Never really worried about what happens to chickens and their condition I just wanted my eggs on a shelf at the supermarket. Now I have 6 girls of my own now and they eliminate any mental health issues I would ever get. They are my girls my chickens and my companion.

A chiken's legs show how healthy they are, the more yellowish thier legs are the healthier they are. Thier legs were white as snow. I'm happy you tooked them. Now they starts to look beautiful.

Awareness is growing. Also among these chicken farmers. Perhaps not as fast as we would like. In a way I also contributed to animal suffering when I was younger and unaware, buying cheap meat and eggs. If we stop buying cheap eggs and cheap meat we will speed up the transition to more animal friendly eggs or even plantbased alternatives. The latter is being developed as we speak.

I love to see hens get a chance to had a good chicken life, with food, shelter and love. We have 26 hens and too roosters, each has their own coop and free pasture raised, they are out of coops from am to pm when they choose to go in. We have named them all and enjoy the eggs. Our oldest are 5 years to 9 months, we keep them for as long as long as they live. They knock on our door hoping to get inside for treats. We love our flock.

I'm glad you're positively touched! If the chickens had a hard time in the factory be prepared that they have very weak immune system. They are prone to disease. Especially in the first year. Most of my group died within 2 years. Give them some extra vitamins! The purpose is that they have experienced the free life and real love from people. If you want to have less grief when a chicken dies, you can choose to not naming them. Especially if you have more than 10 chickens. We tend to personalize the animals more if they have a name. Anyway... it worked for us with the third group.
I have 4 chickens. They are so sweet and so curious, I let them explore around the yard freely and so far it’s gone well. They know they’re boundaries and stay within my property limit. I wish them a healthy and prosperous life!!
Look at those happy healthy girls! I love that you gave them windows in the boxes when you brought them home. It shows how much love you had for them when you called the one hen Pretty; you loved and believed in her. What a nice story. :)

Aren't chickens amazing pets? , I love when I kiss them on their "cheek" they close their eyes and fully trust you. When they do their little cute diggings or run after each other and hunt you when they hear bags opening.

Such a nice video, and glad you have some land to put them on. But I wouldn't recommend feeding your hens beaten egg (was it that?), they will get to like the taste of their own eggs so watch out. Our rescue hens once numbered 9 but now we are down to one after nearly 4 years, but we have Lottie (Ixworth) Diesel (Copper Maran - rescued from over amorous cockeral who chipped her beak one time) Genie (Blue Maran) and a 100ft garden to roam around in. But they are champion garden destroyers so they don't get out much in spring until the plants have established themselves. We will get more rescue hens once lock-down is over, they are such good company!

Great to hear S & P. About 15 years back I started to eat less meat and at the same time I choose organic more expensive meat. So I didn't spend more money in the end :D Now I sometimes eat Beyond meat which remembers me a bit how meat use to taste.

How anyone can keep chickens in small cages when they are looking in this state and are very un happy and dying is beyond me Thank God you saved them keep it up

I must say any country that allows its animals to be treated like that and get in that condition can not call its self civilized. their condition was terrbile and their lives must have been hell. There is no excuse to not protect them with laws and sanctions
Some of these chickens have a damaged apparatus for creating shells, according to the vet. It's also true that some had an calcium deficiency. Since 10 months ago I give them extra crushed oyster shell's and the problem with 1 or 2 specific chicken laying Eggs with no shells has been fixed. Thank's for your input Starshine and Holly!

Now they need a 🐓, Hens need the male to keep them healthy and protect them from predators. Are you planning to breed them, a rooster would be a nice addition.
I absolutely would if it was possible. Unfortunately we're "not allowed" to breed with rescued hens because it takes a lot of energy from the hen. When hens leave the egg industy they allready consumed half of their life energy. Sometimes even more.

"Special egg" has NO SHELL, which means SERIOUS calcium deficiency, which is LIFE THREATENING! Quick, put out LOTS of crushed oyster shell for them!!!

A soup pot, some onion, carrot, celery, bay leaf, peppercorns, and parsley stems. Simmer 2-3 hours, strain, chill, remove fat, reheat and enjoy.
