Chopper is a Murdering Psychopath War Criminal

- A lot of people remember Chopper from the rebels tv series as a slightly grumpy astromech that served as comic relief. But If we take a closer look at the actions of this tiny machine, it's clear that there are some very troubling patterns of behavior. It is possible that this astromech is completely anti-social and not only a danger to himself but everyone around him.

To quote Dave Filoni: "If Artoo is the family dog, Chopper is the cat." Chopper has chosen his person - it's Hera. Everyone else is, at best, tolerated.
This.... lol
You know, this is the best explanation I've heard. Bravo
"Chopper is a cat." You just summed up the reason I like him so much.
And everyone knows that cats are psychopaths.
😼
I wrote up a brief primer for my parents about the characters from Rebels before they watched the first two episodes of Ahsoka. When it came to describing Chopper, I told them that he had the temperament of my sister's cat... who is a total psychopath.
I just realized Chopper said, “just shoot it down” and when Hera said it would crash into the city he response with “and that’s bad?” 😂
Yeah you can odly just know what he is trying to say based on context and how his beeps sound.
“But it will fall into the city!”
“YES! EXACTLY! GLORIOUS MURDER AND MAYHEM!”
I thought I was just hearing what I wanted!
I wondered if I'd misheard that. Glad to see that I didn't lol
@PineappleZach666 it's because chopper actually speaks basic (English). I heard his voice got muffled because he swears a lot.
Is Chopper a psychotic murdering war criminal?
Yes, and we love him for it.
Correct
Wouldn’t have him any other way
Chopper’s not a war criminal, he’s just malfunctioning. so what if there are a few murderous, quirks for mayhem in the software. He’s on the winning team so no foul, no war crimes. 😂
It's all fun and games until Chopper is in YOUR squad, then you'll send him to the spare parts bin or throw him into a sun.
Correct
“It’s never a war crime- the first time.”
- Chopper, probably.
"It's even funnier the second time."
- probably Chopper again
“The third time is just my charm.”
-Chopper definitely.
"The fourth time is because I'm bored."
-Absolutly Chopper
“The fifth time was a necessity. Probably.”
- Very much Chopper
"Now the sixth time, that one's on you."
- Chopper yet again
Chopper is a droid who enjoys his work
Chopper isnt in the prisoner taking business...he's in the killin' Imperials business, and cousin, business is a boomin'...
The only reason he hasn't directed the Ghost into a Star yet is that he'd need to be on it, too.
_"I'm the best at what I do _*_and what I do isn't very nice."_*
Oops, wrong shorty.
That is fucking menacing
Clanker
Wait a minute...some people try to apologize for Chopper?! I thought his psychopathic tendencies were the source of his charm. On a hilarious/terrifying note, can you imagine what would happen if Chopper teamed up with HK-47?
Well there goes organic life.
I need this buddy comedy.
@@mavraszunwoody2527 Statement: the correct term is "meat bag"
How about adding in Triple-Zero and BT-1 from the Aphra comics? Or is that too much war crimes?
@@ThatGUY666666 That's HK's term I'm not sure Chopper does the same.
I'd rather be in a hallway with Vader at the end than have Chopper anywhere in sight even if I'm on his team! That terrifying cackle he lets out when he's blowing things up gives me chills!
See, the secret ending of the Asohka series is Thrawn helping the New Republic fight against the biggest threat the galaxy has ever faced.
Chopper in control of Centerpoint Station.
Make sure you better have a restraining bolt as an Uno reverse card
*I'd rather NEITHER options, thank you very much!* 😭
so long as Hera is nearby, Chop is safe.
Vader at least makes his will be known
If Rebels was a D&D campaign, Chopper is that person who plays Chaotic Evil because it’s funny.
And he’s right, it’s hilarious.
He's the person who blatantly plays Chaotic Evil but insists he's just Chaotic Neutral. And then says "It's what my character would do" to justify his war crimes and near TPK.
@@lordhades8025this lol
The Murder hobo.
@@PtaaruonnYep that’s Chopper
He is basically the Murder Hobo.
I actually cracked up when I realized you can kind of understand him in Asoka. When he asked the pilot if she went through his stuff while looking for the tracker, she said no, and chopper was like ‘yes you diiiIIiiiid’ 😂
I found this out during Rebels. You can actually hear intelligible words in his droid babble.
He actually calls Hera "mom" in that scene. 😂
We all know Chopper is a psychotic murderer and yet that is exactly why we find him adorable
Speak for yourself
"psychotic murder" is not adorable with a working moral compass, I suggest different words unless such is you.
Bros it was joke
Perhaps he's working for the wring team 🤔
He's your average housecat that is let outside
The episode that follows Chopper stranded alone in enemy territory because he went rogue trying to rob a merchant for his own personal gain is legitimately one of my favorite episodes of Star Wars media in general.
One of my favs too! He's cranky, petulant, bloodthirsty, and has a wonderful moment of softness when he tells AP-5 about crashing and being saved by Hera. And he gets a friend! I'll never stop stanning this little droid.
Same here. Chopper blowing a stealth mission by trying to obtain a new leg and then stealing an entire cargo freighter to escape was slapstick comedy gold.
What ep?
@@josephgrahm4713 Season 2 Episode 19 "The Forgotten Droid"
Chopper is such a psycho lmao. The tone of Rebels almost covers that up
But it's a kids cartoon!
@@keithck3720Yeah? So’s hentai, to some people unfamiliar with it, & believe ALL children’s show are made strict for children. 😂
@@bryanmiller8604 I was being sarcastic. I really enjoyed Rebels. The show got pretty dark at times and hid a psychotic mass murdering droid in plain sight yet the critics dismiss it because it's a kids cartoon.
@@keithck3720 I was being ironic. 😂
Because Stormtroopers were portrayed as beyond dumb and without any personality. It was certainly a kids cartoon because adult media tends to highlight that even your enemies are people too. I mean Rebels played out like a PS2 game. Stormtroopers were expendable like they weren’t living beings. We were supposed to feel bad anytime like three rebels died but do nothing but blink when Imperials die en masse.
Chopper is most certainly a psychopath and war criminal with the high death toll. But like humanoids, he developed and adapted from his experiences. I think Chopper is a droid who has been through untold horrors of not one but two galactic wars. He was found abandoned by Hera and I think that his PTSD and abandonment has shaped a lot of his behavior. Is it right? Absolutely not. He should definitely not be such a jerk and try to murder his teammates. But he does show a great deal of care for them too, especially Hera. I feel his time with AP-5 has also show how much he does care and want companionship. I do adore their relationship. They're like Bert and Ernie
All is fair in love and war
Which is crazy, cause Chopper wanted to abandon a baby... 👀
@thalmoragent9344 A really good point. This made me realize most of his bullying is directed to Ezra. Which makes me think he wants to be the only baby lol
jealous housecat@@sylinaacevedo6515
@@sylinaacevedo6515Yep,that's it,he's definitely a cat
I have to think that Chopper would have been a greater ally to Saw Gerrara, since Saw doesn't have nearly the amount of scruples about how he conducted his missions compared to the rest of the Rebel Alliance. Chopper would have fit in well with his lone wolf unit.
But they weren’t as chaotic as the Rebels.
Loose morals, maybe, but too organised.
Saw Gerrara is too strict and will not tolerate Chopper's antics. Hera thinks Chopper is an angel with a bit of an attitude, so she lets him get away with almost anything.
Chopper is a Canadian. Just look up some of the stuff Canada has done in times of war.
In their defense they didn’t have logistics for those poor prisoners
When Canadians go to war they leave the manners at home lol.
@@GenerationTechlol
True though
True but they get the job done
There was an episode of Rebels when Chopper actually met R2D2 and.....of course, Chopper was a dick and they didn't get along.

Chopper is the textbook example of why all droids need to undergo routine memory wipes.
Not really, he seems more like an exception considering most sentient droids aren't sadistic killers.
Ugh... theres this black c3po and black R2 in the comics thats pretty sadistic.
But they were designed that way, chop wasn't
You mean Vader's droids Triple Zero. Forgot what bad R2 was called. Helarius. 😁😄😃

I always hated how they basically blamed EZRA for falling off the roof of the Ghost instead of getting angry at Chopper and Zeb for literally being the ones that PUSHED HIM OFF. Then again, it felt like Ezra was always blamed for things Chopper and Zeb did during the first season. Makes you wonder why they even bothered taking him in at all when it seemed like none of them actually wanted him around for the first 24 episodes.
Tbf Ezra was a brat who didn’t get his character development yet and they warmed up to him after empire day but still attempted murder then again I get the feeling he makes a attempt on all the crew members lives except Hera so it’s probably just another day for them
For Chopper, busting Ezra balls and from time to time almost get Ezra kill is another way to help him train as Jedi. Chopper did have moment that he follow Ezra to seek Maul and Obi-wan out until his power run out entirely in the desert.
Fun Fact: Chopper ws actually voiced by Dave Filoni himself!
There is a great Dave Filoni quote where he say that if R2 is your favorite dog, then Chopper is a cat. That statement stands so true.
Chopper is the old "how the fuck are you still alive" cat that somehow outlived all the other cats. He refuses any help from the vet (they need to wear bomb disposal suits and have him on twice the sedation of a normal cat its weight) and we love him still. Because humans are weird.
@@ForestRaptor "Pretty privilegw" is very much a real thing, it's foxes avoid the on-sight slaughter that coyotes have despite both being equally dicks.
Pretty much applies to cats and Chopper too. They're sociopathic and uncaring for others not on their circle, but they're cute so we just let it slide.
A feral cat that is
Chopper is my favourite SW droid. They did a perfect job capturing the Hera and Chopper characters and their relationship in that short Ashoka scene.
which one
My kids and I weren't really buying live action Hera until she was arguing with Chop.
@@billthomas2652 Yes! Hera as the busy annoyed space mom and Chopper as the homicidal annoying brat. Perfect direct translation from Rebels.
@@billthomas2652She’s going to be a little different because she’s older, a bit more wise and mature and she’s also a legit mother now and not just “team mom” like before.
They did a good job of walking the line between classic Hera we know and love and the changes that she’s been through since Rebels ended.
That scene definitely sealed it tho… “No, I did not go through your stuff..” “Yes you did!” Lmao I love how you can always understand Chopper if you listen closely.
Hera is my favorite character from Rebels. You can still feel she has a broken heart and it comes across in live action
Killing Younglings
Defying Gravity
Blow up thousands of imperials

He doesn’t defy gravity… he COMMANDS it!
people be like "oh, do you choose chopper or bea to be your robot." like those are the same. NO! One is a robot with a stutter and emotional damage, and the other is a WAR CRIMINAL WITH A POTTY MOUTH
Hey you leave poor Chopper’s stutter, & emotional damage outta this, you big bully!! 😂
@bryanmiller8604 bea was the robot in Andor series, I believe and he had the stutter and emotional damage
The most dangerous duo in star wars isn't palpatine or some other sith. It's chopper and R2
What a weird coincidence! I just finished watching the first two episodes, and then posted this question on my Facebook SW group: When is Chopper going to start adding to his already horrifying kill count?
I truly appreciate your analysis of this character and agree with almost everything you said. His vicious ingenuity, however, demonstrated in the intradictor cruiser mission, and his animosity towards other droids are precisely why I want him on my team. When fighting an asymmetrical war, you need someone like Chopper to be able to create the mass casualties needed to defeat the enemy, rather than risking their redeployment only to fight them again. As for his animosity to Ezra Bridger, I completely understand as I found Ezra more obnoxious than Clone Wars Season One Ashoka. Seriously, Ezra made me pro Empire whenever he was on screen.
You would unequivocally be shot or hung by a lamppost if you’re detected infiltrating enemy ranks in real life. You people talk like real life would play out like these children’s cartoons. I mean you have to be kidding.
Chopper is a psychopath who enjoys killing, but the simple fact is that the rebels needed to kill imperials to win the war. And Chop was hella good at it.
Wow, I would never have guessed that Chopper is a Murdering Psychopath War Criminal. He really gives off a nice friendly vibe.
More like a grumpy, mean girl vibe.
Ill take phrases ive never thought id hear for $100 alex:
"Makes R2D2 look like a saint"
He makes IG units look like saints lol
Their is only one sentient sophont that C1-10P cares about, that is Hera Syndulla. If she reminds him she wants someone else to live he will hold back. Everything else can burn.
C1-10P is not the only character like this, although he is a bit extreme. Jayne from Firefly/Serenity and Amos from the Expanse are very similar. Incredibly loyal to a few people and willing to murder without warning anyone else.
In Amos words "I am that guy", proceeds to murder a guy in absolute cold blood 0 remorse at all, while saving the conscience of a normal guy
Can't see those traits on either of them; this droid is just insane
They are similar..lol.
Jayne is the kind of guard dog you don't want to pick a fight with, and he has alot of guns to wage a small war if he had to.
Jayne wasn't even remotely loyal, to anyone. THAT part was made abundantly clear in the only season we got.
Chopper is so funny because he's a murderous psychopath
Chopper may be funny in animation, but the same antics that seem hilarious in an animated film would hit a lot differently in live action.
@darwinskeeper421 hey, we all laugh at the temple scene in revenge of the sith. I'm sure chopper would still give us all a great experience in live action
finally someone talks about how chopper has the highest kill count of the ghost crew
Soooo Chopper is pretty much Trevor Philips inside an astromech....
Hehe ok I can see that
This is the perfect description of him
Yeah, pretty much.
The fact the dude is like a stoner blaming somebody else for a MIA lighter was too good. The "No I haven't been in your stuff" bit when Chop misplaced the tracking beacon 😜
I always took that training scene as chopper just enjoying seeing Ezra fail way too much, I didn't take it he was intentionally trying to kill him but who knows. I haven't seen Rebels in a long time
Hey Zeb is just responsible for that as well as Kanan..Zeb kept feeding him the cartons and Kanan didn't stop them.
It was like winding your younger brother up but it went too far😂
Well, in an interview, the _Rebels_ crew did say that R2-D2 is a Loyal Dog while Chopper is a Cat . . . Honestly, do you think he is more of a cat than a dog?
Given what we know of cats (teleporting, mind Controller parasites in their shit, etc.) I think they've made the cat pretty spot on.
Cats are merciless killers.
Not all cats are, @@justindunlap1235, but they can be merciless…

Chopper was playing and holding those force sensitive children after they were saved, still it was wrong for him to suggest blowing up the baby.Glad zeb helped the kid.
And when chopper turned the gravity back on he saved ezra from being shot by an imperial engineer, but he should have helped him up though.
Chopper is basically that guy who seems like he says all in a days work each time he blows up imperials.
Well, in a galaxy full of weirdos, there should be one psychopath of a droid at least. His heart is in the right place, and I feel some actions are always taken to the limit of decency.

Chopper knows it’s not a war crime the first time it happens. Just imagine for a moment Chopper’s software downloaded into an IG. Oh the good time to be had by many then. 😂
Everyone will be dead in the star destroyer and the star destroyer is rammed into the death star and then the cycle resumes until the whole death star explodes.
I feel like those situations where he put his crewmates in danger, he knew they would be able to survive (like you said, he has the spatial awareness and processing capability to navigate hyperspace, so many of these scenarios were probably kindergarten puzzles for him) but yeah, he's an abominable war criminal: the heart of a Toddler, the soul of a crotchety old man, and the moral compass of a wartime Canadian who's stopped saying sorry, it's quite the combo
Chop wants to drop the freaking hyperdrive 🤣
Is it just me, or is Chopper easily the most relatable character in SW?

Chopper is the Homelander of Star Wars
😁
I love Chops personality. I created an astromech in my sw 5e game to aid my players but also do my bidding in screwing with them as much as possible generally pushing them in the direction I want them to go. R3-F4 was a hoot. Didn't have a memory wipe for decades 😂

Chopper is the chaotic evil character of starwars
R2 had C3PO ,
Sucks K2-SO died on Skarif
Would love to see Chopper and K2-SO be a team. I think their interaction with each other would be great
Chopper isn’t just another droid he was found by Hera after the battle of Ryloth and has probably been through a lot of combat missions as a Y-wing bombers navigator and I think as a result of his experiences he’s adapting to take on more of an active combative role thanks to his memories not getting wiped making him more of an asset and at the same is causing him to be unhinged his memories of the clone wars are still there making him think he’s still has to conduct hyperspace jumps and manage the systems of a Y- wing while being shot at by Separatist forces it’s like droid ptsd
Let's not forget he might've been with the pilot of that Y-wing for a long time and probably had a close relation and suddenly him and his pilot (who most likely died) are abandoned by the Republic as clones and droids were just numbers, despite risking themselves and giving everything for the war effort.
Then Hera came along and was the first person in a long time to actually care for him. This would explain why he does not care for anyone but Hera, since no one cared about him but Hera.
@@w0lffe09question...what if chopper just racist against humans? He fought for a free republic and then a human took that away, human clones betrayed their jedi, almost every soldier is a human who may have committed worse war crimes and humanity commiting mass genocide on different alien races.

Chopper might not be Beetee, but I'd say he's about as psychopathic as that bucket of terror. All he lacks is the weaponry.
If he gets access to blasters, no one is safe! XD
I just think that Chopper is the Star Wars equivalent of a Gen Xer with PTSD. I can't remember who has the higher body count Chopper or R2-D2, but if you are going to throw shade at poor old Chopper you need to throw shade at R2-D2. Just Saying.
I have always wondered if the Y-Wing crash changed his personality
I don’t mean in a PTSD way but he might have suffered actual damage that Hera never discovered
Chopper only TRIED to murder 264, you see that he survived the fall at the end of the episode 😂😂
I figured as much! Astromechs are built tough.
chopper is hilarious in a bender rodriguez kinda way
I like the fan-theory that B2-EM0 is all messed up from trying to maintain Cassian's contradicting lies
Chopper: “It’s not a war crime if I win.”
Syndulla: “..you mean we?”
Chopper: “No, I said what I meant.”
" Close your heart to their suffering. Do not allow yourself to feel for them. They will not feel for you. ".
Super neato as always, Allen! Thank you! ❤
He was manufactured to be evil. They need to flip his evil switch to the good setting.
Like the episode where Chopper got hacked by the Empire. One of the ways he was "acting weird" was that he was strangely nice.
Dude, nobody is apologizing for the psychopath. If he wanted people to apologize for him, he'd have a courier tell us he does and then murder the courier. And we love him for it.
If Anakin was an Astromech.
A theory I like is that chopper has abandonment issues, he doesn’t want to discarded like he was by the republic who never bothered to find his downed Y-wing. That his actions are all done to gain affection or prevent others from gaining any sort of attention from Hera. Still a war criminal on earth though.
Chopper is a treasure and must be protected.
"evil and murderous." Don't forget vain, remember when C3P0 said he was the most sensible crew member of the Ghost, something that brought Chopper much delight
And also when Lando praised him too 😆
I guess playing the KotoR games I just became accustomed to murderous astromechs. I was just numb to Chopper thinking he was just telling Ezra to “Get Gud” while leaning into the SW disconnect of droids as sentient unless it is necessary to plot.
Thank God I'm not the only one who recognizes Chopper for the sociopath he is! I like the character, but there is no denying that he is psychotic!
I've been telling my dad as he watches the first half of the Rebels show how much of a menace Chopper is ahahahaha!!
Chopper has the highest body count on screen for a Droid character in SW. Probably tied for war crimes with Grevious
To borrow some fun dialog from "Firefly"

My favourite space terrorist astromech for sure 💯
I think chopper could take R2 in a fight as well 😎
ahsoka is coming out right now
I'll be disappointed if Chopper doesn't kill at least one person in the Ahsoka series.
My friend and I said it this way: R2 will fight you in a Wendy’s parking lot, but Chopper will make castanets out of your kneecaps.
As much as I do like chopper, it of course concerns me how many people absolutely love everything about chopper. Probably says a lot about their character. It’s like loving the character of joker, D-fens from falling down, those people who genuinely love Rick Sanchez, people who relate to duckman. One might end up questioning their morals a little bit.
While there are a lot of people who show a need for chaos and expect every hero to kill their villains at the first opportunity, some people also realize that even a character like Chopper can have their actions focused towards a common "good" cause. In most of the missions he's been used, the only real losses were from the enemy side. So if they manage him properly, he's only a threat to who they point him at. And his chaotic nature... well, some people would say what didn't Kill Ezra made him stronger. Dangerous? Yes, but they needed dangerous.
It feels liberating to express and release that inner joy for murder, chaos and a sense of "I don't give a fuck", specially since we're not harming anyone in real life. 😊
If Chopper actually existed, he'd be deactivated for the common good. Since he's a harmless fictional character, there's absolutely no real harm in enjoying his antics. It's merely escapism and not a reflection of anyone's psychological makeup.
You don’t understand the concept of war crimes and you justify things like a terrorist.
So then when people enjoy Imperials doing the same that’s just escapism? Sweet
Well, you're not gonna overthrow an evil Empire by challenging them to a game of golf.
Dave Filoni was (is?) the voice of Chopper and it’s basically his lines spoken through a filter so you can often tell what he’s saying.
Also he swears like a sailor
I absolutely love the amount of personality this gives to chopper
Anakin: I would absolutely take you on my team
I remember one of the creators of Rebels saying that if R2-D2 is a loyal dog than they made Chopper to be the cranky house cat. In a way the show creators unintentionally made the statement that cats are murderous sociopaths.
