I think probably one of the ways to make use of the two years requirement torwards citizenship is to enroll on a 2 year spanish language course in Peru.
I am Canadian and have visited Peru. It is a diverse country (climate/culture/history/cuisine ;-). I would consider the rentista residency visa and have read -up on it. Another benefit to the rentista residency visa is that you are not taxed on your income that is external to Peru. A disadvantage to the rentista visa is that you cannot work for a Peruvian company. You may do remote work as a digital nomad within Peru on a rentista visa for a foreign company and still comply. The food in Peru is amazing. Miraflores is the safest & best neighbourhood of Lima. San Isidro is great as well.
Is rentista visa also applicable to not yet retired tourists looking for temporary residency? I'm 35 with an active online job, no pension, aiming to get a residency.
Rentitsta visa requires a permanent guaranteed income. It does not care what age you are, but since you have no guaranteed permanent income, you won't qualify. You probably should look at their digital nomad residency visa. AFAIK the 2 year citizenship requirement doesn't care what kind of visa you had to legally live there for the 2 years before applying for citizenship.

This isn't accurate. The rentista visa you're talking about (>$1K/mo of passive income transferred to the country) doesn't lead to citizenship.
