overall than Siem Reap, which is the cheapest town in Cambodia.
And hardly a ghost town with such a big population and few unfinished buildings. And almost 50 buildings continued in last few months.

Si-Han-ook-ville. You are with a Khmer. Yet, you cannot even intelligibly say the name of the place where you live.
    Absurd.

Sihanoukville prices are comparable to Phnom Penh prices. Siem Reap is one of the cheapest towns in Cambodia. Local salaries reflect this. PP and Sihanoukville salaries are like 30%-40% higher than in Siem Reap.
But cannot really agree with all of these prices. For example EDC electricity price is same country wide. Of course condos and apartment buildings might charge more if you don't have straight contract with EDC, but then in those cases usually there is generators etc. available in building. In those electricity prices are inline with Phnom Penh.
Regarding street food. As you noticed maybe, the portions here are bigger than in Siem Reap. But you can find cheap street food in Sihanoukville too. I just had this morning pork and rice that cost $1. Which is the common prices all over Cambodia for that dish.
Also there are cheap western restaurants too. Check Romdoul's Place and Titanic (dishes from $3 up), and at sightly higher range but still very reasonable priced when considering quality of thee food; TOTO Pizza (dishes $5 up). And these are actual restaurants with those prices! Khin's Shack on Occheteul beach is very reasonable priced and the prices have just went up like 10% in last 10 years. $1 beers and $6-$8 fresh seafood BBQ on beach is bargain imho. Also all the food delivery apps are full of cheap food and many times delivery is free or very low.
Also one thing, especially wet market stuff, is that the veggies and fruits in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh are often B or even C quality imports from Vietnam and even from China. Here in Sihanoukville (also Kampot and other coastal areas) fruits are local A-quality stuff.
Which supermarket did you go? Check KPS Foody Supermarket and Icon Supermarket. Prices are pretty much same as Phnom Penh for sure, though again still might be slightly higher than in Siem Reap.
Language skills I agree. English is not as widely spoken in Sihanoukville as in other big towns. And I have always felt Sihanoukvilleans are more rude and less customer service orient people as Siem Reap people. And this how it has been here as long as I have lived here, over decade.
Personally I was not able to live in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh because the climate. The sea breeze here makes the weather amazing most of the year
