- product manager vs product owner’s differences in responsibilities, hierarchy, and salary.
You must have seen job openings for product owners and product managers. But you are pretty confused. Is a product owner the same as a product manager? Does the product manager has the same responsibilities as the product manager?
Recently a lot of my students got offers as both product owners and product manager.
So, I will compare these two roles in terms of hierarchy, responsibilities and salary differences.
Good luck with your PM or PO job offers!

Very clear video. I have been looking for this info for a few days, this is the most rubbish-free video one. Thank you!
As a PO I do most of what the PMs do I feel the role are more and more interchangeable, salary is pretty much the same here in Canada
Hi, May I know what is the PO salary in Canada and in Netherlands (if you know by any chance)
@@Abc20205 varies between 80,000 to 120,000 in Canada more or less
Great video!
I´m sorry but the background music is way too loud... sadly wasn´t able to focus on the content :/
Agreed the background is too loud and noisy. I could not focus and then had to leave.
Awesome video!ty
Thanks
Great video very helpful👍
Thanks!
The background music makes really really hard to understand what you are saying.
Sometimes there's a PM and PO for the same product. How would the sharing of the prioritization of the backlog work?
Hi Lana, PO will lead the prioritization of the backlog which is engineering-focused stories. PM can give high-level feature prioritization when work with PO to break it down to engineering-facing user stories. Does it help?
Ah I thought product owner was higher level than product manager. Thanks for clarifying!
Yep! I thought the same when I started my PM career 5 years ago.
You mentioned the Agile golden triangle (Scrum master, PO & Dev.). Is there no place for a Business Analyst on Agile teams ? Is PO going to be the one writing user stories etc. entirely if there is no BA ?
In the formal agile team, there is no BA and P.O. writes requirements. However a lot of BA already wrote requirements and can be considered as PM functions. That’s a perfect role to transition to PM.
Hi dr nancy, may i know the current rate of a entry level PO? hw much will be paid? and what are the skillset/certifiacte that needed to increase my value in this role? any recommendation on this?

Nice video. I have a question. I have been working as senior consultant in IT space. I have handled roles and responsibilities of business analyst, part time product owner. Now I have earned my PMP too. So which career path should I choose? Product owner or Product Manager? In India, it is very hard to find associate level product manager role. Please guide me! Thank you.
Go for product manager
My job title says Sr Product Manager but they call me product owner internally lol smh
