According to NPR, some servicemen with a bluegrass band played for the local population after US occupied Japan, I hope music should be used more often instead of weapons of war to unite and disolve borders, I can also say the same for the Red Army Choir singing the US National Anthem, glorious to behold.
I am honored that so many people have enjoyed this video. These guys are absolutely great. This video and all the songs from this session are so well known to me that they are a backdrop to many of our family memories. I was completely unaware that this was not well known to the rest of the world. I have several more songs from this session and will post them as soon as my computer is fixed and working again.
James Dean Youngs : When I was in Japan with the navy. I remember going to a lot of bars. Where they play country and western and bluegrass music. And if I remember right they did pretty good job at it.
This song is very special to me n my family as my dear old uncles used to sing this together at our family gatherings. They have all gone now but this song especially always brings tears n sweet memories of the good old family times. I just love the way you sing it! God bless you, your families and your fantastic music, may you continue for many more years🙏🏼😘❤️
Heard this group on CKUA radio station, Edmonton, Alberta, on Thursday, December 18, 2014. Loved it! I am sharing it with my various relatives who will also appreciate this talented musicians!
I was listening to the same program in NPR! I started searching by the band name 'East Mountain Boys' but came up with nothing. The i just typed in Japanese Bluegrass. That was a good segment on NPR. I'm glad i caught that
What a sweet arrangement of this old song- great playing and heartfelt singing. This was a song my late father used to sing to my mother back in the late 40's. Hi from Sydney Australia.
Thanks Rob, it got me listening to this once again. More poignant now as my mother passed away about the same time as I wrote the comment. One of my favourite tracks.
Wow...you guys nailed it! I've been a bluegrass fan and mandolin player for 30 years and your harmony on the duet was pure perfection! Come tour in the USA!
Loved it ! Especially the Mandolin My Daddy played and it was reminiscent of him. All of you were great but i don't get to hear many mandolins much anymore. Especially that sound like Dad..
The Japanese bands are fabulous and so accurate in all dimensions but I would expect that because 15years ago a Japanese band played the Wisconsin state fair ,and they were wonderful I couldn't believe what I was hearing now they are excellent everywhere.
These guys are VERY GOOD!! Incredible Song Selection! Incredible rendition of a song popularized by the original banjomedian, Uncle Dave Macon. They really bring it and they really mean it.
que des bravos premiere fois que je l entend de ce groupe c etais la chanson preffere de mon pere et ca ne date pas d hier aussi beau que webb pierce je vais l ecouter tres souvent j ai 69 ans encore bravo
the musical quality is excellent and when you listen to the singing with it's slightly oriental lilt, it somehow makes you think of a northern Mexican band playing great Blue Grass....
Mexicans don't play bluegrass... Blue grass comes from areas around the Appalchian mountains, which spans from Mississippi all the way north to New York...
A version second to NONE. It has been said that no one does mandolin tremolo with as much smoothness in the slurs as Grisman, or as much poignance in the emotion as McReynolds, but I think they've met their match. Shockingly beautiful lead, and surprisingly tight high tenor harmony, at moments reminiscent of Louvin brothers blend. Instrumental fills, fiddle "painting windows"...all perfect. Solid timing without even a tiny variation from the rhythm unit. Fantastic!
3 CHEERS TO Japanese Bluegrass music.
Just awesome from West Virginia, USA
From the Bluegrass hills of Virginia, you guys are great.
Just goes to prove, country's a state of mind and heart. It must come from the soul
Their high-lonesome harmonies are really good.
Beautiful harmonies
Wonderful traditional bluegrass. They got it nailed down!

That was a while ago. Did you hear any bluegrass over there then?
