I used to be a piano mover and I guarantee 100% that Bruno Mars piano has been emptied of all its interior mechanisms. There is no way to pull even the lightest upright piano by oneself. It might be obvious, but jsyk upright pianos are the hardest to move because they are the heaviest with so much crammed inside them (as opposed to a grand piano which has it's mechanisms much more spread out). They are deceptively heavy. I once moved an antique upright grand that weighed 1,500 lbs (or about 700 kilograms). Most pianos have tiny wheels called casters that are meant for moving from interior room to room, but definitely not the street or sidewalk. That is 100% unrealistic to have him pulling it no matter how it's balanced, even with a piano dolly. He'd have thrown out his back in 5 minutes. Edit: corrected my weight conversion (thank you for the person in the replies who pointed it out).
This doesn't really matter but a ton is actually 2000 lbs (U.S.--UK ton is a bit more iirc), so 1500 lbs would be .75 tons. Imperial measurements; gotta love 'em.

I was watching Adult Trainee (not really good to be honest, although the first story is funny) and a girl has a bass presentation, and it was crazy how I suddenly turn half TwoSet half Davie 504 in just a flip of second. For real, I was like SACRILEGIOUS and CHECK MATE all the time 😂
Fun Fact: Chris Harms, who directed the Lord of the Lost video, is not only the band's singer but also plays cello. Also, they asked for people to donate their cheap/broken instruments to them for the video. And no living instrument was harmed in the making of the video.
As a flautist, I have a few comments about the flute song video: In the crowd, there's piccolos along with flutes, as well as a mixing of head/body/foot joint combinations to make a flute-like thing. There's also come other metal flutes which look non-classical, but it's hard to tell from the video. The biggest reason why at 11:48 the flautist looks so wrong is that you are supposed to hold a flute with your left hand on top, holding out on your right side. Otherwise you can't physically reach all the keys. The things that throws me off is that the keys seem to be in the right places (pointing outward in front instead of behind) relative to her hands, which makes me think they mirrored the footage in editing. Also, just all around bad embrasures, hand placement, posture. I hope some other TwoSetters find this helpful.
Also, never mind the spit flying around, I was so anxious for the ‘flutes’ banging into eachother. I mean, a flute isn’t THAT sturdy and the tiniest dent can alter the sound and feel of the flute. Pls never show me that clip again.
Thank you, I am crying. My flutist heart is broken. The mirrored flute threw me off as well, but it is on the wrong side. The sound is too tiny for thus many flutes. We have an ensemble of six and have more volume/variety etc.
For the Lord of the Lost video, they specifically took defective/broken instruments to film with so that they wouldn't break good instruments. Still sacrilegious, but they knew not to "harm" good instruments.
About the Lady Gaga MV (the first one): the band "playing" music instruments is a satire and it looks so wrong on purpose x) In that MV (and that era of Lady Gaga's music) they actually tried to show the fakeness and performative perfection of pop music and pop culture in general. The Artpop album was all about "bringing art back to the pop music"
@dimasgirl2749 I mean, good point, but Gaga is a really smart performer with a good eye for symbolism, so that's something i'd expect from her, and Tommy Wiseau is... there
"Why do so many hip hop artists use flutes?" It's because it is really easy to sample. It gives a clear sound and changing between high notes to low doesn't change the "feel" of the note much, so all you need is for someone to blow a C4 into a mic and you can just pitch that up and down for all the other notes. Few other instruments have such consistent sound between notes, so it is really cheap, quick and easy to sample it.
No wonder Lindsey Stirling from the very beginning determined to edit her own videos because she found editors wouldn't sync her playing and the music properly, and sometimes they would use takes that she knew she messed up on, but they missed it. These are... Baaaaahhhhd. 😄
As a timpani player, I must say that the hit on the rim is the most sacrilegious thing in this video. Not only you're going to break your sticks or cause splinters that are going to damage the timpani head (200$ damage), but you're going to basically fuck up the timpani intonation big time and, worst of all, risking to break the nearly impossible to fix mechanism that ties the rim to a foot pedal, used to adjust the head tension (aka making the timpani just a big drum with an indistinct note, aka useless). A stick hit on the rim is basically the perfect recipee recipee for a 10000$ disaster. Also, the timbre is clearly not from a timpani and, even if it was, you'll need another timpani to make another note like 0.1 seconds later. Violin playing isn't the most sacrilegious thing in this whole compilation guys
I'm but only a strings player but something seemed terrible about them doing that to the timpani. Thanks for the explanation. Some percussion are built to be hit on the rim. Timpani isn't one of them.
I mean, it's the most popular music at the time in the respective cultures it comes from, so it is in a sense the epitome of culture, musically anyway. It demonstrates trends the general public has in not only music but in society too
Hi Eddie and Brett the last song is a South Indian one and the middle guy called MM Kreem can definitely play. Its the South Indian style of playing the violin. The even tune the Violin completely different to the western one. would love a review of u two reviewing South Indian/Carnatic violin playing. Loved the Episode as always and ya just wanted u guys to let u know that the middle guy definitely can play. :D
It's Keeravani actually. Amit Trivedi is another music composer in the video, so I'm guessing they're all music composers. Video Director apparently didn't know s**t though.
“The force is not evenly distributed” “Without tension, there’s no sound” “Weight support” I just like how Eddy would usually describe things in physics term 🤓
It's because understanding music requires understanding sound which is based around the principles of physics. For violinists, it's pretty common to use physics terms due to how you should understand the mechanical movements required to produce the desired sound for the piece you're playing.
actually in gaga's mv the musicians playing the instruments in a wrong way was displaying the meaning of the song! it meant to show just how futile and fake today's music industry is.
I can't tell whether or not you're joking, but I genuinely got curious whether or not that's true. As far as I am aware, there seems to be no confirmation from Lady Gaga as to whether or not calling out the industry was intentional. All I've seen so far was either theories claiming that's the case by fans or the fact that G. U. Y. is an acronym for Girl Under You. Though, I could very well be wrong here. So, if anyone has some interviews suggesting she often puts similar messages intentionally or any direct confirmation that those fan theories were correct, then feel free to let me know! :)
@@MathNerd1729 I think it's a plausible theory -- It was either a conscious decision, or it's just trolling. Whatever you think of her music or style, she is a conservatory-educated and skilled pianist, and a perfectionist when it comes to details in videos and performances. So I do not think it's laziness, or ignorance about instruments.
@@odw32 Thanks for letting me know your thoughts! I genuinely didn't really pay any attention to pop music until rather recently since I was too busy focusing on my own interests like math. So, it's nice hearing the thoughts of someone more knowledgeable on the subject! :)
@@odw32 this may be true, but how her music video is directed and edited is done by a third party. There’s only so much she can do when she’s focused on her choreography and lyrics and all of that.
@@MathNerd1729 I think it’s true b/c those women are reality tv stars and it’s part of a larger short film that shows how money hungry music executives are. So money hungry that they would resurrect ppl like Michael Jackson to keep making money. She also did a lot of interviews during the art pop era about how shitty and superficial the music industry is
6:06 Indian violin posture is actually different that western posture; they play sitting on the floor with the scroll of the violin tilted down to rest on the leg, and obviously there's no shoulder rest or chin rest. This music video appears to be going for western technique, but it might be good for you guys to know! The first time I saw a violin played that way I was pretty shocked.
Let us all take a moment of silence for Editor-san to recognize their sacrifice in watching that one video in order to censor it and spare us from being scarred for life. They deserve some sort of award or something for that.

@@arturoromero951 And it needs a logo! Like, you have the Sacreligous Bee, this one needs something. Trumpet player here 12:18 do not lick a trumpet it will make you regret what you just did, and there is also the fact that you are licking metal which is just.. WHY.
I really want to see them react to Carnatic/Hindustani Violin playing. As someone who's both indian classically trained and western classically trained, I realize there are a lot of things I think are normal but probably aren't. The south Indian songs are usually recorded by amazing artists and the actors always do a terrible job - the comments on the video were probably talking about the violin melody because it's super popular.
Also, seeing as to how prevalent music is in Indian culture I don't understand how people can get away with blatantly faking playing an instrument. Literally half the people I know can play some instrument; even if it is an instrument that's very Indian like the Veena, they'd still be able to spot the fake playing in a heartbeat.
Yeah, even tho I have no Indian classical training it looks to me like a couple of the things the actor is getting roasted for would be more ok in Indian technique?
I really miss this type of OG roasting video (I know it's not that OG, but really brings me back to the days when I first started to watch your videos lol) Luckily you guys didn't change much, but unfortunately, the pop industry didn't change much either lol
@@dumbledoresaidcalmly1499 I LOVE YOUR ID!! That scene is something that haunted me ever since I watched it lol Made me decide to stick to the books and give up watching all the movies.
15:03 shocked me so much, because the violin actually has eight fine tuners instead of four. On the other hand, there are violins in other cultures that have doubled strings (always two on top oth eath other), one is to be played on with the bow, the lower ones goes through the middle of the brigde. Could this be such an instrument? That would explain why the bridge looks so strange.
11:49 As a flautist, the finger MOVEMENTS are actually seemingly ok (they don't necessarily match the track though). The embouchure is also not terrible, but not good either. It's good enough to fool most non-musicians which is more effort than usual. HOWEVER, there are two huge problems: 1) The image is flipped, which tripped me the fuck out (but I understand if it's a copyright thing) 2) Her left (?) hand - the one closest to her face - is positioned about 2 keys further up the body than it should be. Ignoring the thumb, your left hand fingers should be as follows: (gap) - (C vent) Index - C (lever) (gap) - (Bb vent) Middle - A Ring - G Pinky - G# She's on: Index - (C vent) Middle - C (lever) Ring - (Bb vent) Pinky - A Basically, she's pressing 2 keys that should never be pressed manually on the flute. The motions she is making are fine I guess, but they're on the wrong keys. Also the mini flute things that the extras are waving around look like plastic/metal fifes.
If you’re interested, the footage they showed is exactly how the music video is. They didn’t flip it for copyright reasons. So, either, the editor flipped the footage for the music video as an artistic choice, or it was just wrong on set. Either way, it’s not good lol
As an Indian, that speaks Telugu (the language of the "violin song"), I know the video has 47 million views but that song was like, a cultural phenomenon. I swear to god, people were obsessed with it. 47 million is a serious underestimation. Even now, the whole "I'll teach you how to play the violin- but romantically" is easily one the top 5 common tropes in Tollywood/Bollywood. Brett and Eddy are my favorite RUclipsrs and it was an absolute joy to watch these two worlds collide. Will have so much fun sending this to my friends who are huge fans of this song. Also (Extensive plot ahead) The whole movie is centered around the two protagonists love for music. The male lead is your "Into punk" kinda guy who falls for the "Innocent girl who plays a classical instrument" and it's like a mystery movie. People die, people are killed, there's a love triangle, the mafia is involved, corruption, wayyy too many flashbacks, plot twists and SO. MANY. SONGS. All in all, cringe af, but it literally shook the state of not most of the country to the core.
Chris Harms actually plays cello. Lord of the Lost is a metal band, not pop (one of my fav) and they confirmed, that they did not destroy functional musical instruments during the shooting of the clip 😀 I think their Swan Songs albums may appeal to classical music enthusiasts as well 🤘🏻
I was really impressed with that clip. Its clearly very artistic from the music to the video. Thanks for the info, I'll check them out! I was certain that wasn't a lame video like the others lol. Maybe its the old metal head in me 🤷♂️
That MV with the trumpet hurt my trumpet player soul very much😭😭 like gimme those trumpets they don't deserve that even if they're cheap instruments. Just stop😭
The ones that aren’t flutes in 11:34 look like fifes. When I used to play the flute, they started us off with the fife to learn the basic finger positions
@@oxoelfoxo I’m not too sure. I’ve never played or heard the piccolo. They don’t sound that different from flutes, except you can’t play as many different notes.
Flutes are Loud but not enough unless you have more than two to carry the sound better in a band other wise it drowns out the sound if the quieter instruments you can hear the piccolos because they are small and high pitched so they cut through the loud brass instruments easily for solos a normal flute can’t cut out loud instruments so we need more than two flute so people can here the melody easily same with violin and viola too they are too quiet on their own so they have more violinist than brass because they are loud I know this because I been in both type of band to understand this.
As a flautist of 8 years I have a few things to say about the flute piece. That one woman had her lips way too far above the hole (the embouchure) when she was pretending to play. Blowing into a flute is like blowing air over the mouth of a glass bottle if your lips are in the wrong spot (either too low or too high) no sound will come out. Plus the hand she had lower on the flute was way too low. The last few keys on a flute aren't keys that you can press down, they actually lift up when you press keys that are higher up on the flute. Also those small flutes could be piccolos by their length, but if you look closely at them they appear to have what looks like mouth holes at both ends with no keys in the middle, it sort of looks like they just had two head pieces and held them together in the middle, but because the shots move so fast I can't be 100% sure. Throughout the various shots you can see multiple people holding the flutes with both hands facing the same way (in reality your top hand should have you fingers facing you and with your lower hand your fingers should be facing away from you) And at 10:45 one of the women on the far right looks like her second hand is holding up the flute by the very end of the instrument! And flutes don't have spit valves like brass instruments so after playing for a while spit just drips out of the end of the flute, which is why you clean the inside of a flute with a spit rag after playing. So yes, if they were actually playing for any amount of time then there would be a lot of spit flying around. Just thought I'd share this and I hope someone finds it informative.
You guys NEED to make a "Violin Song" But With Realistic Sound, dubbing over the vid with what that playing would actually sound like. I'd cry it'd be so funny PLEASE

Uhhhhhhhhhhh... 11:48 the image is mirrored and the only way I could tell was that the left hand thumb key is in the right place. However, her thumb is SO FAR AWAY FROM THE THUMB KEY. And her right hand is ON THE FOOT JOINT. Only your right pinky should be on the foot joint. The last 6 inches of the flute are controlled by your pinky keys. Also the left hand is just not even close...
13:56 As a percussionist, I can say that that is NOT how you hold timpani mallets. They are literally clutching the mallet. You should hold it with the index finger and the thumb, the latter being on the side of the mallet, and the three other fingers should rest on the mallet. When striking, you only use your arms if you want to play really loud. If not, you use your three fingers. Also, you never hit one timpani with two mallets. The only time you use two mallets at the same time is when you play two notes on two timpani at the same time. Plus, the timpani produced both a C and a D sound. Sadly, the timpani doesn't magically change pitch when you want it to. You have to use the pedal to tune the timpani or use more than one timpani, which is not the case here. You rarely use only one timpani in a piece/song. The number can range from 2 to as many as 17 (using tenor timpani), but usually for classical repertoire, it's from 2 to 4 or 5. Edit: Also you NEVER hit the timpani on the rim. That is sacrilegious because it affects the tuning system of the timpani. Edit 2: Small correction: Sometimes, you do have to use both hands on the same timpani to play extra loud. But that playing is still sacrilegious. Edit 3: I've just realized: What on Earth are those timpani mallets? Typically, you play timpani with felt mallets, cart-wheel mallets or wooden mallets. If the composer asks to, you might have to play with snare drum sticks, wire brushes, maracas or even cymbals (yes, I have seen that happen). However, these mallets look more like bass drum wooden mallets than anything else. Timpani mallet heads are never this big. Edit 4: That striking spot is also dodgy. The optimal beating spot for timpani is 2/3 of the way from the center to the edge of the head. Your mallets, on one timpani, are never that far apart from each other. Hope you enjoyed this roast :)
Just came back from the A One Ton Heart MV. Their credits said all violin-chan and cello-san used in the MV were donated, and they were all already broken/unplayable; after filming they were given appropriate rituals too.

In the crowd, there's piccolos along with flutes, as well as a mixing of head/body/foot joint combinations to make a flute-like thing.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the timbre also does not sound like a flute - more like a recorder
Also, never mind the spit flying around, I was so anxious for the ‘flutes’ banging into eachother. I mean, a flute isn’t THAT sturdy and the tiniest dent can alter the sound and feel of the flute. Pls never show me that clip again.

Not to mention you could clearly see some of them helt their flutes too far from their faces to be able to play them. Like, 2in/5cm away.
Oh my god, thank you.
Yeah, and Tommy Wisseau claimed that "The Room" was meant to be a comedy.
@dimasgirl2749 I mean, good point, but Gaga is a really smart performer with a good eye for symbolism, so that's something i'd expect from her, and Tommy Wiseau is... there
"Why do so many hip hop artists use flutes?"
It's because it is really easy to sample.
Lindsey Stirling is a Queen and we Stan ❤️

I missed the timpani sacrilege. Which video had it?
@@oxoelfoxo ooops, I forgot to reference it in my comment. At 13:57
Thanks for the explanation! I'm not a classically trained musician, but the moment I saw that I was wondering.
I'm but only a strings player but something seemed terrible about them doing that to the timpani. Thanks for the explanation. Some percussion are built to be hit on the rim. Timpani isn't one of them.
I didn't notice this either. Seems like any instrument in these videos is massacred one way or another. Sacrilegious...

6:06 Indian violin posture is actually different that western posture; they play sitting on the floor with the scroll of the violin tilted down to rest on the leg, and obviously there's no shoulder rest or chin rest.
True
I think someone dude put their (carnatic) violin playing up on lingling40hours and twoset did react to it but I'm not sure.

I was waiting for them to notice the banks of fine tuners.
I noticed that too!!! Weird.
Nope, this is def faked

11:49 As a flautist, the finger MOVEMENTS are actually seemingly ok (they don't necessarily match the track though). The embouchure is also not terrible, but not good either. It's good enough to fool most non-musicians which is more effort than usual.
HOWEVER, there are two huge problems:
1) The image is flipped, which tripped me the fuck out (but I understand if it's a copyright thing)
2) Her left (?) hand - the one closest to her face - is positioned about 2 keys further up the body than it should be. Ignoring the thumb, your left hand fingers should be as follows:
(gap) - (C vent)
Index - C (lever)
(gap) - (Bb vent)
Middle - A
Ring - G
Pinky - G#
She's on:
Index - (C vent)
Middle - C (lever)
Ring - (Bb vent)
Pinky - A
Basically, she's pressing 2 keys that should never be pressed manually on the flute.

Also (Extensive plot ahead)
The whole movie is centered around the two protagonists love for music.

@@oxoelfoxo I’m not too sure. I’ve never played or heard the piccolo. They don’t sound that different from flutes, except you can’t play as many different notes.
The more you know 🌈
Flutes are Loud but not enough unless you have more than two to carry the sound better in a band other wise it drowns out the sound if the quieter instruments you can hear the piccolos because they are small and high pitched so they cut through the loud brass instruments easily for solos a normal flute can’t cut out loud instruments so we need more than two flute so people can here the melody easily same with violin and viola too they are too quiet on their own so they have more violinist than brass because they are loud I know this because I been in both type of band to understand this.
Indian pianist here. Have been watching twoset for 2 yrs and I feel the need to apologise on behalf of the bluffing actors who fake the whole thing.
As a flute player all I feel is pain from that MV.
THERE IS NO REASON YOU SHOULD SHAKE A FLUTE THAT VIOLENTLY 😭
That’s a lot of info
A few things ay?
