This was so weird to read. I haven't known many pugs, only a couple... but they were all little fur covered spazz balls that never stopped bossing everyone around.
These tegus are generally pretty intelligent and not usually prone to random, aggressive biting, especially if raised in captivity around people and other animals. I've heard of a few tegus that would non-aggressively bite randomly as juveniles but grew out of it. Whether it will bite or not might actually come down to how its fed. Still, their body language tends to give away if they may threatened or if they just feel like trying to bite (thinking there might be food or some other reason).

That is pretty unique to have a lizard as a pet , some lizards are really nice and you can pet them and let them sleep on you , its pretty cool
