I’d take the stock wheels. Looks just a little bit better
Mike I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to have different size wheels on an AWD vehicle. They’re going to spin at different speeds and put stress on the awd system.
If the rolling diameter of the front and rear is the same, then it is fine to do. But I think its off by almost 6% in this case, which is way to much. This set up is definitely going to mess with the drivetrain.
It doesn’t have the traditional all wheel drive system that Audi used back in the day. These new r8 can split the traction up 80 percent rear 20 percent front.
@@SS-rc4kh Agreed.
@Autovlog you're not supposed run staggering wheels on Quattro Audi. They'll rotate at a different speed and will blow your diff. Yes I have an Audi, yes I know.
Next video: “I broke my car”
Yep, I have an R8 V10 spyder, and no way would i f*ck my expensive beautiful car up doing what this chump has done to his.........!!!.
@@bakedbeanzontoast9078 😂😂😂
@@turk3sh I think Mike does this on purpose to get more views, what he's done to this car in the last video is ridiculous , you can't do this to a car that's already the best, Mike's a smart RUclipsr he know how to get people talking , I'll be looking forward to the next few videos as will many others.
Yep I agree. If that’s a Quattro it’s going to be in the shop for new differentials soon.
Stock wheels nicer… polished lip is a bit 2005
I prefer the stock wheels, Mike. The KW springs were a good addition though.
The yellow purple is a little questionable
exactly. these aftermarket wheels are too riced out for this car. Imagine paying over 10K for those...yikes.
Stock wheels for me to 👍 ride height ok.
@@jaycemain3962 11k lol
@@jakesta11 it’s literally the coilover color. No one will see it
Glad you love the car and the wheels, but not a fan of this upgrade.
Looks like a riced Civic
@@Abdullah..S LOL
I don’t understand what a lot of you guys are talking about. It’s a lot better I mean a lot better looking now this is the way the should come from the factory
never been a fan of multi piece wheels, especially on fast cars, i think they look tacky but whatever floats your boat
what is that ... is that a scratch !!
- an random rock -
Plus not as strong as a monoblock
Same. I dislike both the AMG and now R8 wheels he opted for. The beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say. :)
Like others have said it looked better before with the stock wheels and suspension.
Was perfection in stock form. Now it looks way too fast Furious. But opinions are like assholes. Enjoy the ride
Yeah goes for a blackout then gets chrome lips rims 😂🤦🏽♂️
lol @ stock ok boomer
It’s definitely better now but I would have gone with a different wheel IMO there is way better looking rims on the market
It's just ugly as fuck now. Why are you stancing German halo cars.. jfc
It looks like one of those old Honda Civic with oversized wheels sticking out of the fenders 🤣
Funny you should say that, I was thinking It reminded me of something but couldn't remember what, now I can!! Thanks... 😁
Stock are nicer but whatever floats your boat 👌
To each his own but I agree with the simpler look of stock
Also I didn’t think you could change rim size on a four wheel drive system. Unless I guess he dropped the profile of the tyre down to compensate ?
Agreed
stock wheels looked muchhhhh better
Stock much better , feel your going to have a lot of issues
Stocks look better, that gun metal throws it off
I see a lot of trips to the wheel repair shop in the future.
Perfect. That means more content
Not if you know how to drive
In Pittsburgh for sure! Pot hole heaven
Those pot holes in Pittsburgh are like no other lmao
He was fine in the Ferrari, he’ll be fine with this
Stock looked better, and sounded better with the Akropovic exhaust system.
At 6:35 those speakers match the frequency of the tire sound to lessen the road noise in the cabin.
Looked better with all black rims.
Love the R8 but I would have left the stock wheels and the suspension. Enjoy the mods !!
Sorry, I had to stop the video in the middle... Put the old wheels back on...
Aren't you supposed to run same size wheels in AWD audis because of the differential?? I heard TJ Hunt talk about it how different size wheels can actually smoke the differential!
He wants to learn the hard way.
hope so !
The same goes with 4wd vehicles you have to have the same wheel and tire set up on all four corners
The tires are wider not taller so it won’t effect anything.
@@brentvance3958 the rears are WAY taller. 6.2% to be exact. 25.75” fronts and 27.5” rear. That’s a HUGE difference for an AWD.
Personally I like the stock setup better. I think the oversized wheels detract from the look of the car.
Congrats Mike you just killed a perfectly good car!!! Good job....
Pure black definitely looked better imo, considering the whole car has black details. When you drive it looks like it's just floating on a chrome halo, but there is no other chrome on the car that matches it xd
1. Poor offset choice. 2. Too much poke. 3. The larger wheel tire choice must retain oem outside rolling diameter. At minimum the rear should be 325/20 21. because you've blown the oem rolling diameter dynamics, you can anticipate blowing the quattro system. Owner of Audi's for 14 years and currently own a Gen1 R8.
2 weeks and he's still ignoring the subject, wow
1. Agree. Changing the offset on an R8 without matching the scrub radius to the oem wheel specs drastically worsens handling(much more than normal cars).
2. Agree.
3. Disagree. The R8's Quattro isn't the same as other Quattro systems. It uses a heavy duty viscous coupling front diff, and allows for a lot of different drive ratios between the front and rear wheels. The new R8 has an even more beefed-up drivetrain. This viscous differential can allow the front axle to spin faster or slower than the drive axle going to the rear wheels. It does this on its own, without any clutch or computer engagement/disengagement. Generally, a normal car can tolerate max 5% diameter difference without causing damage to the drivetrain. I personally would never run staggered setups on awd cars(because a lot of other factors can impair driving characteristics), but I've never seen a person who ran a good setup blow an R8 drivetrain because they ran staggered. Also, even though I don't like the wheel/tire size he chose because the tire diameter is so different in person, if you calculate it, the difference between from and back wheel diameter is still only 5.1%. That's nothing for the R8's drivetrain. If you were to exceed that 5% margin and run say 10% or more, you will eventually run into issues where the differentials can't tolerate the resistance difference and overheat the system. The R8's diff temp threshold is so low that it will put the R8 in limp mode almost immediately before a diff issue even comes up. This is why it's reliable with with launch control compared to other cars in its segment. I'm sure you're probably a member on the largest Audi/R8 forum...the discussion on staggered setups on the R8 has been beaten like a dead horse. The first gen R8's drivetrain isn't as robust as the current gen, but it is still more than capable to run the staggered setup in this video...even though I wouldn't. I would've at least run a taller wheel up front to at least come to within 2-3% difference.
will be a nice snowplow in January. PennDOT will hire you...
not a fan of those rims tbh, multi piece rims on exotics aren't my personal cup of tea, also dont like how the tires look stretched in the rear. Wouldve much perferred HRE FF15 or FF01
I don’t like how the wheels are wider than the tires.
Looks goofy
Looks riced out, absolutely crap.....
Do not drive the car, you gonna blow the Quattro system." differential" It's a must that matches the stock size on AWD cars
That’s guaranteed
Thought the same
And if it does, it’ll be more content and drama for him to upload.
@@whitemailprivilege2830 i am from Romania and what i realized american people does have a fanatic problem with wheels.. To be more big (they think it looks cool but dosent).. For me personaly that r8 looked the same and way better with smaller wheels and level kit!
Or program the car to tell it what wheel is has on. Otherwise... yeah, interesting content may be on the way 😂😂😂
Mike you have AWD or the Quattro system. Having different sized wheels means your differentials are spinning at different speeds. You’re going to chew out your diff gears. It’s essentially like getting a flat on a rear wheel drive with 20” on the back and your spare is an 18”. Your diff dies dude.
Those wheel differences might throw a light for the awd system.
I agree. Other RUclipsrs have said it is really important to match the stock size on AWD cars.
It will
@UCP5y7fjrw0QgEde-3Kw6s3A where the hell you learn your math from. 20inch up front with 21 in the back with 245 tires in the front and 315 in the back. You must be on drugs with your math

Honestly stock wheels look better and ohh yea 11K cheaper. Polished lips look horrible on black wheels. It is a Mercedes thing so i guess that's why you really like it. Whatever floats your boat but id keep that cash in the bank!
Well its content for his channel so.. Sometimes i question if he even bribed the police just to get content getting pulled over million times on the channel... 👍 😄 👍
Who else also thinks the stock rims looked better?
Oh yeah?????????
the stock wheels are probably lighter and stronger too.
@@JMNTN oh yeah???
Me, personally i think the car stock looked better. Except maybe the wing, that's definitely added to the look...but everything else was perfect as is.....
Looks good, I’m not a fan of Black with polished lips, but whatever floats your boat.
Had them in high school on my red cavalier
Same. I feel like that style was popular like 15 years ago. Looks kind of ricey now on a supercar
It looks sick
Rubbing tires are so ghetto
If it ain't "beefy", "aggressive", or "sick", it ain't Mr. Mike.
Stradman is the king of "sick," this guy is all about "naaasty."
That’s going to be one expensive set of wheels when the diff fails and it’s not covered under warranty. I was specifically told different diameter wheels weren’t an option on my R8. But it really depends on whether or not the front tires have a higher profile to make up the difference in total front/rear diameter.
And these tires aren’t the same height
I was thinking the same thing as it's a 4wd. Rotational diameter supposed to be the same for 4wds.
goodbye quattro, it was a blast :D
RIP in peace
Isn't the speaker there for muting the drone noise inside the car? I think that makes more sense 👍🏻
14:24 Did you bottom out a little pulling into your driveway?
Sure did.
10:27. The optics is undoubtedly phenomenal, but when the car hits a pothole on the road, doesn't the fender hit the wheel ?
I also see that aluminum-colored ring in danger when it touches the edge of a sidewalk. It will likely be destined for several scratches.
Learn how to drive if you’re hitting curbs
@@richardjameswellingtoniv9682 I don't know if you are all this great driver, but when I see that kind of rims around, none is without scratches.
These will be selling for 3.5k, pickup only, within a month :)
It’s all a bit too Fast and Furious for my liking. Good luck trying not to do serious damage to the wheels, suspension and underside of the car over the pot holes and kerbs. That’s going to be expensive… 😬
Also, I believe the speaker is the sub-woofer for the B&O music system, as below:
“The 2015 Audi R8 has been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, and with it, Bang & Olufsen has announced an advanced surround sound system.
The B&O system comprises 13 active speakers, each with its own dedicated amplifier, and a subwoofer placed in the front wheel liner. B&O says the system's total output power is rated at 550 watts.”
F12 wheels are the best looking wheel ive seen in a while.
First off, my opinion of the wheels on the current c63 and the wheels on the r8 look the best out of all the setups you've had over the years. Second, I've never been a orange color kinda person but that color on the r8 looks stunning especially with it looking so good on the new wheels and coilovers. Kinda jealous right now lol... in all honesty, awesome job Mike on where you're taken the channel since the beginning. Love the videos, and i love the " repetitive content "
Mike, I may be wrong but doesn’t the wheels have to be the same size because of the 4 wheel drive system ,and causing problems with the gearbox ?
seems to be right: www.souzastireservice.com/Tires-101/Tire-Matching-AWD-4WD
Let's see how the car holds up. I am also worried about the lack of room for the wheels. Can't imagine that that will be safe to drive.
Big money to fix when he breaks it
I like the stock wheels much better than the new wheels
AWD with different wheel size = more content 😂
Different size wheels on an AWD car?
The weels are to much!!
I think having 20" all around would have been better. Your clearance in the rear is questionable and could cause issues.
The wheels are not good stock is better
F12 wheels were unmatched. Not a fan of the polished lips but the fitment is A+
So I was on Rt. 22 last Thursday afternoon. My boring AF, daily commute back to Cranberry from Weirton got a whole lot more interesting when I looked in the rearview and saw a bright orange missile closing in on me at break neck speeds... I was going 90mph and I couldn't get out of the left lane fast enough. You passed me like I was in reverse! HAHAHA. The R8 looks and sounds absolutely INCREDIBLE! I love the new wheels and stance Mike. Much respect!
Not a fan of this at all. Looks tacky and cheapens the great look it had.
Now that is one beefy orange R8😍🔥
Mike, how about some orange seatbelts? A small interior mod that would make a big difference👌
The wheels on the Audi R8 are the best Mike 😀👍
This dude is clueless. Running staggered wheels on an awd R8 will damage the awd system and will destroy that rear differential.
Beautiful 🤩
These new wheels are my favorite so far and how that Audi looks is just gorgeous!!
all the carbon fiber and the way she sounds…🤤
Get your ‘here before the AWD System and DIF break ticket’
Good luck Mike. Looks great but I see problems in your future. More content I guess.
The wheels on the F12 were the best! 👌🏻
They were stunning wheels 👌🏽
Why not invest in a new house, not a duplex, that you own instead of renting?
Or continue dumping all your money into leased vehicles? It just doesn’t make sense to me.
He doesn't live in a duplex, it's his own house
The rear wheels are 27,4" in diameter, but the fronts are only 25,8".
That will give a difference in of 86" vs 81" in rolling distance for the wheels.
The front wheels will be spinning 6% faster than the back wheels.
You are wrong. OEM 245-35-19 and 295-35-19... New 245-30-20 is spot on, and 325-25-21 is 0,9%, it's within the limits...
@@modifiedf2092 we are talking difference between the front and back axle.
@@brickisland6353 And why are you talking about that? Do you suggest that Audi don't know what they are doing?
This set up is killing the game, damn it looks awesome! You nailed it with wheels & lowered it just right. Have you thought about adding carbon front spliter? That would final piece to puzzle IMO.
It will get ripped off the very next time he scrapes the driveway pullin in fast.
Mike saying that the ride quality is just the same as stock yet his camera is bouncing all over the place, wonder how long it'll be before he blows the all-wheel drive system in that thing with those Wheels in that setup
I personally don't like multipiece wheels, bent the lip way too often on mine and the lip takes away from the spoke size and makes the wheel look smaller overall. Plus like everyone is saying I thought quattro audis needed same size wheel
Alternet video title:
How to make your car look ugly and make the ride worse
Get some orange paint on order for when you scuff the arches or catch the bumper again on the drive lol
that bumper scrape was painful at the end.
Coming back to this car because it’s my favorite one you’ve ever owned and forgot how much hate you got for this setup. I get the issues with the drivetrain, but purely aesthetically speaking, this thing looked gorgeous with these wheels. The gunmetal lip really gave the whole car character, and that orange🥵
Speaker in the fender may be to either a sound dampening speaker , just like air pods use tiny speakers to reduce outside sounds .
The orange with the carbon and now the wheels 🎯🐐💯
The rear tyres look awesome Mike 😀👍
Hi Mike fantastic looking wheels 😀👍
14:24 .. the scratch sound hurts.
Wheels look like Tron vehicle on video, the center disappears. Cool. It looked like you choose same as OEM size tires?
There’s no car Mike has had that’s as gorgeous and that sits so perfect like the Ferrari
His C63 before the Ferrari looked the best
How did he get 325 pilot sport 4s in the rear? Michelin don’t even make them. I thought you got a go with cup2s anything more then 315
i think they are Cup 2s. I noticed by the checker flag design which is different from the 4s
Also not a fan of the lip and the stretched tire look personally. Rare time I think it looks worse. But, this is your ride man.
Love your channel man, and car. Awesome content keep it coming!
You’ve had some incredible looking cars Mike but this one just put them all to shame, what an absolute weapon!
Looks slick dude! Was that a rub coming in your driveway? You pulled in that garage like a f**kin boss!
Definitely the best looking car you’ve had on the channel. Looks amazing
I wonder if the speaker in the fender is to help cancel out road noise?
The R8 is looking SWEEEEEET with the new wheels and the drop. Loving the direction of the build so far. Cant wait to see more my dude!
Oh yeah???
Another car destroyed, that look went out three years ago dork
The Dunlop q3+ i have on my Yamaha YZF-R6 have a similar feature. It does look cool.
Needs a front splitter to balance out the taller rear spoiler.
Oh yeah???
@@whitemailprivilege2830 Visual asthetic balance. Front and rear downforce balance.
Expected you to get a power suspension kit in this one.
Best looking R8 out there Mike!
Dont think Mike did his research on staggering wheels on audi quattro. Hope he realizes it before the damage comes that's an expensive fix.
Absolutely gorgeous car. Saw you driving near Robinson a few days ago…car sounds AMAZING. Personally would’ve kept stock wheels on it. The stretched tire look just isn’t right on a $170k R8. It just isn’t right on a $3000 Civic either but I digress…
Wheels are ok, that wing is sick!
I was behind you today getting on 79s from 376. I went North, but damn does she sound awesome😍
Crazy wheels🔥aye I hope those streets out there are in good shape with that ride bc here in Philly you'll be hitting pot holes all day🙄🤣
Uhhh Mike…. You can’t run bigger diameter wheels in the back on an all whee drive car. Unless Quattro is different somehow. I hope your tires have a larger aspect ratio in the front to make up for that 1 inch difference or you’re gonna have an expensive repair very soon.
Looks good. Could use a front lip spoiler.
The speaker in the fender is for sound deadening! Just like in noise canceling headphones. It plays a specific tone that deadens the tires and road noise. Look up how noise canceling headphones work, its pretty interesting, and can explain it better than i can.
So how did you get it up the Auto Illusions driveway without scraping?
Ouch! that bumper scraping at the end when turning in your driveway
