Tchaikovsky knew what he was doing. With Gremin he has given this minor character humanity and a beautiful aria to express it. His music makes me weep because he gets what's going on and accepts it. Truly touching piece of music. And sung beautifully by a hornbag helps

@@theslof1 I think Mr Ferreira just means that from Pushkin you just hear that Tatyana is married, but the husband does not have a personal presence or a name as in Tchaikovsky. (I believe that Tatyana is just being nice to Onegin, so he doesn't feel too bad. She MUST be in love with this Prince Gremin!)
