    Why would you use SBR with lime. SBR has latex and will stop the wall from breathing. With lime you just wet the wall just prior to applying the lime.

      The wall still has a great suction rate, the sbr wasn't that strong it was just to slow the job down a bit.

    A masterclass in lime motar plastering. That job looks spot on well done Mike. If you were short of hair for the bond you and Tom could of shaved your pubes 😂😂

    Does SBR stop the wall from ‘breathing’?

      Good question, no it doesn't, it's just to slows the suction rate down,it's does the same as pva really but a better job, I would t have used pva on this wall, the first coats had to fully dry before preceding and dried good and strong.

      It is a long old process but sometimes you just have to do it. Couldn't risk using gypsum and it looking terrible again, thanks for commenting Doug.

    So was that a sand cement scratch coat and render followed by lime 1:2 plasterers sand and then lime finish

    Did you reinforce where cracks were in the plaster or is it cracks in the mortar once the old plasters been removed?

    that looks like cement and lime mortar to me that's not a true lime plaster

      I can assure there is no cement in this!
      How many different colours of sand have you ever seen?
