I found this band almost a year ago by watching another reaction of this song and immediately bought the album afterward. It is one of the best albums I've ever purchased and it has some of the best intros I've ever heard. This is an awesome about to listen to while riding a motorcycle. It's just relaxing and energetic all at once. Epic!
Hello Ryan! I'm sorry I missed your live premier. One of my dogs lifted his leg on an electric fence. You know, that was a pretty good song & video. Vocals were okay but the guitars and that rhythmic drive is what really held my attention. I've been playing guitar for 38 years and these guys work those necks GREAT! Kai was all over the place on his drums. I love that. Such a cool reaction, Ryan. I'm gonna watch this again.
Thanks for this reaction))cheered me up a lot)) really love Wintersun!!)) reaction is great!) I told you you prefer higher screams to guttering growls)
Thank you for the first Queen reference in connection with this song that I have seen on RUclips! That is what I have always felt - this song feels like Bohemian Rhapsody. Just the feeling - not the music in itself.
Hell yeah, I knew you would like it. I would have 2 suggestions both are Finnish bands of course 😄😄 AMORPHIS- Amongst Stars (featuring: Anneke van Giersbergen) and Children of Bodom- platitudes and barren words, the official music videos are the way 2 go on these ones. There is a bit of growling in the first song and a bit more in the second one 😁😁
The instrumentation here is amazing and Kai is a freaking beast. Love this song although is a bit long. But as a Nightwish fan I am used to it 🤣. Still waiting for checking out After Forever and ReVamp with Floor.. My suggestions were After Forever - Sins of Idealism and ReVamp - Disdain both live versions.
Wintersun are amazing, I was very impressed with their latest album: The Forest Seasons. My personal favourite is Loneliness. And speaking of growls. I know I've requested this many times already, but I will continue shamelessly :p Dimmu Borgir - Gateways (FORCES OF THE NORTHERN NIGHT). I think anyone who has heard the singer, Shagrath, can verify that he has a uninque signature growl, it would be interesting to hear your take on it. And not to mention, black metal with full choir and orchestra is pure orgasm to your ears ^^ Septicflesh - Portrait of a Headless Man (if you want a video). Okay so, these guys are a bit more extreme, I would categorize them as atmospheric death symphonic metal. With that said, their orchestrations are quite experimental and unique, and combined with Seth's majestic 'story-telling' type of growls I think they stand out to other bands. Too bad though that their best songs are not the official videos. And of course, I can't recommend Ancient Bards - Impious Dystopia enough. I would call them 'fantasy metal. 'Fronted by a woman, all their albums are chapters of their own fantasy story.
Kai is quite busy on this one but he’s doing it well like always :). I’ve been playing guitar for 40 years but you see this kind guitar work you put your own guitar in closet and donn’t wanna talk about it ;). Seems to be quite common for english speakers that Jukka turns to Jakku and Tuomas turns to Toumas, don’t worry, keep on rockin’.
This song is so dense with instrumentation that it is definitely a grower. There is no way you can catch all the little intricacies on a first listen. It is in my permanent playlist now and I love it. Interestingly the version you get on Spotify and other streaming platforms is a terrible mix. They were having issues with the record label or something. I downloaded a remasterd version off their Bandcamp site. wintersun.bandcamp.com/album/time-i-15. A few dollars was worth the better fidelity plus these guys are working musicians and I will always support that. Cheers to the great reaction.
Great reaction, great song. They needed the no drums slow part in the middle so Kai could be hosed down to finish the second half. Missed this premiere, had to run out and get food for 2 grandkids because they wouldn't eat anything that could be delivered. Wife and I have 9 grandkids so I feel your pain Ryan. LOL
Kai was younger back then, he's older now (amazing statement) Kai makes tight drumming look so easy, he looks so gung ho or whatever the phrase is (help me out here) I didn't thing you'd go for the high screams in this song.. you are so unpredictable wow Remember I recommended you a song Ryan, I remember.. Just keep it in mind.. do you need me to repeat myself?
You really won’t like Loneliness I think. It’s too much, very harsh. For me too. Haha, but great reaction, good luck! Land of snow and sorrow by these guys might be another one you’d like. More clean vocals. Sonic Pump Rehearsal version as well :)
This seems like a perfect time to once more suggest the Italian power metal band Frozen Crown (I already suggested their song "Neverending" for great guitar work) as in their new album "Crowned in Frost" they also pay homage to Wintersun and "Sons of Winter....." in their song "Winterfall" with some male growling, but mostly female clean vocals. They have also been influenced by other Finnish bands like Nightwish and Sonata Arctica. P.S. If you once more dare to risk not liking the vocals, I just discovered this female fronted (lead vocals & rhythm guitar) melodic death metal band from France - "AEPHANEMER - Unstoppable (OFFICIAL VIDEO) [Melodic Death Metal 2016]". They even have a female bassist nowadays as well, although in this from 2016 the bassist is still a man.
Don't mind how you say the name's, many who complain writes the Finnish name's wrongly, so...;) and that is no big deal, how you say or write...now I think you should do Korpiklaani, I think you would love them. Songs like, Vodka or Tequila...a great Finnish folkheavy band, check them out 🍻
If you like this you will definitely like "Demons & Wizards", Hansi Kürsch from Blind Guardian is clean vocals. They released a remastered edition about a week ago and its a huge quality stepup from their original release. Hello Ryan! Love your reactions! Please try Nightwish - Erämaan viimeinen. It's the original version of 'Last of the wilds'. It's from the time between Tarja left and Anette when they had no official singer. This version was not published outside finnland where it peaked at number one in the charts!
First, the lead singer reminds me of Danny DeVito as the Penguin in Batman!!! I can clearly understand his growls even though I still don't like the vocals, except the "clean" ones in this song. Next, the musicianship of this band is amazing a real speed/power metal band that is a real BAND, they are very tight and it shows in the song. Can see why Kai (the new NW drummer) was brought in from this group. You have given a lot of European and North American bands a spin how about letting the ladies and kids from Japan dazzle you with some shredding: Asterism Rising Moon (ruclips.net/video/IfxMi0Bx4x0/видео.html) watch and listen to TEENS, especially Haruka the 15 y. o. guitarist blend Metal, Rock and Jazz (no vocals) Lovebites Shadowmaker (ruclips.net/video/xYdJHaqy_JM/видео.html) English vocals with bridesmaids in heels shredding power/speed metal. First all Japanese female band to appear at Wacken and Bloodstock (2018)!! The video is from the Bloodstock appearance. Band Maid Take Me Higher (ruclips.net/video/vFyYiPDZzdw/видео.html) all female band that is more Pop and Rock/Metal, but these ladies can play and if you like riffs try on the bass and guitar going at it here!! Now that Nightwish has less to review the coming J-Rock/Metal tsunami offers a chance to see the ladies thrash the Boys Metal Club and man they can PLAY!!!
I love this song so much. There is one more song from this sonic pump studios-session called "Land of snow and sorrow". It´s a bit slower so Kai doesn`t get murdered in that one. Check it out, then you have done the whole Time I album excluding the intro.
Hey Ryan, the first time I heard this one I wasn't so sure of the "growling" but that last part of the song won me over. Now it's one of my favorites. I haven't been paying attention to your request list, but is Sabaton on there? I just recently started listening to them. Their songs are mostly about historical events. If you get a chance, check them out (if you haven't already)
Funny sidenote: I've noticed that many fans of Nightwish are also fans of Wintersun (like me - they are both the greatest bands on earth for me, and the only two composers who can touch me very deep inside with their music). Somehow there seems to be a strange connection, far beyond the drummer Kai Hahto. ^^ So, Ann, give it some Time 2 evolve (...dear fellow Wintersun-fans - no pun intended.. ok, maybe it is... XD ) and you'll also be one of the Nightwish-fansthat love Wintersun. ...and wishes Jukka back so Kai can go back to where he belongs to. XD

I check everyday for a new Wintersun reaction vid. His growls are actually more of a shriek than a death growl. It's a black metal vocal technique.
