I just want everyone to know that I returned the reel and that the DC controller was CONFIRMED FAULTY. My apologies for not responding to everyone's comments, but I will be sure to respond to every comment in all other NEW videos that I post! Thanks for watching!
User error bud. You might be mad at me for saying that. But I’m not saying your dumb bud, just that no one has taught you how to adjust it correctly. Tighten your spool tension all the way, then back it off 3 full rounds and it’ll never blow up again. Run 20 lb line and you will never see a blow up under any conditions. You need a 150 DC HG for what your doing man. Safe to 200 for 3-20 oz. Stuff. I’ve got 9 different manufacturers among 20 different casters. The curado is top 4 in my collection. And I’ve got Steez, Zillion, Antares DC, Metanium DC, then the Curado DC and it’s a peach of a reel. For 1/2 the price of some of the afore mentioned reels. I mean these are basically baitcasters for dummies. You’ll get it bud just get to know your spool tension knob a little better.
You got any advice for a good crappie rig as far as the Shimano line was looking at the 23 conquest haven’t used any of these ultra light rods and reels looking to get one happy with my larger Shimano 400 but would like to try the UL any suggestions on reel and rod pair mostly use just jigs and rooster tails for panfish thanks
@@liambtw2500if they are a similar price, Zillion 100%. Curado DC is a great reel but can be very inconsistent. Zillion is one of the most reliable reels of all time. Zillion is also miles better when it comes to using lighter baits or skipping, finesse, etc. Curado is good for bombing baits, but several of my buddies have had issues. Never heard of a complaint about a zillion.
Nope he sent it back and they confirmed it was defective. But this is just a baitcaster for people who can't cast baitcasters right anyway without backlashing.
After watching this, I’m 99% sure it’s your spool tension setting. That’s the one adjustment we never see you make in the video. Loosen up the spool tension knob. The spool should wiggle side to side to side. Now slowly tighten the spool tension, just to the point that the wiggle is eliminated. No further, no less. You’re done. With that said. If you don’t thumb the spool right before your bait hits the water, you’re gonna birds nest. The DC doesn’t do everything for you. I own a 3 Curado DC’s. Love them. They aren’t too heavy for me, but obviously are for you. I have your solution. Get a Curado MGL. Less expensive, smaller, lighter, and almost casts as far as a DC. Almost. Good luck. 👍🏽
@@migueltavares7884 if you set it right it shouldn’t be doing that🤦🏾♂️ I have two I probably have this problem 3 times a day which is better than a normal reel 😂
I agree with everything you have to say here. I love my Curado DCs. I recently bought the MGL and I love it as well. It is cheaper but casts like a dream. I loose about 10-15’ of casting distance on long casts with it compared to the DC.
Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could ruclips.net/user/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.
You still gotta use your thumb to feather the line. I never use brakes on any of my reels and don’t have problems and I fish my spool loose. But hopefully it works out for you
The DC is my favorite reel in my rod box! I'm 5'8" and 160 pounds. I've never been in gym and this reel does not fatigue me after a full day of fishing.
I use the curado dc and slx dc everyday. Ive played with all line types and diameters and the reel will handle anything you put on it. You have to realize that depending on the type of line you use you may run into issues. Most "hard" florocarbons will not cast as well or as far as mono or braid. You need to find the right line. That will work for your setup. I used 6lb mono and florocarbon on these reels and they will handle it flawlessly , alot of baitcaster problems are user error unfortunatley. Also you need to tighten your spool tensioner because most of your birds nests happend at the end of your cast. If you get a birdsnest in the beginning its your brakes and if its at the end its your tensioner. Hope this helps and tightlines!
Forgot to mention that you need to get away from the setting guidelines from shimano the brakes are only brakes they are not exactly general line specific "Rules" since all line companies can vary significantly. Its all about Tuneing your system to suit what your working with and if your working with stiff florocarbon on a stiff rod you need to be realistic and tune for what your working with. Also casting into the wind like you were is going to require more brakes and more tension just a fact of the bait caster life. Hope this helps too.
1.Your spool tension way too loose. Tighten spool tension, hiit the tumb bar and slowly loose the spool tension until the lure hit the water with no bird ness. Spool tension does not relate to distance. 2. Your whole equipment is not balance. The best lure weight for curado dc is 10g above if you want get distance due to the spool. If you use below 10g make sure use light rod. 3. Use balance equipment, starting from lure, line, rod & reel. Identify your equipments specifications. 4. Find the sweetspot lure weight for every rod, if not you can't perform casting, & you will not get distance & always had birdness
the spool tension for the curado should be just to the point where it doesnt wiggle. With enough practice on normal reels, you can turn the spool tension way down. I have almost free-spool on all my non-dc reels and rarley get a birds-nest
The spool tension should be only as tight as required to remove any lateral movement. If that's not the case, the reel will never be charged. Therefore it will not perform as advertised. Since you don't like the DC. I'd recommend you try the Diawa TWS SV. It's a standard reel that will throw light weights without backlash.
When they first came out I sent my Curado DC in for service because I thought it wasn't right - turns out it was user error, spool tension as others have responded. Since then it has been great, catching fish up to a 21 pound peacock. I now also have an Exscence DC SS and an Antares DC MD. Playing around with the Antares on a recent Colombia trip, it was crazy how switching lure weights it sensed the difference and cast further and further for five casts as it "learned" the new lure. At ICAST last month the new Curado 200 DC was my top gotta get it after walking through the whole show, have two on pre-order.
this may be because i’m a fan of the dc reels. however, i put my breaks on 2 and adjusted the tension knob to where the lure barely dropped and it works like an absolute dream
Completely agree. To each there own, by I tweak mine the same way, booklet says so it doesn't drop, but I do just as you do so it barely drops Just like my old green tank curados. Seems to work perfect for me. Plus I still thumb the spool occasionally just so I don't get in the habit of forgetting to do it with other non DC reels. 👍
that's too tight your loosing a lot of distance. i run my dc reels with spool tension just so it starts to effect the fall rate of lure, so it still falls fast but not full speed, like 80% of full drop speed. i run it like this for 1/4oz up to 3 oz lures. only reason to run as tight as you are is if your new to bait casting and are worried about missing the thumbing as lure hit the water. you go that tight if you don't want to use thumb at end of cast.
@@me2609-l2i thats too tight your loosing alot of distance. i run my dc reels with spool tension just so it starts to effect the fall rate of lure, so it still falls fast but not full speed, like 80% of full drop speed. i run it like this for 1/4oz up to 3 oz lures. only reason to run as tight as you are is if your new to bait casting and are worried about missing the thumbing as lure hit the water. you go that tight if you don't want to use thumb at end of cast.
@@longpointfishmaster how long do you cast, do you never cast into the wind, how could you possibly know where and how I fish? My way works perfectly for me and has for decades. You sound like a pompous prick. Not looking for any unsolucticed advice from a BS artist.
lol no i was just giving you a tip based on your answer to a comment. by your answer you indicated that you run spool tension tight that the lure barely drops which is like 20% of gravity fall rate which really kills your long distance. DC reels run great at 80-90% of gravity fall rate. unless you really don't want to thumb when lure hits water or your really new to bait casting and learning. logan said " i put my breaks on 2 and adjusted the tension knob to where the lure barely dropped " then you said "Completely agree. To each there own, by I tweak mine the same way, booklet says so it doesn't drop, but I do just as you do so it barely drops Just like my old green tank curados." so the book doesn't say to adjust spool tension that tight. it says to adjust to eliminate any side to side play on the spool for dc reels and tweak tension a bit from there as necessary. hope you have a great day
I set mine up similar to all baitcasters. I set the spool tension first then pick the number (usually 2 or 3) for braking. Adjust as needed (conditions, lure weight etc.) it’s kind of like buying a Tesla and thinking you won’t have to actually drive the car. You still will. The DC reels aren’t bullet proof but I have yet to have a birds nest anywhere close to my other reels. They are always minor at best. My advice is if your other reels are working for ya stick with those and don’t sweat it. Thanks for the video.
How did you know the reel was defective? Did you send it to shimano? I set mine up exactly the way the manual says: just tight enough so no side to side spool play, braid setting #2. I tried it out yesterday with no wind and was got 3-4 birds nest! I started at setting 2, then 3 and still got backlash. I use bait casting reels all the time and never get backlash, so I’m wondering what am I doing wrong?
is that the American version or JDM? I bought 200 curado DC and even after I set it correctly it kept backlashing after 3days of using it and the same thing I took it back & got my money back. I personally am sticking with the JDM version of DC reels. I have the scorpion 2017 DC JDM version and it works as intended.
I can only speak from my experience with the three digital reels from shimano that I have, the Corrado, scorpion, and the SLX. I tend to use slightly heavier line 15 to 20 pound and fiddle with the fine adjustment knob sticking out the side. Even though the instructions say, only tighten it to avoid some slop side to side in the spool, I found that tightening it slightly more, like you traditionally would do with the bait caster to allow the lure to gravity drop, makes all of the digital reels seem like fine music.
If I remember correctly, it recommends that you use 14lb flouro, 12lb mono, and while it says something else in the book, 30-40lb braid seems to work best in it. Seems like that should be tried, but if that doesn't work, and you have messed with the tensioning, I think you just got incredibly unlucky getting defective products.
4:52 ok now your just being a petty. You just say that you are 6ft 1 in 215lbs that works out and your wittle hand can't handle 1-1.5 oz difference in the reel weight is the funniest thing I've ever heard. You even said you don't see others having this problem yet you've had 2 different reels and still have that problem.. I hate to sound rude brother but that's 100% user error. It does take time to get the dc release cause the brake system ain't like your regular bc reel, they've made it to be the easiest to use for ppl who might not know how to use their thumb on a bc reel. But to each his own it's like a knife, it could be considered the best handle ergos ever but if it don't feel good in your hand we'll then obviously it's not the one for you. You obviously seem to comprehend how to use a bc reel so ain't no reason to have almost 300$ reel if you don't love it. Good luck bud
On Amazon, the Shimano Curado DC has a 4.8 out of 5 rating with over 1000 reviews which is really high. I think you are doing something wrong possibly your spool is adjusted wrong, or it is possible you have a faulty reel.
With every DC reel I’ve ever owned, every time I pick it up after not using it for a few days, it is like the drag is super loose even though the drag knob is tightened down. After a few casts it does start to tighten back up and after maybe 10-15 casts it is back to normal...and this is ok without adjusting any settings. Any thoughts?
@@sverreakker4924 yeah, I guess that makes sense. But I was under the impression that the chip only affected the breaks, and the spool tension and drag functioned just like they would on a normal reel. If this issue caused by the chip and is normal for all DC reels, why is it that nobody ever mentions this in reviews and I can’t find any info on the forums? It seems like a pretty significant issue and would be worth mentioning. Always on my first few casts, I’ll bomb a cast out there and crank like crazy and the line will barely retrieve into the spool…or not at all. Sometimes I have to wind the spool with my thumb while I’m reeling. This can’t be normal.
I'm used to bfs setup so this reel is kinda heavy for me. About the bird's nest I'm using 20lb braid haven't gotten any if you setup the tension knob right unless I'm throwing light lures and what I notice is that the reel doesn't really like throwing anything below 1/4 oz.
You do know you have adjustments on the inside of the real right? The numbers aren’t for the line you use it’s the settings in the reel that change depending on the line
Wow, I have 6 Curado DC reels and they all work perfectly. Every friend I have loves them too. Every person I have seen hate them did not realize you should never adjust the brake or they accidently got the brake setting off and did not know how to get it back to factory setting. Also, you still have to thumb the spool lightly. Do you want to sell them? Would hate to see them go in the garbage. I can even skip with the Curado DC.
@@loganswhites5817 you only use the 1 through 4 setting and never the brake knob on the right. DC brakes for you with chip. Factory sets the permanent brake setting. If you lose it, tighten brake until spool does not move left to right at all
Idk why nobody else has noticed but the knob you're turning for setting in to fluoro is actually the knob for lure weight, the line type setting is on the inside. Also use 15lbs fluoro instead of 12lbs
no its not. the slx and curado dc only have external adjustment which makes it the simplest dc brakes to use. IDC 4 brake system 1 to 4 1 no wind ultra bomb mode (basically no brakes) 2 braid and mono 3 floro 4 skipping or casting into the wind (most brakes) you are thinking of reels with IDC brakes like the higher end reels but is now in the new slx dc xt (JDM) and new curado dc 70 (JDM) or scorpion dc 2017 or 2021 (JDM) these have a line selection on the inside under cover plate then an external dial for braking strength.
this mistake is verry but verry simple to fix. change youre carbon line into braided line and problem solved. i dont why americans dont use braided line. because its smoother to throw on a dc reel. and another tip reels arent made for casting light weight lures. their made for trowing big baits
They are junk ! Shimano spinning reels they are turning to junk also like the Stradic and Vanford I won't ever buy another . Most use braid in US it's the most used next to mono , floro
I had to tighten the spool tension knob, for the weight of the lure I was using, to prevent backlash. Simply tightening the spool tension knob to eliminate side to side play, didn't work for me. The directions say to adjust just until there's no side to side play, but that doesn't work! At least not for me anyway. I don't know what all the hype is about this reel is cause it doesn't cast very far!
I have 4 dc reels and 2 of them are curodos I’ve never had a problem with any of them, spool tension and how tight you put the line on could be your problem, I use 17 on floral and 50 lb braid on them.
How do you like the coronavirus I've been looking at it yeah I heard that the Corrado DC leave something to be desired I have the original essence and you have the original etcence and the 17 scorpion and I love both of them but I also have several other shimanos that aren't dc that I love too
I have two curado dc never had a problem with them, I use braid on both of from, one for me jigs 30lb and the other for my punching 50lb never had any issues
Hey if you use the oil that came with the reel on the spool it will help stop the bait before it hits the water. Also your tension knob should be set so that when you wind it up and drop it, it falls at a slow rate and stops just before it hits the water
bought 5 never happened to any of em im thinking user error because 3 is never what i used for floro second of all re tune your real bro third i’ve had mine for 3 years now only problem that happened was when i dropped one of them completely to the bottom of the lake and then i had that problem
I run a Scorpion DC 50yards of 8lb flouro ontop of a braid backer, 1/8oz jig with a 2.8in paddletail loosen the spool till it knocks left to right, setting 2, no issues. SLX DC with 45yards 16lb flouro with a braid backer, 1/2oz lipless, loosen the spool untill it knocks left to right, setting 3, thing flys, but I do occasionally birds nest unintentionally sometimes I can pin it down to a bad cast or poor thumb control other times probably the reel. Technology should never be put before practice, practice, practice. I would recommend the SLX but the Scorpion is certainly easier to cast, more user friendly and more reliable/consistent.
I’m sure you already returned it but honestly it may be your tension knob. It kinda seemed like it may have been too loose. Also I find it interesting how loose your drag was because where I am in Florida if your drag isn’t maxed out you’re not pulling bass through the grass.
The dc system works with electromagnets, they wont activate if you dont hear the sound. Its just that the spool is so heavy, nothing wrong with the magnets on your start up.
My thoughts exactly with the curado dc. The reel is on the heavier and bigger size. It is an excellent reel for half ounce or heavier baits. Dc reels are not good for finesse applications. I terms of your fatigue, the rebellion is also a very tip heavy rod. The heaviness of the curado dc should balance it out well but the over combo can be quite heavy. My advice even though i am a shimano fan boy, the tatula sv is the better reel for the rebellion. That reel suits the daiwa air sensor reel seat better and is much lighter and can cast finesse baits.
Its probably user error. Spool tension is prob too loose, and the point of a dc is to prevent backlash not actually stop it. You still have to feather the reel.
Really similar to whats going on with my slx dc. Worked great for a month no backlashs but the i go to cast when id really go to bomb it out the breaks would almost completely shut off. Like nothing just free spin. Started working some time and not other. After messing around with it happens in settings 2 and sometimes in 4. Thing will be breaking really good then i wined up and throw it out instantly back lash 1/5 times like. Gonna return it and get a new one hopefully that one will do good. ( side note been using bait caster for years and know how to cast. Also i have touched my tenstion know and know how to properly adjust this real with what the manufacturer says. And even threw that out the window tried a bunch of different positions.
Jeez, turns out that there were some bad eggs in the production on some of the DC reels... Shimano has great service and will take care of you! Thanks for your input!
You must’ve got a couple bad ones bc I love mine. I was and for the most part have been a revo man bc the shimano I’ve owned just weren’t smooth. Fast forward years and I bought a Curado dc and a chronarch and I fell in love with my cdc. The cheap arch not so much but I hear so many people talk good about them that im feeling the same about it as you are about yours.
But we never saw how he adjusted the spool tension the first time. That could be his entire problem. Doesn’t matter what # setting he uses on the line selector.
look dc reels you still need to thumb it, just like any bait casters you need to thumb it but what the dc helps with is casting into the wind, light lures and mid- heavy thumbing i find my self just grazzing the spool when i cast vs laying my thumb on the reel like my max pro of my classic speed spool
The reel isnt the issue. Its making the adjustments so that you don’t birdnest, given the light bait that you’re using. And that’s not just on the Shimano. That is across the board on all bait casters. So to say that the Shimano, DC Corrado is junk is not true. Also note, the line type you use will help determine if you bird nest. Start off with 10 to 12 lb mono and fish with it. Move to flurocarbon within the same diameter. Then try braid. You will find the sweet spot with your Shimano baitcater. Be well be safe. Tight knots and lines
this is major user error. you need to correct the spool tension, father the spool, not cast so hard, and make sure you have the right setup. like the comments say, this is made to reduce backlash not eliminate it. of course it will backlash if you cast as hard as you can without feathering or a heavier lure. i suggest reading the handbook there is a reason this real is so expensive and popular, nobody would buy it if this happened to everyone. i personally paired mine with a 7'2 medium heavy fast action curado rod its made specifically for this reel. and my other is one a g loomis gcx 7'0 mh fast action. also the weight i dont see as a problem the best rated/reviewed reels are all pretty similar by a couple ounces, im a big and tall dude out of shape and this reel doesnt make me anymore tired than any my other rod and reel combos maybe try a lighter rod
have both an slx dc and a curado dc and all you have to do it tighten the spool tension knob till ur spool doesn’t shake from side to side when you move it
Is this a clickbait video? You bought local warranty set or export set? If warranty set you can go back to dealer to get it sorted out. But if you bought export set them good luck to you, there is no warranty what so ever from shipping damage
Man... It might "U"ser error. I don't justify my purchases, I know I didn't even pay the price that you all paid because I got the hook up at my local shop.. with that said I have a lot of different baitcasters and some are expenses and a lot of them are straight dirt cheap so don't get me wrong. Well the Corolla DC is not my favorite baitcaster, it is far from garbage. I've had it for a couple years and it will bird's nest, like all of them will.. but it's all down to the setup. I still have to dial mine in when I change lures. But I do that with all my baitcasters. If you're messing up, you just don't have it set up properly. The Colorado DC protects you against those errors that people have usually after a decent setup. It's not foolproof like we like to believe or demonstrate. So you need to check that tension out. That's what you have to do on every single baitcaster. Let that Lord drop and if it moves too fast and over spools when you let the Lord fall with gravity, you need to tighten it up a little bit
If it's nesting up towards the end of a cast it's your tension knob. If it's nesting at the beginning then it's your breaking setting. Although you are casting towards on coming wind too.
DC or non DC, before you cast, adjust your tension knob to balance with your lure weight.. logically, if u got a light lure, tighten a bit of your tension knob.. i got 3 kind of DC reels, never encounter this problems
big thing with dc reels when you bomb a cast if your not smooth with your cast and fallow through and snap the tip of the rod at the end of the cast, the dc doesnt always correct for that if running loose spool tension. i bomb my dc reels over 200ft daily as there is a spot i love to fish that you cant get to, but loaded with fish.
I got 2 faulty ones back to back. I have to drive all the way back to the store I picked it up from. I'm going to give them one more chance before I just return it all together and spend my money elsewhere
Sorry for all the post, but that's your spool tension 100%. I can demonstrate or let my wife cast my real and she does not know how to use her thumb for control. It will not overspend that's when you hear that break clicking in by itself electronically. But again all of mine is set with the full attention breeding good. You have to be a straight monster and super user to have your school tension backed off where you can better it with your thumb. Just set up that spool tension knob, and you will get it right
i use braid 15-40lb on curado dc and slx seem perfect to me coz never nest..thumb should always ready even it have Dc brake..with dc brake i can make a long cast more easier....'for me'.
Flourocarabon as a main line? That sounds kind of funny to me as a European. I never had such terrifying birds nests with the Shimano SLX DC and 8×8 braided line and I m a total beginner with baitcast reels. You either have a reel with production flaw here or it is because you use basically a super stiff plastic wire as main line. Shimano SLC DC at least seems oretty idiot-proof to me. If you want to fish stealthy, why not just use a flourocarbon tip in front of you bait? Isn t that what flouro is intended for?
I have a 2 Diawa Tatulas. It's half the price and I have 0 issues with them. Also someone else mentioned feathering the spool. Yeah, that would solve 99% of your issues. I didn't have that many problems with one of my cheap Okumas.
@@1lastcast349 lmao complaining about the weight of the curado and now your gonna buy a reel that’s double the price that weighs the same. Your too funny😂
@1lastcast you have to feather the spool just in case you don't know what feathering is there are plenty of vids on youtube, if you watch the video you are just throwing it and hoping it casts youre welcome
Hmmm, guess you already found out by all the good comments… getting 2 ”monday samples” from SHIMANO is a probability less than 1%. Honest review but lack of self criticism😜
You do realize that these reels are designed to reduce not eliminate spool over run right. If you aren’t thumbing your reel slightly on a cast then you aren’t utilizing it to the fullest effect. If your reel isn’t on a tension setting where it knocks side to side slightly then you’re yet again wasting the reel’s potential. Just go buy a chronarch mgl if you don’t like DCs.

Since the dc was faulty how about a follow up video? I’d like to see if your issues were fixed
Thanks
Maybe learn how to use a baitcaster before you call a reel garbage 🤷♂️
maybe learn how to spell before you criticize someone
@@ChrisReynolds614 something called accidentally spelling something wrong bud i get it your mad you probably use lews reels🤣🤣🤣
Be nice. It was defective…
@Gdgnome8806🤣
And 1lastcast, did you tighten up the spool tension??
95%+ line capacity required to function properly. You look like about 80% but it is hard to tell
Thanks for the advice!
Tbh I think it’s user error make sure your spools tensioner is not to loose and tight.
the spool tension for the curado should be just to the point where it doesnt wiggle.
Thanks for the advice! I’ll check it out!
To each there own, by I tweak mine the same way, booklet says so it doesn't drop, but I do just as you do so it barely drops
Just like my old green tank curados. Seems to work perfect for me. Plus I still thumb the spool occasionally just so I don't get in the habit of forgetting to do it with other non DC reels. 👍
that's too tight your loosing a lot of distance.
i run my dc reels with spool tension just so it starts to effect the fall rate of lure, so it still falls fast but not full speed, like 80% of full drop speed.
i run it like this for 1/4oz up to 3 oz lures.
only reason to run as tight as you are is if your new to bait casting and are worried about missing the thumbing as lure hit the water.
you go that tight if you don't want to use thumb at end of cast.

lol
no i was just giving you a tip based on your answer to a comment.
by your answer you indicated that you run spool tension tight that the lure barely drops which is like 20% of gravity fall rate which really kills your long distance. DC reels run great at 80-90% of gravity fall rate. unless you really don't want to thumb when lure hits water or your really new to bait casting and learning.

then you said
"Completely agree. To each there own, by I tweak mine the same way, booklet says so it doesn't drop, but I do just as you do so it barely drops
Just like my old green tank curados."
so the book doesn't say to adjust spool tension that tight.
it says to adjust to eliminate any side to side play on the spool for dc reels and tweak tension a bit from there as necessary.
hope you have a great day
I set mine up similar to all baitcasters.
Exactly dead on man.
Tighten up your tension knob to start. The settings go up in braking starting at 1. Setting 4 is for skipping with the most braking.
is that the American version or JDM? I bought 200 curado DC and even after I set it correctly it kept backlashing after 3days of using it and the same thing I took it back & got my money back. I personally am sticking with the JDM version of DC reels. I have the scorpion 2017 DC JDM version and it works as intended.
I only buy JDM reels now. The USD reels are not built the same! Good for you learning quick
Shimano JDM?
I can only speak from my experience with the three digital reels from shimano that I have, the Corrado, scorpion, and the SLX. I tend to use slightly heavier line 15 to 20 pound and fiddle with the fine adjustment knob sticking out the side. Even though the instructions say, only tighten it to avoid some slop side to side in the spool, I found that tightening it slightly more, like you traditionally would do with the bait caster to allow the lure to gravity drop, makes all of the digital reels seem like fine music.
Which do u prefer? The curado dc or the Scorpio dc?
If I remember correctly, it recommends that you use 14lb flouro, 12lb mono, and while it says something else in the book, 30-40lb braid seems to work best in it. Seems like that should be tried, but if that doesn't work, and you have messed with the tensioning, I think you just got incredibly unlucky getting defective products.
Definitely a possibility! Thanks
How was customer service when you returned it, did you have to go through shimano or the store you got it from?
Had mine for over 2 years. Use it in the salt every weekend. Never had any issues with mine. Love it.
what kind of line do you use?
@@DX6860 I use 30lb power pro with a 12lb flouro leader for spotted bay bass and halibuts
That's my favorite reel in my arsenal. You still use your thumb to keep the spool from going buck wild. What reel do you prefer?
2 is for Mono and Braid. Seems to work better on 2. Did you ever try different line, or did you just use the same thing? Genuinely curious.
From the waves of the video it look like your throwing it against the wind? Any baitcaster will backlash that way
I’ve had mine for about 2 years and I only have issues if I try and cast a million yards.
Same story here!
Maybe u need to set it to level 4.
On Amazon, the Shimano Curado DC has a 4.8 out of 5 rating with over 1000 reviews which is really high. I think you are doing something wrong possibly your spool is adjusted wrong, or it is possible you have a faulty reel.
Thanks for the video and the update. I'll watch mine to see if it has similar issues.
u gotta also feather it with you thumb to have the perfect cast. baitcasters arent meant to just be casted and let the spool spin without control
Any thoughts?
thats cuz the chip in it loses power and needs to be recharged
I heard they work the best with a full spool of line
You do know you have adjustments on the inside of the real right? The numbers aren’t for the line you use it’s the settings in the reel that change depending on the line
Need to see the setup, did you tighten the spool before you tried casting, like the instructions say?
Did the spool tension knob get moved sometime on accident maybe?
Wow, I have 6 Curado DC reels and they all work perfectly. Every friend I have loves them too. Every person I have seen hate them did not realize you should never adjust the brake or they accidently got the brake setting off and did not know how to get it back to factory setting. Also, you still have to thumb the spool lightly. Do you want to sell them? Would hate to see them go in the garbage. I can even skip with the Curado DC.
I just got my curado and I’m confused what you mean by factory setting
@@loganswhites5817 you only use the 1 through 4 setting and never the brake knob on the right. DC brakes for you with chip. Factory sets the permanent brake setting. If you lose it, tighten brake until spool does not move left to right at all
Idk why nobody else has noticed but the knob you're turning for setting in to fluoro is actually the knob for lure weight, the line type setting is on the inside. Also use 15lbs fluoro instead of 12lbs
no its not.
the slx and curado dc only have external adjustment which makes it the simplest dc brakes to use. IDC 4 brake system 1 to 4
1 no wind ultra bomb mode (basically no brakes)
2 braid and mono
3 floro
4 skipping or casting into the wind (most brakes)
you are thinking of reels with IDC brakes like the higher end reels but is now in the new slx dc xt (JDM)
and new curado dc 70 (JDM)
or scorpion dc 2017 or 2021 (JDM)
these have a line selection on the inside under cover plate
then an external dial for braking strength.
I have 17 scorpion dc i love it what is ur spool tensioner?
You don't have the spool tension set right
this mistake is verry but verry simple to fix. change youre carbon line into braided line and problem solved. i dont why americans dont use braided line. because its smoother to throw on a dc reel. and another tip reels arent made for casting light weight lures. their made for trowing big baits
I bave a corado DC. I use 20lb braided line and had the same issue. On setting 2 and 3
Ya total junk ! Corporate greed !
They are junk ! Shimano spinning reels they are turning to junk also like the Stradic and Vanford I won't ever buy another . Most use braid in US it's the most used next to mono , floro
This comment makes me hurt
You change line type on the inside
Do you have any vids of you casting a non DC reel?
I'll post some stuff this week. But, I do want to confirm that it has been confirm that the reels were faulty.
This seems like major user error..
You still have to condition your line and dial it in with your tensioner. You can also experiment with other settings too.
I have 4 dc reels and 2 of them are curodos I’ve never had a problem with any of them, spool tension and how tight you put the line on could be your problem, I use 17 on floral and 50 lb braid on them.
you should try to adjust your tension toll to make it so when you release the line the lure barely falls it will help the reel not backlash.
you spool tension is bit on the loose side from the way your lure drops right away ..i have a dc and never had issues and i use it in saltwater only
How do you like the coronavirus I've been looking at it yeah I heard that the Corrado DC leave something to be desired I have the original essence and you have the original etcence and the 17 scorpion and I love both of them but I also have several other shimanos that aren't dc that I love too
I bought the Chronarch MGL and it’s my new favorite reel!
Bro u dont know how to settings your dc?
Thanks for the review, you just saved me some money. I have a Scorpion and Curado MGL 150 and see no need to buy the DC now
When people think you dont need to use any thumb at all because its dc?
Its probably user error. Spool tension is prob too loose, and the point of a dc is to prevent backlash not actually stop it. You still have to feather the reel.
Maybe you should try it on setting 3 but adjust the other lil non on the other saie might help a lil with that!!!
I think you should have more line in your spool
For those recommending adjusting the spool tension. The instructions are different for the DC. The old 10 o'clock drop test does not work.
Yes sir! Appreciate your comment. You are correct!
Fill the spool per the instructions, they are designed to work with a completely filled spool.
🤔uh......Tension knob setting??????
have both an slx dc and a curado dc and all you have to do it tighten the spool tension knob till ur spool doesn’t shake from side to side when you move it
Is this a clickbait video? You bought local warranty set or export set? If warranty set you can go back to dealer to get it sorted out. But if you bought export set them good luck to you, there is no warranty what so ever from shipping damage
User error Ive had my Curado DC and initially i also had the same problem after some experimenting with tension and settings it works amazingly well.
I own the DC as well. It is your spool tension knob. The DC won't function if the spool tension knob is set wrong.
Respectfully you’re the first person I’ve ever heard complain about a shimano curado dc I’m pretty sure your issues are coming from user error
Sorry to hear you're having trouble with the reel. My 10 year old son loves his Curado DC. Just bought an Antares DC MD XG, we'll see how it holds up.
I definitely will be grabbing an Antares DC!
@@1lastcast349 lmao complaining about the weight of the curado and now your gonna buy a reel that’s double the price that weighs the same. Your too funny😂
@1lastcast you have to feather the spool just in case you don't know what feathering is there are plenty of vids on youtube, if you watch the video you are just throwing it and hoping it casts
youre welcome
It also looks like you need to tighten ur spool tension. That chatterbox was falling fast.
Actually no, the spool tension recommendations are also different for the DC. You only tighten it enough to remove lateral movement.
I switched this reel with Antares dc. Never looked back. Also braid is the way to go
if you have no side to side play with tension set in spool you should be fine but i think you still need to use your thumb if your really sending it
I’m old school I can’t stand dc reel’s I barely accept magnetic braking! The human thumb is capable of some impressive stuff if you train it
Hmmm, guess you already found out by all the good comments… getting 2 ”monday samples” from SHIMANO is a probability less than 1%. Honest review but lack of self criticism😜
Honestly I think there just for the cool noise but you still gotta feather it a little.
Just go buy a chronarch mgl if you don’t like DCs.
skill issue???
The setting for flouting is under the side plate your setting on 3 is just your brakes brother!! Your giving up on a great reel for user error
Also just like any motor it needs to be slightly broken in before consistency really forms
for curado dc its not okey tu use nylon fishing line. use braided line 0.20-0.28mm its more better than nylon line
I think your tension is too low for that bait. Even the stiffness of tge line matters!
Literally 1 last cast for that DC lol
