  • Duane Jenkin was rejected four out of five times and paid for three professional passport photos before one was accepted.
He says two DIY attempts on a smart phone failed, but also a shot taken by Warehouse Stationery and another by a Life Pharmacy, before a third taken at another Life Pharmacy was successful.

We had to renew our childrens passports last month and had the photos taken at Life pharmacy. The first child's photo was rejected at the first stage (online) for 'shadows' under the eyes. There were no shadows. We took the photo again and this was accepted. The second child has his photo accepted by the first online check and we were told the passport would arrive within two weeks. Two weeks later I rang Internal Affairs (on hold for 45 minutes) to ask where the passport was as we were flying out the following week, only to be told the photo had failed the second check and we had to start again OR pay an additional few hundred to fast track. I did comment that that felt a lot like extortion. I also asked why I was not informed of the photo's failings a week prior. A few stressful days and several emails later (to which I got no timely responses) the passport arrived at 3.00pm the day before we flew out. Internal affairs has to be the most incompetent govt. department I have dealt with in recent memory. And to be told I had to pay hundreds of dollars extra to get the service they had already promised was worthy of a Simpsons episode.

Hello can you tell me how long between the rejection and acceptance of the first child’s photo?

Same as my son rejected 3 times it’s annoying 20$ a shot

Use to work at the passport office, the photo has to be pretty darn good. It’s used for face recognition.
Focus, shadow and image quality are important.
They then cut the photo out of the background so as long as it’s plain solid blue, white or light grey your fine.

When our photo taken by professional I get involved with sizing and everything. They get mad at me but I tell them that they reject easily. I don't want to wait for rejection. I recheck everything after they've taken our photos and I can hear them saying that I am so difficult, must be difficult wife too😂😂😂. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I totally 💯 know this happens. I’m now in the process of applying for 7! PASSPORTS!! I’m completely aware and preparing myself for “rejected” photos. My youngest is 17months!! How the heck do you get a young toddler to keep still!!! Crikey!!

I had the same issue, then they spelt my name wrong so had to return it and get another one, in short it took an extra month to get my passport, fortunately I didn’t need it urgently.

@@auroralights2759 exactly what was odd, was my name was correct in the emails, but wrong on the Passport.

hahaha I'm sorry but there is no way that second photo is a professional photo. It looks photoshopped because it is absolutely photoshopped. Look how dark his face is, the only lights reflecting are tiny lights on the ceiling - probably his kitchen lights, not a professional light. Then he cut out his face (and did a pretty shoddy job at it) and pasted it on a white background. This is pretty funny lol.
