I think if I were to get one, I’d want a bicolor as well. That’s what I did with the 600. I figured they’d make a bicolor given what they did with the 300x so I waited for it. Glad I did.
@@blackpranther I think they're reaching the limits of how much power they can put inside a Bowens mount. Way too much heat generated that needs active cooling. We'll see, I'm sure they're working on it as we speak.
@@makatron I agree, but I also thought that the 600w COB would never happen just a year or two ago. The bi-color would definitely be less output but if it’s anything close to the 1200d it’d be a real game-changer.
How long does the LED last? and how does the light output/color change over time? when the LED finally goes, is there a way to replace that part of the light, or does one need to throw away the whole light and buy another, instead of replacing a bulb like on a traditional HMI. LEDs last a long time, but eventually they fail. and color shift. Does Aperture have any data on these things?
This was a super helpful review. We film with Red/Phantom cameras and film a lot of wildlife, but of late have started to film a bit more inside were we built sets, both interviews and say butterflies. So great with all this lighting information. Will check out the master class. I was also really impressed with your background with the bokeh lights, looks beautiful!
the only "normal" way a HMI or Tungsten bulb explodes is if you get fingerprints or other contamination on the bulb. You can move them lit w/o issue since they don't have a filament. While larger 6K+ HMI's need longer warm up typical 400 / 575 / 800 / 1200's are up in a few min. HMI's used are dirt cheap these days because no one wants them anymore. I can't get rid of mine :( HMI's do pose UV risk though, and the only way to know is to have a UV meter to check them. Even if the filter glass is intact, it may not be doing its job. This is mainly a factor with double ended bulbs. With single ended bulbs which are basically a bulb inside a bulb there is little risk since the outer shell serves as UV filter which gets changed with the bulb.
I want it! But I don’t need it… I just need to keep saying that to myself, lol. The 600x is plenty (he says trying to convince himself). Great video as usual.
@@CrimsonengineThank you. Aputure tubes? How many watts? I am using Bunnings tubes at the moment and I have difficulty getting the middle lit of a 1.8m wide white background
great video! but loudness of the video is kinda low, try loudness normalize to -14 db lufs it will be better, as you can check in stats for nerds you are at -7,1db that should mean you are actually at -19,1db lufs

put it on their dedicated fresnel unit and it should be fine. I feel it is more suited for the 1200 than my current 600. with fresnel and 1200, real sunlight, almost
My first thought was this was going to extremely expensive like a standard HMI. I was surprised by the price. Thanks for sharing.
Me too. I was thinking 5k at least but it's affordable, especially to rent.
I can't wait for a bi-color version...chills. What an exciting time to be a creator!

Is going to be a lot harder to squeeze both colours into that chip but Aperture is sure doing great stuff.

Can you please do a video on how co directors work together
It also has one sixth of the 3:38 blank lol.
The difference is huge with this light tho. Good video
1200d draws 1440w vs ARRI m18 draws 1835w. Not a huge difference
Have you tried running them off solar generators like those from Bluetti or Ecoflow?

I need to say that to myself in the mirror everyday 🤣
What would you recommend to light a green screen? 5m x 5m x 5m
I'd use tubes or multiple smaller units

I never knew about HDMI lights :P 1:45
You can power them from any HDMI port :)
Its an amazing light.
Oh man wow, hopefully get my hands on a 300d sometime soon. Working with Godoy sl60w and just not enough light. This in the other hand.. boom
300D is a workhorse that's for sure.
Another great vid, Rubidium. (Don’t know if you want to correct it or not, but there’s a slight editing flub around 3:35.)
it's live now, so It's there forever :)
There's a weird cut at around 3:36
too bad the links don't work for Canadian customers.
Does it get too hot for the light dome ii indoors?
Should be good. The fan keeps the heat away from the bowens mount.
@@Crimsonengine Thank you!
Very cool light. Interesting to see what we can do with it.
The sun isn't a million lux. 120,000 lux is about max for the Sun
True, for spot metered lux, but direct sun is a 100.000 lux over a virtually infinite area...
Lack of barn doors to control the light when used with an open face is going to make this light a major hassle
There are tons of modifiers you can add to the light. The fresnel attachment has barn doors. Unlikely you'd use this thing open with no modifier.

ooh editing gaff at 3:36
I leave those in on purpose. It's like a end credit sequence :)
Please tell them they desperately need to make a fresnel and spotlight attachment for this light.
it's just a bowens mount, right? Is there some reason Aputure's Fresnel 2X attachment wouldn't work with it?
@@Brandon4Weiss The heat from the COB would break the optics in the fresnel and may damage the fixture.
I think a long reflector attachment would work best in order to keep the heat from being trapped inside the fresnel lens.
