10:13 There's an in-universe reason for how this fisherman got a level 10 gyarados! Canonically, the experiments Team Rocket was doing at Lake of Rage were attempts to use radio waves or that big machine in Mahogany town in order to make pokemon evolve at levels earlier than usual. This fisherman has just caught a poor magickarp that's been experimented on!
@@greilthelegendaryhero252 i see the lance dragonites as them being his evolved dragonair from gen 1 but they nerfed the levels cause it would be over 100 otherwise.
you can actually catch level 10 gyarados in lake of rage as well while surfing. Edit they are min level 15 in gen 2 but in remakes u can catch lvl 10s.
Ooh, this one looks like it’ll be interesting to watch. Murkrow is one of those Pokémon that is actually kind of decent in Gen 2, unlike a certain Ice-Dark type...
@@et34t34fdf Actually, you're wrong. While neither pokemon are very good, Murkrow is loads better overall than Sneasel, at least in Gen 2. It actually has decent special attack and attack (85 apiece) to take advantage of its STAB moves, whereas Sneasel only has good physical attack and really shitty special attack. Both of Sneasel's STAB types are special attacks in Gen 2, making it considerably worse than Murkrow, and not just by a little either.
@@james_ford86 Its not considerably worse, that is just wrong. If Murkrow had crunch then it would be a good mixed attacker, but STAB faint attack of 85 base is okay for in-game, though fairly lame competitively. If we are talking in-game, both gets past the ghost trainers with their dark typing, so its not as big of a bonus as you think, murkrow just turns 2hks into ohks against Morty more often, while Sneasel will have to do another hit because its special attack is terrible, but seeing as Gengar basically cant touch dark types makes that a moot point anyway. Another point on the special side, murkrow doesnt really have anything beside faint attack to use its decent special attack for, icy wind and if you want, hidden power? Thats about it. Sneasel doesnt get good stab, but it does have better coverage in fighting and ground moves(mud slap doesnt count), so there is that, its also lightning quick, though murkrow is fast enough to rarely go last anyway. Neither can take a hit is my point, which is mainly why both are awful.
@@et34t34fdf Having STAB Moves that the Pokemon can actually make use of, even if it's only a few moves, compared to a Pokemon that lacks any decent STAB moves due to its stats being too low is a HUGE improvement. Sure, Sneasel is faster and hits slightly harder on the physical side, but it can't use that good physical attack stat for anything that gains STAB. This makes Murkrow a much better option, whether we're talking in-game or competitive, than Sneasel. No one is saying either Pokemon belongs in the upper tiers of competitive battling for Gen 2 as, like you said, both Pokemon are pretty frail, but that still doesn't change the fact that Murkrow is clearly superior to Sneasel in Gen 2. When you're talking about Pokemon as frail as these two, the stats necessary to achieve OHKO's instead of two-hit KOs is a HUGE difference and can win or lose you the battle. That's why Murkrow is better than Sneasel.
If there was something i wish could happen is that Falkner has a Murkrow on his first gym battle, it’s a good way to introduce a new typing early in the game. This and that he picked the Hoothoot line instead of the Pidgey line.
It's nice to see another Dark type bird in Gen 2. Murkrow faired much better than the Dark/Ice Pokemon that we both definitely know is a Bird and not a monkey.

I remember trying that too. I always wished they would let you re-battle gym leaders because then you could try out playthroughs with other Pokemon without reseting.
Seeing Ursaring in the early montage reminded me that I did a solo run of Crystal with it a while back, and it had an extremely easy go of things from what I remember. I think I ran it with a normal type move, two of the elemental punches, and Feint Attack as its move set for as much coverage as possible.
Wow, this was a really interesting run! Love how creative you got with the movesets. I also like seeing that your subscriber count is increasing! Given all that, still waiting for Slowbro vs Slowking. Request #5
Murkrow's battle sprite is adorable in Gen 2! 2:00 I was just about to ask where the stat sheet was. It's so neat to see you adding these as they become relevant (along with your moveset). 10:20 I think there's lore reason why a fellow so close to the Lake of Rage has low level Gyarados, remember that Team Rocket is sending out a radio wave that makes Pokemon evolve faster in the area. On the gyarados there is a small chance of finding immposibly leveled pokemon. For example in pokemon rby and lgfr you can find a level 8 or 9 pidgeoto in any grass between pallet and pewter.
the Pidgeotto is only in Yellow version and is a reference to the anime, since Ash captures a Pidgeotto in Viridian Forest so you can do so in the game too ^^

The number of X Pokémon will depend on the generation and HM Pokèmon needed to progress through the game and optimize your actual team. You can the alter the in-game EVs/IVs/Nature/etc to make variants of the same Pokémon for coverage. Murkrow was one of my favorite mons as a kid, so I'm very happy to see it get its shot in the spotlight. Also, your videos have inspired me to make tier list-style videos of my own, so thank you for making such great content.
Murkrow is a serious hero lol 😂 This one was awesome. Like psychic Pokémon In Gen 1, I think that Game Freak didn’t realize how broken Dark type would be in Gen 2. Nice job on explains everything again Scott, I tend to learn at least one new thing every time I watch your videos. Thanks. -Scott
skiploom is by far one of my favorite Pokémon, solely because I actually found a full (old) odds shiny hoppip by complete accident at one of the wild poke spots, and decided to use it on my team to catch Pokémon. Its when I got to learn just how powerful this little guys was, as it was amazing for putting shadow pokemon to sleep, as well as poison and leech seed Pokémon that I needed out of the way. Just remember, 75% is 100%, skiploom will always go first, and leech seed, poison powder, and giga drain is an amazing combination. Edit: forgot to add In Pokémon: Gale Of Darkness, which had a shiny chance of about 1 in 8000, to that crazy hoppip encounter. Even better, when you encounter it, it actually shows up as shiny in the overworld when you see it eating, which was very crazy for me.
At 15:01 When koga used double team/baton pass, you only had to use faint attack, that move ignores accuracy checks, just like swift. I also forgot those kind of things when i play xD. Cheers from Costa Rica!
Definitely a good video. The ending was unexpected. I watched this video immediately once I saw it. The only downside with these videos is waiting for a new one to be uploaded.
Having rest at all before red was a bad idea it seems. The only time it helped was when you had mud slap though. So for another run with a low def. Pokemon dont even try rest without accuracy or evasion altering moves with it.
Well done, Scott and Murmagpie. I had high hopes seein' that thumbnail. Also of note, Scott - worth guaging every now and then when and if grinding in the early-game has any long-term payoff. Perhaps the time you skipped grinding earlier may have affected the roadblocks down the line. It's not necessarily the case, but sometimes those extra early levels save a lot more time later, if your vs. Races are any indication
0:25 "grumpy little magpie". Ah yes, Murmagpie. I also love how Murmagpie has white spots in its feathers, like magpies tend to have. Can't stand those all-black crows. EDIT: Oh my god you even called it Murmagpie. I didn't even notice until 3 minutes into the video. You're the best. Love you, man. Keep rocking.
On the topic of having lower level than they evolve Pokémon: You can catch a legitimate level 10 dragonair in gold/silver/crystal in the route below blackthorn city by fishing with the super rod in the small pool in the mountains next to the berry tree with a 1% chance. In fact if it’s female you can trade it to the girl in blackthorn city for a level 10 Rhydon (G/S) or Dodrio (C). I managed to do it on my virtual console versions pretty quickly and just cloned the dragonair to keep both. Not to mention all the lower level evolutions available in kanto I.e. rock tunnel, etc.
I find it interesting tgat yanma, gligar, murkrow, sneasel and tangela all got evolutions later on - and all of them are pretty powerful. Incidentally, i also like all of them, despite being pretty picky when it comes to Pokémon. If you are up for a race in a later gen, it'd be rad to See a face between all their evolved forms.
I honestly love how each video is getting modified in small but very noticeable ways. Your content is growing so amazingly. I watch your videos over and over while I'm playing or falling asleep. I of course pay attention at least 2 times. I find your voice and delivery very confident and relaxing. Keep it up. While your videos aren't perfect the good way outweighs the bad and you are just digging your own groove and still growing and always getting better. Love your channel also which fossil did you get from the squister
Murkrow's evolution was fairly commonly used in competitive battles in later generations, but prior to that it was definitely forgotten. That ended up happening to a lot of gen 2, where they gave the Pokemon a new evolution to boost their profile. Excited to see them used in their forgotten gens though, Aipom seems like it will be fun
Honchkrow got banned from UU in its debut generation because it was pretty damn broken and uncounterable with stuff down there due to its high attacking stats, wide type coverage and high powered moves.
Love your videos man. Not sure what you have scheduled/planned but in the spirit of gen 2 let's see a vs. video of Umbreon vs. Espeon. The glass cannon against the best tank in Pokémon. Results may surprise us
10:13 I mean he could’ve just gotten that lvl 10 Gyrados while in vacation in Alola and found it during an S.O.S. Battle, geez not everyone is a hacker ( 😂 love your videos!!)
2:45 Nightmare actually has competitive use in Gen 2, even on Pokémon that don’t learn sleep moves, Starmie in particular. The Rest and Sleep Talk combo is so ubiquitous and powerful that many opposing Pokémon, the unbreakable and unwallable undisputed best Pokémon in the game Snorlax included, are often able to be hit by Nightmare. It’s not a ton of damage, but in the slower-paced Generation 2 metagame, every bit of reliable chip damage is helpful for forcing opponents into KO range.
For future reference, ice type is special, which is strong against most rock types, and it’s super effective against ground type, it might have one shot Rhydon in blue’s gym.
Faint attack was meant more for the competitive side of things against Psychics. Wow I didn't even know about the dream eater nightmare thing. My moveset for Hypno in gen 4 was those two moves, hypnosis and focus punch.
I remember catching a Murkrow back in the day. I thought it was cool but when I got a Houndoom and eventually Tyranitar, I even had a Umbreon (I had the official strategy guide by Nintendo about G/S but I didn't understand what I was reading and didn't know Eevee had day/night evolutions). The Yanma video should be good or bad. You're getting consistent at how EVIL the Kaiju known as Venomoth truly is.
Level 10 magikarp in lake of rage makes sense. Remember, team rocket is using radio waves to make Pokemon evolve. Always loved that touch to be honest.
If you end up back in Kanto again soon I'd love to see Critical Hits only (for major battles (Gyms, Elite 4, Rival and Named Rockets)) using Dugtrio and Persian since they are the fastest gen 1 pokemon that learn slash. The early game might be... will probably be hell but I feel like a gamblers run would be really cool to watch.
One of the major problems with a lot of these pokemon is you have to work too hard to get them. They are either super rare, on a route late in the game, possibly after you beat the elite four etc. All for a pokemon that you'd have to level up from nearly nothing to even use on your team.
I like these videos. The only dark pokemon I've ever liked was Bisharp. It took me 4 generations to get over the offended feeling I had when GSC added steel/dark types... Just in time to scowl at those new fangled fairy types.
Before i even start watching. I opened the youtube and forgot it was Sunday. Just seeing the video put a huge smile on my face! Super excited for murkrow! Btw you got your stantler evolution. Please address that 😂😂😂 i was so stoked seeing that. You manifested it into reality man!

conversely, what do you use to set up this interface? I'd love to use something similar.
I’ll be making videos about how I create my content in the very near future.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon That would be so nice to have. Can't wait!
"Theres no way he caught a level 10 gyarados without a gameshark"
Bro do you not know the plot?? 😂😂
Pretty sure the lowest level Gyarados you can catch is around lvl 15 in Lake of Rage
@@Medabee8 I looked it up. You're right. Damn 😂😂
Can't he just have used a Waterstone?
@@Nathan_Moor Not on a magickarp
@@Medabee8 For some weird reason, though, the wild Gyarados at Lake of Rage are level 10-20 in the Gen 4 remakes.
murkrow is underrated almost as much as your channel, you are doing a great job, keep going! :D
Love this series. Seriously in my top five RUclips Channels.
Murkrow is a serious hero lol 😂
This one was awesome. Like psychic Pokémon In Gen 1, I think that Game Freak didn’t realize how broken Dark type would be in Gen 2. Nice job on explains everything again Scott, I tend to learn at least one new thing every time I watch your videos. Thanks.
-Scott
I love Yanma, can’t wait for the video. It’s adorable, although you cant deny, it definitely needed Yanmega. Forretress is really cool too.
Murkrow and houndour were always favorites playing through and I always wanted them from the beginning
skiploom is by far one of my favorite Pokémon, solely because I actually found a full (old) odds shiny hoppip by complete accident at one of the wild poke spots, and decided to use it on my team to catch Pokémon.
Awesome videos as always and pretty funny how you mentioned forgotten Pokémon and then Stantler gets an evolution
I've really enjoyed watching the content just get better and better! You'll be doing full-time in no time.
Thanks so much Connor, glad you're enjoying the videos :)
Scott, I absolutely love your thoughts! Please keep sharing them!
Great video, always watch your poke challenges at Sunday before another week of work
Good job, little magpie
It's so great to see how much you've learned over the course of your videos :)
Thanks Jessica, it feels really great too. I’m still learning a lot though!
Dark is strong in gen2, especially being immune to psychic
Definitely a good video. The ending was unexpected. I watched this video immediately once I saw it. The only downside with these videos is waiting for a new one to be uploaded.
Been waiting all day for a chance to watch this one. Love this little magpie.
I love watching your videos during work
"I'm starting this fight at a nice level, so I'm hopeful of Murkrow's chances of getting lucky" lmaoooo
Ooo Scott throwing sand at Falkner, love it.
Loving this channel. Keep doing what you’re doing!
I’m loving these and need to go back through what I’ve watched on my PC to comment.
With testing different sets and consistency of the sets the challenges might get even more interesting
MY OTHER FAVORITE POKEMON!! You're two for two so far. Great job on the video
I'm excited for Aipom! Normal types are really good in gen 2 so I expect it to do well.
So, my favorite flying type finally gets the spotlight. I am so happy to see him be used. So, thank you.
You're welcome Shiny Misty
2:45 Nightmare actually has competitive use in Gen 2, even on Pokémon that don’t learn sleep moves, Starmie in particular. The Rest and Sleep Talk combo is so ubiquitous and powerful that many opposing Pokémon, the unbreakable and unwallable undisputed best Pokémon in the game Snorlax included, are often able to be hit by Nightmare. It’s not a ton of damage, but in the slower-paced Generation 2 metagame, every bit of reliable chip damage is helpful for forcing opponents into KO range.
RestTalk was also busted because if Sleep Talk proc'd Rest, it would heal you.
Finally my favourite pokemon. I've done this run and beat Red and honestly it doesn't disappoint
0:19: Ah yes, the very forgotten, and above all very gen 2, Fighting-Bug type :).
For future reference, ice type is special, which is strong against most rock types, and it’s super effective against ground type, it might have one shot Rhydon in blue’s gym.
It's strong against most Rock-types from the first two Gens _because_ they're either Ground-type or Aerodactyl. >:3
The bloopers are like half the reason to watch. Listening to all the goofs, very funny. See you next video, Scott.
If you end up back in Kanto again soon I'd love to see Critical Hits only (for major battles (Gyms, Elite 4, Rival and Named Rockets)) using Dugtrio and Persian since they are the fastest gen 1 pokemon that learn slash. The early game might be... will probably be hell but I feel like a gamblers run would be really cool to watch.
ooo yey another cool run, im currently doing a solo chikorita line run myself on crystal for fun because of your solo runs
Scott isn't just on my top 5 fave poketubers. He's on my top 5 fave youtubers overall
Awwww thanks Seann
Magpies are a type of crow, or rather "crow" can informally encompass many birds in the Corvidae family including magpies.
One of the major problems with a lot of these pokemon is you have to work too hard to get them. They are either super rare, on a route late in the game, possibly after you beat the elite four etc. All for a pokemon that you'd have to level up from nearly nothing to even use on your team.
murkrow and honchkrow is my favourite pokemon :D badass, underrated pokemon!
Yeah this video was already recorded when the evolution was announced! I’ll have to talk about it sometime soon!
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon yeah, that shitty pipe laying problem. Sounds rough when it's not PP related 😂😂😂 i was excited to share. I haven't checked the patreon since it was announced to see either. I'm slacking boss 😂😂😂
murkow (my favorite non-starter) came very similarly to how butterfree did for you, I couldn't for the life of me get past the eterna city gym, so I caught a murkrow and he's been my little emo bird ever since
That fisherman’s Gyarados actually makes canonical sense. Team Rocket’s weird broadcast was forcing Magikarp to evolve early.
Murkrow is one of those Gen 2 Pokemon that I like the voice of from the anime next to Apiom.
Planning on woching this on Tuesday or Wednesday nite after work as this is summer slam weekend but I'm stil looking forward two this video
Ohh I have special one..
When I was a child a friend of mine constantly claimed there is a place where you can catch a gyarados at lvl 15 in pokemon yellow
I didn't believe him cause I trained ma Karp from 5 to 20 just to have one big snak.....
well he was right, u can catch a lvl 15 gyarados in fuchsia city in yellow and showed me the place and I couldn't believe my own eyes.
Greetings from Germany! Nice vid man
Love the new ending analyzing the final battle more~
