  • As part of the festivities, they did a reenactment of the most monumental event in the original celebration in 1946. The raising of the Philippine flag and lowering of the American flag. As you can see in the video, it did not go completely well as expected.
The mishap would be known as the "Star-Entangled Banner".
It ironically reflects the Philippines and the United States’ relations after independence.

Nowadays the Philippines needs America more than ever, as tensions between major powers are rising now.
Oh, and I think every news agency can use the '96 reenactment as file video to tell people about what happened in 1946.

At 0:07 and 0:22, the man on the leftmost part of the video is then-DND Secretary, General Renato "Rene" S. De Villa. He is the youngest son of Mercedes Salud-De Villa, the founder of Batangas Eastern Colleges (my alma mater from elem to SHS), and hails from San Juan, Batangas, which is my hometown.

My God Filipinos look so decent at that time with all their traditional clothings they used to wear... Seems like filipino nowadays doesn't wear them anymore

Something historically inaccurate with the US flag used in the reenactment. Should have been 48 stars instead of the 50.

Well, di na rin yun pupwede. Kasi ang states na talaga ng US at that time is 50, eh syempre kelangan gamitin ung 50 stars kasi yun din nmn ang batas sa kanila, baka magkaroon pa ng salitan.
