Schools throw out a ton of food also. I am a janitor and I have retrieved Alot of things from the trash. They can fire you for even taking food they are going to throw away so you have to be covert about it.

I can't believe I was too embarrassed to do this when I was homeless, I could have fed EVERYONE! That food SHOULD be used, pickled, froze, dried, but USED. So happy to see your hauls! I was HOPING you canned! Raised in Lebanon, PA, I ate sweet smoked bologna every. single.day. in our lunches. Butter at first, than mustard.
I wasnt to embarrassed when I was homeless! I woukd jump right in the dang dumpsters whenever I was starving! Why they don’t put it out nicely for the homeless is sad

Our local ALDI does, which is why I never find anything, but, I'm glad they donate it.
I came upon an Aldi dumpster recently just like this. As I was loading the car an employee came out for her cigarette break and told me to be careful with all the dairy because when it was delivered, It was left out of refrigeration for several hours.
Knowing this, I carefully checked before using anything. Turns out, ALL WAS GOOD!!!! 😃
Think it was a liability issue for Aldi

Yeah however I just don't understand why fresh food cannot be donated to people who are hungry, makes no sense!!!! The word should be put out somehow through the grapevine when food will be dumped and tossed away so that the hungry can get some as well 🤦🏽♀️🙏🏽👍🏽

My guess would be something happened to the refrigeration system and because of strict health safety regulations they had to throw it out.
Exactly! The cost of all of those items is nothing compared to lawsuits or the threat of a closure.
Exactly. The Trader Joe by me had a power outage overnight that lasted for 6 hours. They pitched all the food. You have to do that. It can't get room temp and then go back to chilled without spoiling. And these 2 are nuts for taking food that's been sitting outside in a dumpster and god knows how long it's been out there.

It makes me wish that there was a dumpster diver’s hot line to let other divers that you know where there’s a huge haul like that. Even if the haul wouldn’t be that gigantic it would save a lot of good food from the land fill.

We have a FB group for local diving and share tips all the time. Really, sometimes there is only so much you can use. What’s the point of taking more than you can use or give away?

@@karenlincoln9237 years ago farmers would use restaurants leftovers to feed their hogs. People would get very sick after eating the pork so state and federal govt stepped in and restricted what businesses could do with their leftovers and spoilage.

I’m just in awe of the bounty. Maybe you should start a local diving network (phone tree, texting, etc.) so divers can alert other divers of excess items still up for rescue.

@@stefanmarchione6757 We are very lucky here where I am in Florida, our shelters accept food donations. Aldis in some areas do have shelters come for pick up of food items.

it would be cool if you guys joined a local group online to let other divers know about stuff like this! We've been doing it here in Australia (originally from CA) 🥰 this whole ordeal is insane. we're new to it but saved thousands already it's mind blowing
You have to wonder why they could not have contacted homeless charities or any food charities to come and get this stuff! Incredible.
I just said to my 10 yr old son, we shouldn't even shop at places that throw away stuff that could make so , so many people's lives better. Does any large retail store donate? 100% agree with you!
Actually she does donate a lot of stuff to shelters cause she doesn’t like her kids to have a lot of sugar and they only have so much space.
There are an incredible amount of laws and regulations concerning what is allowed. It is shocking!

I would have put the camera down and started packing the car like a madwoman. They always show the haul anyway. That said, it’s really heartbreaking that stores throw away so much good food. It should be illegal.

Almost all of that stuff freezes especially the moo tubes, the hot dogs, the Bob Evans mashed potatoes, the meats and pulled pork, the cheeses. How amazing I'm so happy for you.

it makes me so angry to see all this food being put in the dumpster there are people going to bed hungry and shops are dumping food why didn't they donate it even if the fridges had broken and that's why they got rid of the food they could have given it away on the understanding that you eat it at your own risk if it was cold it will be fine anyway

They don't even have to worry about someone suing them if any of it was accidentally bad. There is a law that has been in place since 1989, a "Good Samaritan" law which protects stores against law suits if they give the food away in good faith. They would rather get the tax write off for saying they had to throw it away. It is such a shame, especially now with so many people out of work and needing food.

Congrats on a great haul! I did my first dive yesterday and was thrilled to get 2 bags of apples, a huge papaya, some Dunkins iced coffee drinks and a bunch of vitamin waters. I think if I had rolled up on your dumpster I might have just been too stunned to move!

I was shocked at the amount in the dumpster but when you showed the amount just left outside behind the dumpster my chin actually hit the floor!!!
And the staff member coming out and filming them - my reaction would've been "what? You're tossing it anyway and its all still good! Are you saying its GOT to go to LANDFILL?"

Oh my that is the most food i have ever seen\ i would bet your right the cooler went down. I was in price chopper one day and they were dumping the entire meat cooler. I could of cried.. every piece of meat had to be thrown away they said they couldnt donate it in case someone got sick.. i would of been happy with one cartfull of steaks and burger.. would of fed us for a few months.. but nope all in the compactor.. . So glad for you and the neighbors and friends your sharing with!!

we used to get milk from stewarts when i ran the food pantry here in town.. one time somone who kept the milk way past its date (and yes it was still good when i gave it out ) had the nerve to call and complain thats all it took.. after that stewarts tossed out gallon after gallon of perfectly good milk.. such a shame
i will however give a thumbs up to our local stewarts who have donated milk cards for the pantries to give out.. but still what a waste because one person had to raise cane about it..

I work at Aldi. They must have had a cooler stop. Once it hits a certain temp they must throw out the food. And unfortunately they "cant" donate the food because if anyone would get sick it'd be all on them and they'd get sued. So that's better for u and other divers!!! The Federal Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act was passed in 1996. They can donate. They don't want to.

I can’t believe that the store would throw so much food away when there are so many people out there right now who are struggling to put food on the table for their families! There are so many places that this food could be donated to help others! It is sad!! It is good to see that someone will put could use to all of this food to feed their family in times like these!

That was so funny when he smelled the Minion cookie dough and then put it in his mouth and ate it and when he got in the wheelbarrow and tucked himself down into it even though he might tip over!
i found a ton of stuff like that before when I went ddiving to,the stores meat cases quit working and it was loaded with everything ,whoe ham,lunch meats tons .I filled up my freezer and floor freezer and my sons floor freezer and his upright freezer and still there was more.i had the back of my station wagon full and he had his truck bed full!
Maybe they had a power outage because of the weather

I worked at a gas station. We checked our refrigerator temp every 3 hours. Our walk in refrigerator went out. We gave away all the food.
OMG it's like Supermarket Sweep! That is insane! Think of how many families that could feed.

OMG that's a great Haul, good for you to share, we don't gave dumpster diving in The Netherlands, the Dumpsters are always behind close door en they take them out when they hear the trashtruck or in you're case foodtruck. Many people will be happy because of your funny selfs! xx
Why wouldn’t they call the local churches, food pantries, etc. Seeing all of that food being thrown away was devastating. It’s just Wrong! Can you donate it?
All stores do that unless they are ran by a local and they throw it in the garbage . I asked a manager before they said it's mandatory they can't keep anything or they loose their job.
I can only guess some or not many donate to places by agreement and i guess permission from corp to donate what they can so no liability so incase stuff not right the store cant get busted for any real bad stuff. all food has a shelf life but some still ok if stored right i read. and not taste bad or smell bad any or even looks ok can still use at time.

I'm sure they donate alot of it. Some shelters can't take it, but these all have way far expiration dates so I don't get why they could not call a shter or church right away. Wow!!!!!

I was once the Family Dollar when the refrigerator went down. They sold everything for 50 to 75% off. I called my sister in law and she stocked her freezer with ice cream and shrimp! I told a lady at the gas station and she hurried over to get stuff. This must happen often. There should be a contingency plan when that happens to reduce waste. I'm sure it happens at restaurants also.

After a few years you don’t check on any messages but I never get the answer from anybody anyways but it’s OK I just wanna let you know that I wanted to watch some frugal dumpster diving and so I went back and watch this over again. I’m still in amazement of everything that you had found that day even two years later
